“Guys, SC and I were planning of going on a cruise. What do you think?” DMS said after everyone has settled in the living area.
“What for?” MZ asked, while putting his arms around Aisha.
“Well, we’re thinking of starting our own family and we want to go on a second honeymoon,” SC said.
“Wow! Is that really you SC speaking? You managed to say that without blushing like a tomato!” XM said, laughing lightly.
“Hey don’t pick on SC. At least she and DMS are making a progress,” Lei said. SC gave him a thankful smile while giving XM a scornful look.
“Okay, okay! I was just joking. You don’t need to look at me like that SC!” XM defended himself, raising his hands before him. Everybody laughed.
“So why are you guys telling us this?” Aisha said. Her Mandarin skills have improved due to MZ tutoring. She and MZ are now dancing to the beat of the sound system.
“Hey you two, my house is not a disco ok? Don’t you two run out of energy? You two are always on your feet dancing whenever you hear music!” DMS said with an annoyed look.
“You’re just envious because you have two left feet!” MZ retorted.
“Did I ask for your opinion?” DMS snapped back.
Everyone laughed again at his small outburst. Before Ah Si’s temper worsens, SC answers Aisha’s question.
“We’re telling you guys this because we want all of you to go with us, like what we did during our days in Ying De.”
“Now that’s original! Going on a honeymoon with the rest of the gang?! We’re just going to be on your way.” XM commented.
“What’s wrong with that? The ship is big enough that we can practically not see one another during the trip. We don’t want to be in a big ship just the two of us you know. It’s going to be like staying in a ghost ship for 2 weeks.” DMS said.
“If you guys are ok with it, then Jing and I will come along. We could use some vacation,” Lei agreed.
“So Lei and Jing are in. How bout you two?” SC said, looking towards MZ and Aisha.
“Who? Us?” Aisha asked, pointing a finger to her chest. Then she asked MZ, “What do you think?”
“As long as we can play music and dance in the ship, there’s no problem with me,” MZ said, giving Aisha a meaningful look. Aisha stepped on his right foot and he came tumbling down from his dancing. Everybody was laughing so hard when MZ grabbed Aisha with him before he fell down on his bum that sent Aisha’s feet into the air. Good thing she had decided on wearing pants instead of a mini skirt that night.
As soon as everybody recovered from MZ and Aisha’s antics, Ximen was in the hot seat.
“Ei XM, you’re coming with us right?” MZ asked, still tangled on the floor with Aisha.
“The cruise would be for two weeks right? That’s a long time, I think I can’t leave the office for that long,” XM answered.
“Oh c’mon Er Long! You’re going to get old really fast if you stuck yourself up in your office.” Ah Si groaned.
“Don’t call me Er Long! I hate the sound of my name! Ok, I’ll tell dad to take over for me while I’m gone.” XM said irritably.
“Okay! So all we have to do now is call Ching Her and Xiao You and we’ll be complete!” SC excitedly said. She dialed Ching Her’s number and talked to him. Ching Her agreed to come and he’s going to take Mimi with him. Then SC dialed XY’s number.
She put the speaker phone on so everyone could hear her. It’s been a long time since they heard from her.
XY’s fone started to ring. Everyone was acting normal while waiting for XY to pick up. Or at least everyone was except for the one sitting beside the speaker phone. XM felt nervous and his hands were getting clammy. Then his heartbeat pumped faster when she finally picked up.
“Ciao! Ciò è parlare di Xiao You. Posso conoscere chi è prego nella linea? (Hello, this is Xiao You speaking. May I know who is in the line please?)” Xiao You said as she answered the phone.
Everyone was stunned. They didn’t understand anything that they heard. Then someone said…
“Signorina Xiao You di buona sera. Il vostro italiano suona buon. (Good evening Ms. XY. Your Italian sounds good).”
They looked at the direction of the voice. It was Lei who spoke. Everyone gave him a surprised look. Then XY answered, “Chi è questo?(Who is this?)”
But before Lei could answer, another voice came through, “Xiao You, è stato un molto tempo. Como siete?” (XY, it has been a long time. How are you?) It was Jing who spoke this time.
“Chi è questo?(Who is this?)” XY repeated.
“Ciò è parlare dei lei di Hua Ze. Altro quello vi siete sentiti che parlare è Jing,
(this is Hua Ze Lei speaking. The other one you heard speak is Jing.)” Lei answered.
