Chapter 12

- Another dream, a nightmare -

Siwon ripped the seal of the sugar pack and pour it into his cup of coffee, giving it a little stir with the spoon before lifting the spoon from the cup and placing it to the saucer. Just as he was about to take a sip of his coffee, the person he was waiting had finally arrived.

Jaejoong pulls out the chair facing Siwon and took his seat. A waitress came to his side, asking his order and Jaejoong just smiled with a gesture of his hand that he didn’t need anything and she walks off again.

“Siwon, right? We didn’t get the chance to know each other since you were rushing off that day.”

“Yes, that’s why I ask you here. To have a talk… about Aya.”

“Aya?”

Siwon placed the cup back on the saucer, crossing his arms together and leans against the table. He steadies himself serious, keeping his words organized in his mind before speaking out.

“Yes. I don’t know if you noticed but Aya has been upset about something lately. Knowing her, I knew it was something to do with you and was surprise it was because of a ring… that wasn’t meant for her?”

“Ah~ the ring. Well, it is none of your concern anymore.”

“I know I don’t have the right to give a say in this matter but Aya is my friend and I won’t standby in any matters that makes her upset… Aya is a very fragile girl that is honest and true to everything she does, especially in her love. If you really love her, I still you need to put more concern in her and don’t make her feel unnecessary worries and doubts.”

“If?” Jaejoong questioned before he chuckled annoyingly.

“I understand that you have been keeping in touch with Aya through mail although you are overseas all these years but I wanna make some things clear. I don’t like how you are questioning the love I have for Aya. I really and truly love her wholly and always try my best to keep near to her-”

“Then why have you left her all alone for a whole three years without any news of you?! Knowing for every second passes in a day she grew more worried and felt more painful inside?!” Siwon restrains his voice from raising and keeping himself rational.

“I don’t think I have to explain myself to you.” Jaejoong stood up and turned his back, about to leave.

“What about Aya? She has all the rights to know about everything that went on with your life without her presence.” Siwon stood up as well and said to Jaejoong’s back as he halted there. Jaejoong whipped his head back to look at Siwon while his body was turned sideways.

“I knew it since the first moment I see you, Choi Siwon. I know you have feelings for Aya. I think you need to make it clear to your head that Aya is MY fiancée and that any problems between us we will settle them ourselves, you don’t have to concern yourself too much into it. And one more thing… how do you know I haven’t talk things through with Aya?”

Siwon didn’t reply and just stood there exchanging glares with Jaejoong.

“Kazuki!”

Aya’s voice broke the focus between them as she arrived by Jaejoong’s side. Jaejoong shifted his view to Aya and gave her a smile while Siwon looks away, clearing his throat.

“Did something happen?” Aya asked uneasily, switching her gaze from Siwon to Jaejoong.

“Siwon just wanted to talk to me about a certain ring?” Jaejoong arched one eyebrow at Aya.

“Oh.” Aya went a few steps front towards Siwon and did a light bow.

“Sorry for worrying you, Siwon. Kazuki already explained things to me. I am fine now.” She flashes Siwon an assuring smile. Jaejoong walks over to Aya side and wraps his arms around her waist, pulling her closer to him.

“If Siwon didn’t come and find me, I won’t have know you been confiding your problems to him… And also how terrible you must feel, not being able to confront matters to me and just keeping it all inside. What a horrible fiancé I have been. I am sorry, Aya.” Jaejoong murmured, pressing his forehead against hers.

“It was my fault for thinking too much. I feel bad for having to trigger your painful memories. I was being too nosy. Sorry.” Aya apologized with a frown.

“Silly girl. I am the one to apologize here, not you. Can’t you give me a chance to fully admit my wrong?” Jaejoong flicks her nose lightly and they exchange smiles.

Seeing the sight before him really aches his heart. But then Siwon conceals the feeling and shot up his question.

“Aya, how did you know to come here?”

“Allow me to answer that.” Jaejoong turned to face Siwon, resting both hands on each side of Aya’s shoulder.

“Aya is here because I have to bring her to meet a friend for a movie.”

“Kazuki said he was going to meet with someone for a while and ask me to come here when it’s about time. I didn’t know it was you, Siwon.” Aya inserted.

Siwon just smiles and shrugged innocently.

“Aya, we better go now. Won’t want your friend waiting.”

“Okay. Bye Siwon.”

Siwon waves goodbye to Aya before watching them turn away and left. Still having Aya and Jaejoong within his view, he could see them both playfully teasing each other as Jaejoong did a light push on Aya’s forehead and Aya letting out a pout before they both starts giggling again. Siwon inhaled deeply before turning away as well with a heavy heart.

