Chapter 10

- 'I knew it was you... Kim Jaejoong' -

Jaejoong arrived back at Osaka and headed straight to Aya’s house. When he was turning the corner, he raised his eyes to a few masculine men before him, standing like a wall blocking his path.

“Let me guess… Mr. Choi wishes to see me?” The men just nodded. Jaejoong uttered a silent sigh, looking passed the men to Aya’s house before returning his gaze to them.

“Lead the way…”

“Aya… Aya!”

Aya snapped from her thoughts and looks up at Siwon staring worriedly at her.

“Are you okay?” Siwon asked gently.

“Yes, I am fine. I was just thinking what to eat. Let me get the waiter.” Aya twirled to the back, about to lift her hand to call one of the nearby waiters when Siwon leans forward and grabs hold of her hand.

“Aya, I already order for us just now.”

Aya stared at Siwon with a blank look before tearing her gaze from him and chuckled slightly.

“Right… I… erm… I just wanted to make sure he caught what we order. It has been a little long now.” Aya said awkwardly. She swirls the straw in her glass of orange juice a few times before lifting the glass to her mouth.

“Is there something you are not telling me?” Siwon crossed his hands and leans his body forward against the table.

“What’s there to tell?” Aya looks innocently at Siwon although she could feel her body shrank back against her chair a little.

“Okay. Let me rephrase my question. Is there something bothering you?” Siwon tries to get to her again. He could see Aya bit her lower lip and lowered her face.

“You will feel better getting it out instead of keeping it in. I was hoping to see the usual carefree Aya I know when I get back.”

When Aya let out a heavy sigh, he knew his guess was right.

“Yesterday, I went to Kazuki’s room, hoping to help tidy up his room on his absence. When I was cleaning… well… I found something...”

“What was it?” Siwon asked when she suddenly just broke off there.

“It… it was a ring.”

“Oh.” Siwon said shortly. But then he noticed there was something else behind this. Aya had her eyebrows scrunched together, looking like she was staring off to a thought.

“But… there was something engraved within the ring.” He just stares patiently at Aya, a part of him worried about her. She doesn’t usually stuck on her words like this. It seems she was in her own thoughts right then instead of confiding her problem to him. But he didn’t want to rush an answer from her, just letting her take her time explaining all these to him and try his best to see what he can do to help her.

“Forever in my heart, E” Aya murmured blankly.

“Was that the engraved words on the ring?” Siwon asked but Aya did not respond to him. She suddenly lifts her gaze to him and he could see she was looking troubled.

“Do you think he had someone else those three years? But then… why did he come back... what happened to them?”

“Aya, listen to me for a while.” He reached his hand out and placed it gently on her hand. She looks up at him in a blank look, regaining enough of her mind to heed whatever Siwon has to say.

“Instead of thinking too much by yourself, I think you should open up to him. If anything goes wrong, you still have me here to back you up.”

Siwon gave her an assuring smile and Aya finally replied him with a smile as well.

“Jaejoong-sshi, good to see you again.” Mr. Choi greeted as soon as he saw Jaejoong in sight.

Jaejoong reached Mr. Choi side by a table where a chessboard was set out in the middle of the table. He let his eyes wandered swiftly around, observing the surrounding. The place seems to have more black-suited men guarding around; some camouflage themselves under the shady trees and some stay hidden by the available pillars of the place. Jaejoong presumed that this must be where Mr. Choi lives, to have so many of his men guarding the place so closely at every available corners.

“Do you play chess, Jaejoong?” Mr. Choi asked. He did a hand gesture to his men and they left to give Jaejoong and Mr. Choi their privacy.

Jaejoong glanced by the corner of his eyes at the men slowly vanished from his sight before he took the seat in front of Mr. Choi. His eyes was drawn to the arrangement of the chess pieces on the board, it seems it have been left to the pattern that Mr. Choi was winning and another piece was about to be eaten by the opponent’s chess piece.

“Your move.” Mr. Choi slides his palm out towards Jaejoong.

Jaejoong had his elbow rested on the table with his face leaned against his hand cupping his chin. He furrowed his eyebrows as he thought of his next move. After a moment, Jaejoong moves one of the chess piece forward, leaving the one that was about to be eaten to be undefended. Mr. Choi smirked before moving his black piece to the spot and gobbles the white piece, swallowing it close in his palm closed up.

