It was a bright Sunday afternoon and Michelle was basking under the sun on her balcony. She will be graduating soon this semester and everything seems so smooth-going. Being a devoted social worker has always been her dream, because she just love helping people, and cares for them, just like how much she cared for her precious little sister, Jess.
JESS: (walking out from room towards Michelle) Ka Jai, what are doing there? It’s so hot! And the sun is scorching you to death!
MICHELLE: (protests) Stop using the word ‘death’… and basking under the sun is such an enjoyable thing to do. (she closes her eyes once more to enjoy the sunshine)
JESS: (disagreeing) I would rather accompany my X-box!
MICHELLE: (without turning around) Yes, take a rest while you can… school is starting soon…
JESS: (sighs) School again… Don’t you spoil my day… I HATE school… (shouting)
MICHELLE: Just face it, my dear sister… You said you liked psychology, didn’t you?
JESS: Yes… but… (hesitates)
MICHELLE: (turns around and walks into the living room) But what?
JESS: Emmm… nothing… you’ll kill me if I say it out!
MICHELLE: (knows what she is thinking) You lazy bum! (using the sofa cushion and smash her head)
JESS: (defends herself) Ouch, Ka Jai, you know it hurts? Anyway, how is your Sammul getting on?
MICHELLE: (smiles) None of your business! Don’t be such a busybody!
JESS: (playing her games) I think Mum has invited him for dinner the day after tomorrow…
MICHELLE: Stop fooling me!
JESS: It’s 100% true… Mummy called Sammul Gor yesterday night…
MICHELLE: Why didn’t you tell me?
JESS: Emmm… I’m informing you now lor… what’s the matter? It’s a matter of time before he needs to meet our parents… hehe… (giggling away happily)(Michelle kept quiet and Jess, noticing that, paused her game and turned around to look at her) What’s wrong, Ka Jai? You two had a quarrel?
MICHELLE: No, but recently I feel we’re drifting apart… (in a daze)
JESS: Drifting apart? But you two have been together for 3 years! Sammul Gor is such a nice guy, I wish I could someone like him to care for me… If you don’t want him, give him to me then… (making a puppy face)
MICHELLE: (chuckles and shakes her head) You little imp! In your dreams!
Michelle sat back on the sofa and went deep into her thoughts. She knew Sammul love her very much, but somehow, she feels that he is not for her. He is a guy who would keep everything to himself, and be pessimistic about things around him… Michelle is just the opposite, she is outgoing and straight-forward, unlike Sammul who would refrains so much from speaking up unnecessarily. She still remembered how she get to know Sammul 3 years ago…
*FLASHBACKS*
MICHELLE: (running to her lecture, and accidentally bumped into someone) I’m sorry.
GUY: Hey look, all my notes are over the place, look where you’re going, Miss!
MICHELLE: (rushingly helps the guy to pick up his notes) Sorry, sorry…
SAMMUL: (Walking from behind) I’ll help you with it. (quietly picks up the notes and then walks away)
Michelle gave him a quick glance, and rushed for her lecture. In 2 minutes’ time she found her way into the LT and found a seat near the stairs to sit down. To her surprise, Sammul was sitting 2 seats beside her, and he smiled at her when he found that Michelle was giving him a glance. She smiled shyly in return, and turn her head to the lecturer, trying to listen to him.
After the lecture, Michelle walked near Sammul and thanked him for helping her out just now. He gives a sheepish smile which Michelle found charming, then he looked down.
SAMMUL: Do you mind to have lunch with me?
Michelle nodded pleasurably, and that is how they started, smoothly…
* END OF FLASHBACKS*

(The next day)(Sammul’s office)
MICHELLE: (knocks at the door) Hello, Mr. Ching, when are you available for lunch?
SAMMUL: (puts his hand on his head) Oh yes! I almost forgot I’m meeting you for lunch…(pauses for a moment) and your parents for dinner tomorrow.
MICHELLE: (sits down) I haven’t asked you… Why did you agree to it?
SAMMUL: (smiles) Hey Miss Chan, we’ve been together for 3 years, I finds it a bit late to meet your parents. If I have the chance to let you meet my parents, I would have done so long ago… (looks down and keeps his smile)
MICHELLE: (trying hard to digress the topic) Emmm… Jess said she missed you very much…
SAMMUL: Oh Yes, little Jess has grown up, is she going to enter University this year?
MICHELLE: (nods her head) Emmm.
RAYMOND: (knocks at the door) Sorry, am I disturbing you? (gives Michelle a quick glance)
SAMMUL: (looks at Michelle, then at Raymond) No, what’s up, Ray?
RAYMOND: (passes him a file) Here’s the report you’ve requested.
SAMMUL: (takes the file) Emmm, (To Michelle) this is Raymond, my colleague.. (to Raymond) and this is Michelle, my girlfriend.. (both of them shakes hands while Raymond excuses himself)
MICHELLE: (protesting) Where are we going for lunch, Sammul? I’m famished…
SAMMUL: (smiles) Ok, give me a minute…
Raymond turns to take a last glance at Michelle. He smiles sheepishly to himself. He had a little thought, how nice would it be to have a girlfriend as sweet as Michelle, then he moved on.
