Chapter 3

- Blurry past turning clearer -

“Kazuki!!”

Aya promptly leans forward linking her hands behind Jaejoong and hugging him tightly.

“I-I am not dreaming, am I?” She stuttered; her face lingered an utmost incredulous yet happy smile.

Jaejoong lift his hand to her cheek and gave it a squeeze. The heard of an ‘ouch!’ from Aya and he pulls back his hand, stuffing it back into his jean pocket.

“How’s that for dreaming?” Jaejoong teased and Aya rubbed her cheek gently while giving a pout. But the pout disappeared quick and switches to a silly smile as she just stares down at her fingers intertwined together nervously.

“Aren’t you going to help me in?”

“Erhm…” Aya raised her gaze with her face flushed red at Jaejoong and stretches her hand out clumsily to Jaejoong’s luggage on the floor but her mother had already took hold of the luggage and dragging it into the house.

“Ka-Kaa-san, let me do it.” Aya offered and tries to grab the luggage from her mother.

“It’s okay. I can handle this. We would be standing by the door till dinner if we were to wait for you to react.” Aya’s mother teased. She turned towards Jaejoong and smiled as Jaejoong bow slightly to her.

“This little girl still gets so excited and helpless when she sees you. Don’t mind her. Your room is up front.” Aya’s mother spoke to Jaejoong.

“Kaa-san!” Aya whined. Jaejoong let out a laugh and Aya lowered her head as her face was flushed redder.

When they reached the room, Jaejoong politely took his luggage from Aya’s mother and thanked her with a smile. He placed the luggage beside the bed and started taking slow steps and glancing around the place with both his hands stuffed into his jean pocket.

“If you need anything, feel free to tell us.” Aya’s mother offered. Jaejoong turned back to face her with a slight nod of head as understood.

“Aya dear, let’s give Jaejoong some time alone. I am sure he would prefer to be left alone to settle in and unpack his stuff.” Aya’s mother nudged Aya. Aya nodded and followed her mother out, closing the door on their way out.

Just as Aya and her mother vanished from his sight, Jaejoong let down the smile on his face and starts observing the place. His fingers tapping and trailing along the wall and down to the wooden table as he walked around glancing his surrounding.

Jaejoong stopped his pace when his fingers reached a photo frame placed on top of the table. His eyebrows knitted together as he lifts the photo frame closer before him and stares at the picture.

It was a picture of Aya and Kazuki, the guy that looks so much like Jaejoong that he still disbelieving how small this world can be. Aya’s hair was longer back then and Kazuki had his two fingers lifted up as a V sign behind Aya’s head. Jaejoong chuckled slightly before placing the photo frame back to its original spot.

He walks towards the bed, giving a few light kicks to the foot of the bed frame before throwing himself onto the bed and stares blankly at the ceiling above. He felt his eyelids getting heavy, feeling only his breathing surrounding him as he slowly closes his eyes.

{{Jaejoong…}}

Jaejoong’s eyes promptly flashed back open when he heard that whisper of his name again. He sat up against the edge of the bed and had his upper body bend slightly with his hand brushing over the surface of his forehead. A grumpy feeling developed within him leading him to stand up and starts marching out of the room.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Jaejoong halted outside a room when his sight caught Aya sitting there by the bed flipping through a photo album with her back facing the door halfway shut. A thought suddenly struck Jaejoong as he made quiet steps entering the room and reached Aya’s side, staring down over her head to see what she was looking at.

Aya was smiling silly at herself while looking through the photo album filled with photos she taken with Kazuki, each showing as much good memories they spent together from the next. Then, one photo caught Jaejoong’s curiosity.

“Who’s that?” Jaejoong asked as he extended one finger passed Aya’s shoulder from behind to that particular photo on the album. The photo shows a quite pretty girl pouting her bottom lips out with her hands crossed together in front of her chest.

“That’s you, silly. Don’t you remember?” Aya giggled.

“Me?!” Jaejoong snatched the photo album from Aya and glanced at it on his lap as he sat beside Aya on the bed.

