“Me too.” said the girl.
“May we go play now?” the boy asked eagerly.
Upon receiving approval from their parents the two children set if on their journey. They began racing up to the top of the mountain.
“Hurry up Yee! Hurry up!” The 6 year old boy yelled as he turned around to the 4 year old little girl who was trying to catch up with him.
“Wait for me Fung! Don’t go so fast!”
“Aiya, you’re so slow!” He ran back down to the little girl who had stopped to catch her breath.
“I’m not slow, you’re just fast!” She objected. The little boy took the hand of the little girl in to his and pulled her along quickly.
“We have to get to the top of the mountain. It’s really pretty there. My mommy and daddy took me there last time.”
“Wai, don’t go so fast!” she said between breaths.
“We’re here!” The boy said proudly.
“Wah, it’s so high up here, what if I fall?” She asked in a scared voice.
“Don’t worry, I won’t let anything happen to you.” He said as he gave her a comforting smile. “Look over there,” he said as he pointed out towards the city below them, “my daddy says that’s where we live.”
“Where?” the girl asked as she stood on he tippy toes and leaned her little body slightly forward, “I don’t see! Everything is so small from her.”
“Aiya, forget it” the boy said as he slapped his palm on his forehead and began shaking it. Then he noticed some flowers on the side. Fung picked them and handed them to Yee. “He these are for you.”
“Myolie smiled, “Thank you you.”
“It’s not thank you you, it’s just thank-you.”
“Oh I see, thanky!”
Once again Fung shook his head. He let out a sigh. They took a seat on the ground. “Yee I have something to tell you,” Fung said in a sadden voice.
“What is it?” Yee asked concernedly.
“My mommy told me that we’re moving soon.”
“You’re moving? You mean like to a new house?”
“No, we’re moving to Australia.”
“Where’s Aus-tr-al-li-a?” Yee asked
“My daddy says it really far away. You have to take a plane to get there”
“Do you have to go? Can’t you stay?”
Fung shook his head.
“So does this mean I’ll never see you again” Yee asked in a trembling voice as she was beginning to cry. Her tears were just flowing down her cheeks. Fung wiped away the tears with his hand.
“Don’t cry Yee....you won’t look pretty if you cry.”
Yee sniffled and tried to stop.
“I promise I’ll be back one day.”
“Really?” Yee’s face fit up.
“How about we make a deal.”
“A deal?”
“Yeah, a deal. 16 years from today we will meet back here.”
“You pinky promise?” Yee asked as she stuck out her small pinky.
“I promise.” Fung said as he hooked his pinky into hers and they shook on it.
