“Myo, you remember about next weekend, right?” Bosco asked.

“Of course, how could I forget! I can’t wait to see the children and the Gong Gongs (men 60 and over), and Por Pors (women over 60). I miss them so much. How long has it been since we’ve last gone?”

“Close to 4 months.”

“Has it really been that long? Man, I remember when we used to go every other week, then slowly it became every month, then every other month, and now…wah, its been so long, I bet the kids have grown so much! I need to get them presents.”

Leila and Raymond sat down at the table with them.

“What are you guys talking about?” Raymond asked. “You guys seem so happy and excited.”

“Yeah, I heard something about presents.” Leila added.

“We were just talking about volunteering this weekend at this village.” Myolie explained.

“What do you guys do there?” Leila asked.

“We help the older people check their blood pressure, eyesight, answer any of their questions, give them advice on over-the-counter medicine…and we play with the children.”

“Sounds like a lot of fun” Leila commented.

“Not to mention, “Yiou yee ye.” (has a lot of meaning). Raymond added.

“Do you mind if we tag along?” Raymond asked.

“The more the merrier.”

“It’ll be nice to have some extra help.”

“Myo Jei Jei! Bosco Gor Gor!” The children screamed

“Chai Chai, Sui Fan, Sui Bo, Gwong Jai!” Myolie cried as she waved her arms excitedly. “I’ve missed you guys so much!”

“We’ve missed you too!” They declared.

“You guys are so much taller,” Myolie said as she picked up Sui Fan, a 4 year old girl, “and a lot heavier. What have you been eating?” Myolie poked Sui Fan’s stomach.

Sui Fan giggled, “Myolie Jei Jei, who’s the cute Gor Gor?” Sui Fan whispered in Myolie’s ear. It made Myolie giggle.

“Myolie Jei Jei, who are these other two gor gor and jei jei?” the other children asked.

“This is Raymond Gor Gor, and Leila Jei Jei.” Myolie introduced.

“Gor Gor, Jei Jei, did you come to play with us too?” Sui Bo asked.

“Of course we’re here to play with you.” Raymond said as he patted Sui Bo’s head.

“We’ll play with you guys later when we’re finished with our work. We have to look at the gong gongs and por pors, okay.” Bosco told them. The kids nodded and ran off to play on their playground.

Then a young man waving his arm came running towards them, “Wai! Bosco, Myolie, long time no see!” He shouted from a distance. He finally stopped in front of the four of them.

“Chris, it’s so good to see you!” Myolie said as she gave him a hug.

“It’s good to see you guys too, have you guys really been that busy? It’s been 4 months since you last came.”

“Let’s not talk about that now, Chris, these are our friends Leila and Raymond. Guys, this is Chris Lai Lok Yi.”

“It’s nice to meet you guys.”

“Chris grew up in the village. He’s going to be the first doctor from this village. Soon enough when he finished up his residency, we won’t be needed here.” Bosco teased.

“Wai, making fun of me, la are you.”

“What are you standing around for? Aren’t you going to help us, Dr. Lai?” Bosco continued to kid around.

“Yeah, Yeah, let’s go grab a table and a couple of chairs from my house.”

“You house? That’s so far away.” Bosco pretended to complain. “We better hurry or else it’ll take us til tonight.”

“I’ll come help you guys.” Raymond joined.

Myolie and Leila began grabbing their stuff from the cars. Soon enough after they had set up the tables, two line formed in front of them.

“Por Por, your BP is very high, you need to watch what you eat, okay? Not too much fatty foods and more fruits and vegetables.” Leila advised. The old lady nodded.

“Dai Sook (man in 40-50’s), can I take a look at your leg? It looks infected.” Raymond said as he checked the cut. “I’m going to disinfect it first then apply some antiseptic cream on it.” Raymond finished off by wrapping the cut, “Make sure not to get it wet.”

“Gong Gong, you feel very warm, do you have a fever?” Myolie asked. “Let me check.” She placed the thermometer in his ear, “Looks like you do” She reached into the medical box, “Here’s some fever reducing medicine. Take two tablets every 8 hours, get lots of rest, drink lots of water, and you should be better in 2 days.”

“Thank you Dr.Wu.”

“I’ll see you next time Gong Gong.”

“Leung Bak, let me check your blood sugar…wah, you’re doing…”

“Is it bad, Dr. Wong? I’ve listened to you and cut back on my sweets already.”

“Don’t worry Leung Bak, I was saying that you’re doing much better. Keep it up.”

“Thank you Dr. Wong.”

“That was the last patient.” Chris announced.

“Great! Let’s go play with the kids.” Myolie said as they put everything away.

“You guys go ahead, I’ll meet back with you guys later. I want to go visit someone first.” Bosco told them.

Myolie nodded knowing when Bosco was going.

Myolie snuck up behind Gwong Jai and placed her hands over his eyes, “Guess who?” Myolie said in a deep low voice.

Gwong Jai pretended to think, “Ummm…Myolie Jei Jei.”

Myolie removed her hand and placed them on her hips, “Hey, how did you know?”

“Because your hands always smell really good” he answered her. It caused everyone to laugh.

“They do?” Myolie asked, sniffing her own hands. “For guessing right, I have a prize for you.” Myolie pulls out a wrapped rectangular box.”

Gwong Jai smiled, “Thank you Myolie Jei Jei.”

“What about us?” The other kids asked.

She pointed to a bag Raymond was holding. All the kids charged towards him. Leila, Myolie, Chris and Raymond handed out the presents. Then they played with the kids.

“Hey Myo, where can I find a bathroom?” Leila asked.

“Just walk up this road and you’ll see a store. Ask them if you can use their bathroom. If they tell you no, just say you’re here with us and they’ll let you use it.”

“Thanks, I’ll be right back.”

“Mah Mah (played by Law Lan), how are you doing? Is your arthritis alright?” Bosco asked.

The old woman nodded, “I’m doing good, I go do Tai Chi with the other old people every morning.”

Bosco got out his wallet and pulled out some money. He handed it to the woman, “Mah Mah, here’s some money for you to buy things.”

The woman pushed it away, “Chung Chak, why are you like this every time? I’ve told you many times I can’t take your money. You don’t have an obligation to take care of me. Nancy’s been go so long la…”

Bosco gave her a weak smile, “I do have a duty to take care of you. It’s the most I can do for Nancy.”

“Ah Chak, you have to let go, Nancy isn’t coming back…”

“Let’s not talk about this,”

“Okay, I won’t talk about that, well when are you going to meet another girlfriend?”

“So Mah Mah, have any of the Gong Gong’s here been asking you out?” Bosco joked.

“Ah Chak” The old woman said in a warning tone, “How dare you make fun of me like that.”

“Mah Mah, I bet you could attract many of the Gong Gong’s with your beauty.”

The woman gave Bosco a serious glare.

“Alright, I won’t say anymore.” Bosco zipped his lips.

“Where’s Hang Yee?” She asked.

“She’s playing with the kids. She’s such a big kid herself.”