“You could have defended that piece.”

Jaejoong smirked, moving his white piece and caught Mr. Choi off-guard by gobbling the black Queen piece he was actually aiming at.

“Small sacrifices have to be made if you are to aim for bigger catch.”

Mr. Choi chuckled in amazement.

“You just proven my choice right on wanting to hire you as a permanent.”

Jaejoong raised his sight up from the chessboard and furrowed his eyebrows.

“Pardon?”

Mr. Choi leans forward, moving one of his chess piece before he spoke again.

“I am offering to hire you to help me permanently. You are still free to accept any other missions from other clients as usual and don’t even have to stay close contact to me with monthly high salary paid to you. The only catch is you are not to accept mission from my enemies or any other that would be of a disadvantage to me and also to accept every single task I assigned to you, without rejection or complains. How’s that?”

Jaejoong lowered his gaze back to the board and move another piece forward.

“Sounds promising. Seems I have no reason to reject such great offer. But I don’t like the feeling of working as a pawn.” Jaejoong said coldly.

“Pawn is such a harsh word. Think of it like a… Knight perhaps?” Mr. Choi held up his Knight piece and placed it down to a spot.

Jaejoong flashes a smirk to Mr. Choi and moves a chess piece. They remained focus and silent throughout the remainder of the game until reaching a spot which seems Mr. Choi was on the winning end. Mr. Choi had it all planned out and predicted in his head, just two more moves and he wins the game.

“It seems you are going easy on me Jaejoong-sshi. I hope you are not trying to suck up to the boss just yet.”

Jaejoong pick up one of the white piece, twisting it with his fingers by the tip so it swings around before raising a mischievous glance at Mr. Choi.

“That’s where you don’t know me at all.”

He placed the chess piece down and Mr. Choi widened his eyes on his King piece being in check.

“Checkmate!” Jaejoong smirked.

Yeon Hee was going to see Mr. Choi when a figure strides passed her caused her to halted. She looks back over the shoulder at the figure before turning her body half-circle to the back.

{Isn’t that…} She thought to herself for a sec, her eyebrows scrunched together to a thought before she returning her gaze to the back slowly leaving from her sight. She was about to run up to the guy when someone called up to her.

“Dr. Lee, the master is inside waiting for you.” The servant directs his hand to the entrance of the house.

Yeon Hee cast one last glance to the back and saw the figure was already vanished. She looked back at the servant and nodded before following behind him to the house.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

“Yeon Hee, you are here.”

Yeon Hee nodded a thank to the servant before the servant dismissed himself. She glanced down at the chessboard on the table before lifting her gaze to Mr. Choi.

“Uncle Choi, you have company just now?” Yeon Hee asked.

“Ah~ yes. Just an acquaintance.” Mr. Choi answered casually. His gaze fixed on the chessboard while his hand rubbing his jaw.

“He doesn’t seem like a familiar face here. What was he here for?” Yeon Hee tried to dig in some more.

“Just to accompany this old man for a game of chess. You are asking a lot today, Yeon Hee. Do you know him by any chance?”

Yeon Hee shows a mild smile and shook her head from side to side. She wasn’t really sure if it was him anyway.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

“Tadaima! (I’m back)” Jaejoong called out by the door once he enters.

“Okaeri Uemura-kun! (Welcome back Uemura-kun!)” Aya’s mother wipes her wet hands on the waist apron she had on as she approaches Jaejoong.

“How’s your trip?” She asked.

“Oh, fine… Where is Aya-chan?” Jaejoong just casually answered as he throws his bag onto the couch.

“She is in her room. Already missing her? You two are such lovebirds.” Aya’s mother teased. Jaejoong just smiled before striding passed her and headed to Aya’s room.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Aya sat there by the edge of her bed with her head lowered that her hair spills down covering her face, mindlessly staring down at the ring on her palm. Even as her hands closed up to a fist, covering the sight of the ring, it wasn’t enough to rid off her troubled heart.

“Aya.”