“Aya-chan!”

“Akira!”

The two girls hugged together and squeal happily like some little girls. After they separated from the hug, Akira looks over Aya’s shoulder at Jaejoong.

“Uemura-kun, something is different about you…”

“I…” Alerts were going off in his mind. Could this girl see something in him that differs from the real Kazuki?

“You look livelier and more handsome… But Aya is looking drained. How can you let that happen?”

“Akira!” Aya tugged at Akira’s hand and whined.

“I am only teasing around. Nice blue contact lens, Uemura-kun.”

Jaejoong rubbed at the nape of his neck and gave an awkward smile; inside he heaved a sigh of relief.

“We better go now. The movie is about to start. Nice seeing you again, Uemura-kun.”

“Y-yeah. Nice seeing you again too.” Jaejoong replied. Aya was already forcefully dragging Akira away. Her face set a frown as Akira continues teasing her. Watching them fading from his view, Jaejoong uttered a chuckle before walking away.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

“You sure you still wanna go through with this, Hyung?”

Jaejoong sighed deeply, brushing a hand passed his face to his hair.

“You finally found your family and here you are about to kill his fiancée?”

“It is just the way I am trained, Changmin. A cold-blooded killer. It is just who I am.”

“You always have the choice to change. Don’t make yourself regret continuing this.”

“Mr. Choi could hire someone else to kill her even if it wasn’t me who came in the line. It is her fate. Maybe they aren’t destined to be together.”

“You don’t believe in those fate rubbish and destined junk. You are just finding an excuse for your doing.”

Jaejoong sighed heavier.

“Changmin… there’s no turning back for me now even if I stop this. My soul is already tainted with the blood of those I killed throughout my life. I already know hell has made a booking for me.”

“Hyung, don’t say that. It is never too late as long as you have the will to change. Junsu hyung and Yunho hyung are good examples. We will be here supporting you no matter what happens.”

Out of a sudden, Jaejoong diverted his attention to a scream heard – it was Aya’s scream.

“Changmin, I got to go now. Talk to you soon. Bye!” Jaejoong spoke absently and close the video conferencing window without waiting for Changmin’s reply. Another scream was heard and Jaejoong promptly stormed to Aya’s room.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

“Aya! What’s wrong?”

Jaejoong roughly swings the door open hard and wanders his eyes till they landed on Aya on the bed. She curled her legs together against her chest, the blanket tucked over her knees.

“Th-the-there.” Aya stuttered, pointing a trembling finger to the window of her bedroom.

Jaejoong peers at the shadow by the window and made slow caution steps towards it.

“Careful Kazuki!” Aya called out as Jaejoong reached the window side. As Jaejoong swiftly pulls the curtain from the window, Aya yelped and shoved the blanket over her head.

“Aya, it is just a tree branch.”

Aya shifts the blanket away and saw the tree branch tangled to the edge of her window frame.

“I thought it was a ghost. Sorry.” Aya admitted, casting Jaejoong an awkward smile.

“Ghost?”

Just then, Aya shrieked when a shadow swiftly flew passed the window. Jaejoong tossed his head out of the window, glancing about and realize it was just a bird.

“It is just a bird?” Jaejoong arched an eyebrow at Aya.

“Right…” Aya murmured, not daring to look Jaejoong in the eyes.

“Aya, was it a horror movie you went to watch with Akira?”

Aya looked at Jaejoong over her knees and nodded embarrassedly.

“Aya…”

“I know. But Akira wanted to watch and I feel bad for turning her down. Especially after we haven’t seen each other for so long.”

“So you rather let yourself become like this?” Jaejoong points one finger to the dim light of the table lamp on the table beside Aya’s bed. Aya just shrunk deeply behind her blanket.

Jaejoong went to sit beside Aya by the bed, heaving a sigh before he spoke up.

“Aya, there’s no such thing as ghosts in this world.”

Aya narrowed her eyes at Jaejoong. Who does he think she is? A 3-year old? Jaejoong waves his hands innocently before him before he continues.

“Okay, so ghosts exist in this world, but there are much scarier things out there to be fear than ghosts. Humans can be scarier sometimes.” Jaejoong muttered the last part. For a guy that kills another so casually for a living, ghost isn’t a thing to be afraid of at all.

When he noticed Aya was staring questioningly at him, he clears his throat and stretches his hand to the table lamp. Seeing what he was doing, Aya promptly reached for his hand, stopping him.

“It’s okay. I will be here with you until you are asleep.”

Aya reeled back her hand and Jaejoong flips the switch off. The room was instantly swallowed into darkness and shivers crept down Aya’s spine.