“Lei! Lo avete spaventato! Ho pensato che fosse un altro visitatore di prank.” (Lei! You scared me! I thought it was another prank caller.)
“Così como siete? State godendo là in Italia?”(So how are you? Are you enjoying there in Italy?)
“Dove siete? siete qui in Italia?”(Where are you? are you here in Italy?)
“Jing ed io sono qui nel mansion di Dao Ming. Tutto è qui anche.” (Jing and I are here in the Dao Ming mansion. Everyone is here too.)
“Tutto è là? Ma perchè non stanno parlando?” (Everyone is there? But why are they not speaking?)
“Poiché non possono capire qualche cosa che stiamo dicendo!” (Because they cannot understand anything that we are saying!) Lei is now controlling himself so hard from laughing.
“Oh!i spiacente!”(Oh!i am sorry!)
“Parlate più meglio in mandarino oppure non li capiranno!” (You better speak in Mandarin or else they will not understand us!)
Lei and Jing were laughing at how everyone was looking. Everyone’s jaws had dropped and their brows were knitted together all the time he and XY were talking for they can’t understand a thing.
“Oh sì! sono ancora spiacente!” (oh yes! i am sorry again!)
“Ciao tutto! San Cai siete là? (Hello everyone! San Cai are you there?)” Realizing that she had spoken in Italian again for San Cai did not reply, XY groaned, “Argh! Dui bu chi! San Cai are you there?”
“Xiao You, is that really you?” San Cai said, with a wary expression as if she was talking to an alien from outer space.
“Yes its really me San Cai!” XY said excitedly.
“But what were you saying a while ago? You’re talking in a language I’ve never heard before. Do people there in Canada speak like that?” San Cai was still in a daze, her eyes almost popping out from their sockets.
“She is *laugh* not in *laugh* Canada SC, *laugh*” Lei managed to say in between laughing but then lost control. “She is in Italy *laugh* and she’s speaking Italian that’s why you can’t understand her!” Jing finished for Lei. Both are on the verge of falling from their seats because of too much laughing.
“ITALY? YOU’RE IN ITALY?! WHAT ARE YOU DOING THERE???!” SC screamed.
“SC, do you want me to become deaf?” XY said.
With that, everyone laughed except SC. “You still did not answer my question!”, SC fumed.
“I’ve been here for nearly 2 years. I’m studying here.”
“Why didn’t you tell me?!”
“Sorry, I forgot. I’m just too busy that I keep on forgetting important things…sorry again SC.” XY said in a pleading voice. “So why did you call me? Don’t tell me you’re wasting money on an overseas call just to give me a lecture?”
“Okay, I called you because I want to tell you that all of us are going on a European cruise and I want you to come with us. We will leave in a week and the cruise will take us two weeks. I won’t take no for an answer!” San Cai said this with a demanding tone that left XY no excuse to back out.
“Okay, you leave me with no choice but to say yes.”
“Then it is settled. You’ll come with us! YEY!” SC was jumping up and down and she accidentally landed on DMS right foot.
“OOOOUUUUCCCHHH! SAAAAAN CAAAAAAI! DO YOU WANT ME TO BECOME AN INVALID???!” DMS asked furiously.
“I’m sorry DMS, I’m sorry…”
“Pighead!”
“Hey I said I’m sorry, didn’t I? Why are you calling me pighead?”
“Because only pigheads stomp on someone else’s foot!”
“HA! As if you’re not a pighead yourself…”
“Wei, SC are you still there?” XY asked when she hears some screaming on the background.
“Hey XY, this is MZ. I think its better that you put your phone down before you go deaf with these two pigheads’ shouting. We’ll just see you in a week’s time ok?”
“Okay then, arrividerchi!” Then XY was cut from the line.
“What did she say Lei?” MZ was confused with the last word that XY said.
“She said, ‘bye’,” Lei was laughing again at MZ’s confused look.
While the antics were going on – Lei and Jing’s laughing at MZ’s reaction and DMS and SC’s shouting – only one remained quiet and still haven’t recovered from his shock.
Was that really XY? She speaks Italian really well…I can’t imagine the old XY speaking such language fluently…maybe she has changed a lot…God I want to see her!
