Upon her arrival, some of the staff that was already there stood up and greeted her. She replied and sat down at the farther end of the table. While waiting, she swiveled her chair to face the window where Taipei’s skyline can be seen. She was admiring the view from where she sat when somebody entered the room She knew who just entered. She swiveled her chair to face this person and immediately stood up.
From the moment she saw him, memories came flooding into her mind. She has tried over the years to forget him for she knew he would just bring her pain. Looking at him, it seems that he has aged a lot. There were many traces of his late night working habit, he has grown thinner and he seemed to have taken his responsibility as the heir of Ximen Enterprises seriously. Never the less, his aura was still there. There is always his air of confidence when he walks, his smile that could captivate any woman’s heart and his success that would make any parent proud. This was Ximen and she had learned to accept whatever she is faced with. She has learned that not everything goes like you wish them to be. She has learned a lot from his words and now it was time to face him. This meeting was purely business and she wanted to get this done as soon as possible for she has many things to attend to back in Chicago.

Ximen entered the room eagerly, finding out at last the woman who was after several of his companies. As he opened the door his staff and the visitors stood up to acknowledge his presence. He noticed as he glanced around the room that there was one chair that had its back turned to him. Slowly, the chair swiveled and reveals the woman he was after. As she stood up before him, everything in his body went numb. He felt blood rushing out from his face as soon as he saw her. “Is it really her?” he asked himself, looking at her there was no denying that the person before her now was Xiao You.
He was completely stunned at her transformation plus the fact that she was now one of his rivals in the business.
Many times he had dreamed about her coming back, but now that she was in front of him, he didn’t know what to do. He was completely shocked at the situation, while Xiao You kept her cool and just looked at him without even flinching. He admired her for coming this far. Who knew that the girl he once helped in getting back on her boyfriend was now the woman who was sought after him in the business.
“Xiao You,” he whispered to himself as he continued staring at her in disbelief.
“Master, Here is Ms. Adriana Chien.” His secretary told him as he went back to his senses.
“Good Morning Everyone, please take your seats.” He said trying to mask his shock and maintain his composure as he also took his seat at the end facing Xiao You.
“Ms. Chien, you are planning to buy one of my companies in the Untied States.”
“Yes, I believe that’s what I came here for.” She said as a matter-of-fact.
“But as I see it, you do not need to buy again one of my companies because you have acquired already three over the past few months.”
“Mr. Ximen, are we here to discuss how I run my company? I believe I can handle it on my own without your supervision.”
“I was merely giving my thoughts, Ms. Chien. You see, it’s my company that you are buying.”
“Oh yes, I remember that detail.”
“There are a lot of good companies out there so why’d you choose my company?”
“As I have said yesterday, I chose your company because I know it is well taken cared of.”
“Then what if I don’t sell it to you?” he asked.
“I believe you wont ask me to fly across the globe just to say that you refuse my offer to buy one of your companies.”
“But I really wont sell it to you.” He said seriously.
“Then what am I doing here?” she irritably asked.
“Well...”
“Well what, Mr. Ximen?”
“Well, I am suggesting a merger.” He replied.
He was also shocked at what he said because it just came out of his mouth but never the less, he didn’t regret suggesting it for he knew that her company is doing well in the market today.
“A what?” she said trying to see if what she heard was right.
“A merger, Ms. Chien.” He said calmly.
“So can I now ask a question?” she didn’t know why he suggested it, he seemed to be hesitant earlier in dealing again with her.
“Feel free.”
“Why would you consider having a merger with my company?”
“I see an opportunity like you see in my company.”
“Surely, but I know that there are more stable companies that are more than willing to have a merger with you so why my company that is only starting to expand?” she challenged him.
“I have researched about your company and I see that it would be fitting if we merge. I know that there are many companies that are more experienced than yours but I think I need to merge with a company that is fresh in the market and that you just came in time for it.”
“Oh.” She said digesting what he said.
“Are you willing or not?” he asked directly.
“I don’t see any reason to refuse your offer so that’s a yes.”
“Okay, we’ll meet on Friday to discuss the contract for the merging.”
“I’m afraid not, I’ll be fixing some things back in Chicago. I will be able to come back on Tuesday.”
“Alright, Tuesday.”
The people in the conference room then stood up and walked to the door while Ximen, Xiao You and her manager was left. Ximen remained seated on his chair while looking at Xiao You who was busy fixing her things on her suitcase while her manager was waiting for her. She knew all too well that Ximen wanted to talk to her because she felt him staring at her for the longest time with confusion but she remained silent. Xiao You with her manager walked towards the door when she heard her name.
“Xiao You…” He said softly standing up from his seat.
Xiao You then motioned Linda to go to the lobby and wait for her there, Linda obliged but she could see that she was confused when she told her to do so.
“Xiao You.” He said again not knowing what to tell her.
“Ximen, it’s nice to see you again.”
“Yeah, it’s been like what? 6 years?”
“Yes.”
“Listen, um…do you want to have lunch?” he said trying to put some sense in their conversation.
“I’m afraid I can’t, you see I have to visit my best friend or else I’ll surely get berated for not coming to see her.”
“Oh I see. I’ll see you soon then. Bye.”
“Bye Ximen.”
Both of them silently headed towards the door and parted their ways, Xiao You went to the elevator as Ximen went back to his office. Ximen knew even before he asked Xiao You to have lunch that she would just disagree for he knew that Xiao You was just talking to him out of sheer politeness.