Aya heard her name being called by that familiar voice, only this time she remained in the position she was at instead of excitedly sprint up to him like she used to. Her view never left her fist as the sound of his footsteps slowly approach closer to her, stopping beside her as he sat down on the bed next to her. She lifts her eyes to him as he lifts a hand and pushed her hair back behind her ear.

“Are you okay?” Jaejoong asked gently. Aya just replied him with a smile, which fades off shortly to its present frown. Jaejoong lifts a finger to her cheek and gave it a light poke, causing her attention to divert back to him.

“You don’t look okay to me. What’s wrong?”

Aya stares silently at Jaejoong’s eyes, wondering in her head if she should confront him. She then placed both hands clamped on Jaejoong’s hands on his lap, heaved a light breath before speaking up.

“Kazuki… Is there something you are hiding from me?”

Jaejoong was startled by her question. Could she have discovered his true identity? Maybe she is just having suspicions. He conceals his true emotion and shows her a calm face.

“No, did you hear some rumors or something?” Jaejoong answered with an innocent smile.

Her face shows disappointment at his answer. She lifts her fist before Jaejoong’s face and the instance she opens it up to reveal the ring, the smile on Jaejoong’s face drops off.

“Where did you get this?” Jaejoong’s face turned down to a frown as he asked.

“In your room… Who is this ‘E’, Kazuki? Is ther-”

“You entered my room without my permission?! What were you doing in my room? Runmaging through my stuffs?!” Jaejoong exploded.

“I just wanted to help tidy your room a little and saw this under your ta-”

“So you think being my fiancée gives you the right to invade my privacy?!” Jaejoong’s voice rose louder and his face was flushed with rage.

“I… I didn’t mean to… That isn’t the matter I wanted to discuss with you about…” Aya’s voice was shaky as tears were already gathered in her eyes.

Jaejoong just ignores her and sprint out of the room angrily but halted when he met with Aya’s mother outside the door.

“Uemura-kun, where are you going? Dinner is almo-”

“I am not hungry.” Jaejoong muttered before marching passed Aya’s mother and left with a loud slam of the door behind him. Aya’s mother rushed into the room, only to see her daughter hurriedly to shut the door.

"Aya-chan, what's wrong?" Aya's mother pressed one hand on the door, stopping the door from closing. Aya had her head averted at her mother, not letting her see the tears brimming down the edges of her eyes.

"Nothing, Kaa-san. I just need some time alone." Aya pushed the door at full force and it slammed shut before her mother's worried face.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Jaejoong’s footsteps were heavy as he walks on the streets of the night, stuffing both hands in his jacket pockets. But then he stopped his pace, soothing his heavy breathing and calms his mind. He slapped his palm onto his forehead when he thought back how reckless he behaves just now. He should have wisely face Aya just now instead of simply blowing up at her face like that.

{I should go back and apologize to her… But first I need to think up an excuse for the ring… Come on Jaejoong! Think!} Jaejoong taps one finger to the side of his head. He continues letting his legs take him forward as he deepens into his thoughts on the excuse.

Out of the blues, he darted his eyes to the sight of a fist appearing from the dark alley beside him, aiming towards his face. He leans his head backward with a hand swiftly lifted up to grab the fist and a kick was next up to swing to his stomach but he used his other hand to hit it off. He marched up to his assailant in the dark alley, pushing her against the wall with the hand he gripped on angled onto the assailant’s neck, choking her.

She was about to use her other fist to punch his stomach but he swiftly clamped it against her stomach, held it there firmly.

“Who sent you?” Jaejoong murmured coldly.

“You.. You been training hard I see.”

Jaejoong loosens his grip on her and back off from her. She uttered a few coughs before taking slow steps towards him, revealing herself from the shadow.

Yeon Hee smirked at the shocked expression on Jaejoong’s face as she rubs the soreness on her wrist left by Jaejoong’s grip.

“I knew it was you… Kim Jaejoong.”

Author's Note: Sorry for the cliffhanger. There is actually more to Yeon Hee than just Mr. Choi's private doctor. So what is her relation to Jaejoong? You just have to find out in the next chapter.

I am sorry to say this... I will be on a week hiatus. Kinda taking a break from writing. The ideas are in my mind but it is frozen on the way to express them. I just need some time to clear my head I guess.

Hope you enjoyed the story so far. Comments and criticism are more than welcomed!