Jaejoong laid Aya down from her sitting position and tucks the blanket to her shoulder. He sat closer and bent his head lower to her, whispering for her to close her eyes and get some sleep. Aya felt secure with the warmth of his breath surrounding the air around her face and the gentleness of his hand caressing her hair.

Aya’s eyes were only shut for a short moment before it flashes open once again and looks up at Jaejoong staring concern at her.

“What’s wrong?” Jaejoong whispered softly to her.

“I can’t sleep. Every time I hear even the softest spark of noise, my mind shook awake again.”

Jaejoong uttered a light chuckle. Aya stares up at Jaejoong in silence before he spoke up.

“How about a song?” Jaejoong suggested.

“You singing?” Aya’s tone shows disbelief. Jaejoong chuckled lightly at her reaction.

[Song played: Insa by Hero Jaejoong = http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sdWh6Ypet00&feature=related]

“Just close your eyes… and heed your ears to my voice.”

Aya nodded before slowly shutting her eyes. Jaejoong inhaled lightly before his mouth parted to the song.

“Barami momun… gu shigan jocha… Naegen nomu mojarangol…”

Aya let her mind drift off to the song. Although she doesn't know what the song was about, but Jaejoong voice kept her secure and chase away her fears, allowing no other noise to disrupt her as she fell asleep.

Jaejoong kept singing till he heard the light wheezing from Aya.

“Aya?” He whispered softly but earns no response. Affirming that she was already sound asleep, Jaejoong carefully got up from the bed and quietly walks to the door. He glanced at Aya over his shoulder with a smile before closing the door gently on his way out.

[End Song]

[+Dream+]

Jaejoong found himself in an endless darkness; a voice that kept calling for him was heard a distance away. His legs were moving forward but was getting him nowhere in this darkness. Yet the voice seems to be getting closer.

He halted when his eyes were drawn to a little boy standing not too far in front of him. The boy was an exact image of him when he was young. His face lit a smile and his hand gestured for Jaejoong to come to him.

But a word whispered into Jaejoong’s ear tells him that the boy wasn’t little him, which was the word mouthed by the little boy – Hyung.

Jaejoong’s face grew happy. He tried moving a leg forward but it won’t budge. Looking down, he saw his feet swallowed up by the darkness.

“Hyung!”

Jaejoong whipped his head up and saw the little boy being pulled backward into the darkness.

“Hyung!” The boy yelled, reaching his hand out towards Jaejoong. His face looked distress and seeming about to cry.

“No! Jaejun! Stop!” Jaejoong tried his hardest to move from the spot but couldn’t. He gripped both hands on his leg, using all the strength in him to pull his leg free but the darkness just swallowed deeper, devouring till his knee.

“Damn it! Jaejun!” Jaejoong whipped his head back and saw the boy slowly fading, only his hand and head was still visible.

Jaejoong stretched his hand out to reach the boy’s hand. ‘Just a little more’, his mind kept screaming. He stretches his hand out with all his might, with such force that the veins on his hand were turning visible on his skin.

“Don’t worry, Jaejun. Hyung got you. Reach for my hand!”

“Hyung!” The boy cried out before his head completely sink into the darkness, along with his hand slowly devoured till only the sight of his fingers were seen slowly fading from Jaejoong’s view.

“No! Jaejun! JAEJUN!!”

[+End Dream+]

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

“JAEJUN!!!!”

Jaejoong yelled as he jumped up to a sitting position on his bed. The singlet he had on was damp with his sweat and dripping of cold sweats was rolling down his cheeks.

He was panting while glancing around his room before settling his eyes on the clock beside. The clock reads 3 a.m. Jaejoong brushed his hand over his forehead, covering his palm over his eyes as he soothes his breathing.

Jaejoong pushed backward to lean his back against the wall. He stretched his hand under his pillow and took out the photo underneath – his family photo.

Smoothing a finger over the surface of the photo, his chest felt congested and tight again. His eyebrows scrunched in frustration as he stares from his mother, to his father and lastly landed on his brother.

Jaejoong tried squinting his eyes together tight, forcing his mind to recall the past, only to have images flashing fast before him in such speed he can’t properly capture the moments. The more decent remembrances in his head were just the cheerful voices of his parents, too much was still blank.

Jaejoong sighed heavily as his eyes lifted open once again. Nothing… all he knows about his family were all that he heard from others. He could not remember them clear enough. Staring at the image of his brother in the photo, the frustration gathering inside of him was reflecting an urge to cry. But Jaejoong will never let himself sink down to that.

“Jaejun…” his voice turned a little shaky. He placed the photo back under his pillow and force himself back to slumberland.