“Don’t sound so shocked. That time you played a prank on me and made me angry that ignored you for almost a week. You said you will do anything if I stop being angry with you and I dared you to wear girl’s clothing for me to take a picture. All the guys that passed by whistled at you.”

“Well, I do look better than most girls.” Jaejoong boasted and Aya nudged him by the elbow. Aya stares at Jaejoong as he happily flips through the pages of the photo album, glancing at each of the pictures.

“Kazuki… Did you meet with that musician you said you were going to meet?”

“Yeah, he really is what they said. I learned a lot from him.” Jaejoong answered with his sight not leaving the photo album.

“Is that why you were too busy to even write to me all those years?”

Jaejoong paused for a while before flipping the book close and look straight at Aya. He took her hands into his and gaze into her eyes.

“I’m back now, am I?”

“Maybe what I’m trying to say was… did you miss me as much as I missed you all these years? Why did you leave me with no news of you for so long?” Jaejoong’s grip on Aya’s hands loosens as he tore his gaze from her.

“I…”

Just then, a knock on the door diverted their attention from each other and drawn them to Aya’s mother standing by the door.

“Aya-chan… Uemura-kun… Dinner is ready.”

Jaejoong turned back to face Aya and placed his hand on the side of her face.

“We can talk more later. I am not going anywhere… at least if you don’t want me to.”

Aya nodded with a smile. Aya clasped her hand tightly with Jaejoong's hand as he led her out of the room.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

After dinner, Jaejoong went back to his room. His hand slides up to the light switch about to press it when he halted there. After a few thoughts, he decided not to switch on the light and walks towards his bed, sitting on the edge of the bed and threw his sight out at the full moon outside the window. The full round moon shines its light bright through the window, just enough of a light source for Jaejoong to see the surrounding of the room.

“I gotta be careful when I talk.” Jaejoong muttered to himself. He leans hard backward so he was resting on the bed and had one arm angled and placed down to cover his eyes, forcing himself to sleep.

[+Subconscious mind+]

Yet again Jaejoong sees the sky as dark as ever with the rain pouring down heavily. The vision before him this time were clearer as he noticed the two figures before him was standing in front of an old building. The building must have been there centuries already; the paint on the wall was slowly peeling off and he could see the hinge of the doorframe was quite rust out.

Jaejoong found himself once again shifting his gaze to the person beside him. This time his gaze reached the person but he could only see the outline of the person – an outline of a little kid. The person’s face was too blurry to make out his facial features.

[+End+]

Jaejoong lifts his arm away from his eyes with his eyes now wide open. A frown made its way to his face unexpectedly as he strained his head hard to remember why that building looks so familiar to him.

Then it hit him. Jaejoong promptly got up and headed to the table. He pulled the chair from beneath the table and sat on it as he flips his laptop open, popping up the videoconferencing window and waiting for the response on the other line.

“What’s up, Hyung?” Not long after, Changmin appeared on the screen and stared at Jaejoong curiously.

“Changmin, help me check if there’s any relation between Uemura Kazuki and the orphanage I came from.” Jaejoong spoke anxiously.

“The orphanage you came from? What makes you think it will have anything to do with Uemura Kazuki? The data shows he had a pretty good family with a mother and father.”

“Don’t ask too much for now, Changmin. It’s just a hunch… a very bad hunch.” Jaejoong’s voice fades down to a whisper.

“Okay Hyung. I knew some of these data came by too easily. Maybe there’s something we haven’t discover yet. I will let you know if I found anything.”

“Thanks Changmin. I knew I could count on you.”

With that, Jaejoong shut off the videoconferencing and flips his laptop back shut. Jaejoong shifts his gaze to the photo frame on the table; his hand landed on his chest, clutching it tightly as the strange feeling stuffed his chest again. His hunches never fail him. Ever since he arrived at Osaka with that task assigned to him, he been having this dream. Once may be a coincidence but twice is definitely a warning. That dream must be trying to tell him something.
