“How did you know I was here?” Bosco finally spoke up.
“Lucky guess…I couldn’t find you in your office so I figured I’d try here.”
“You must be a really lucky person I suppose.”
“I guess you could say that.” Leila gave him a small smile. “So do you mind telling me why you won’t do the surgery for Myolie.”
“I’d prefer not to talk about this.”
“I know Myolie’s you best friend and I don’t believe you’d let her die without even trying to save her first. That’s the last thing in the world you’d do.” She looked at Bosco and continued, “You’ve a well-known cardiologist and you’ve always been so confident in yourself when you do surgery, but what’s the problem this time? You’ve done plenty of surgery and they’ve all been a success. I know you must have some sort of reason for not wanting to do the surgery, what is it?”
“You sound like you really understand me or something.” He turned around and sat down. Leila followed sitting next to him, she remained quiet waiting to hear what Bosco had to say. He paused for a while. “I remember Myo once telling me that if anyone were to do the surgery for her, she’d want it to be me.”
“If I were her, I’d want it to be you too. Having my best friend do surgery for me would give me a sense of security. But I understand your standpoint too, I would feel a lot of pressure.”
“I know Myo wasn’t trying to put pressure on me when she told me. She was only trying to encourage me, but I’m afraid.”
“Afraid of what?”
“I’m afraid of losing Myo. History tends to repeat itself,” Bosco paused as he tried to hold back the tears that were forming in his eyes. “I don’t want it to happen again. I don’t want to have to go through the pain of losing someone I care about and love again. I don’t want to see Myo die in my hands. I don’t want to lose Myo the way I lost Stephy.”
“Stephy, that’s the name you called out last time we we’re at the beach. Is she your girl friend?” Leila asked.
Bosco shook his head “Stephy’s my sister. She’s 4 years younger than me, and coincidently she had the same rare heart disease as Myolie, just her case was more sever. Three years ago her heart became very weak, and she had to have surgery. We we’re really lucky at the time to find a heart that was suitable for her. I did the surgery for her, and all my surgery haven’t been a success like you said. It was a failure that time.” A tear escaped from Bosco’s eye.
“I’m really sorry to hear that.”
“The surgery was somewhat a success at first, but that night after surgery she had a fever and her system rejected the heart. If I had been more careful and not so careless I would have noticed sooner and maybe…I just don’t want to have to relive that pain again.”
“Bosco, if you don’t do the surgery for Myolie and try to save her then you’re just letting her die and you’ll still have to go through that pain again. You’re not even taking that chance that Myolie has to live. No one else here has the ability to do the surgery, if you don’t do the surgery when Myolie needs it then she’s already lost the battle.”
“You’re right, if I don’t do it, then Myo won’t have a chance at all.” He took in a deep breath and sighed, “Stephy would have told me the same thing if she were still alive. She was so optimistic and carefree. You really do remind me a lot of Stephy. That day at the beach, the way you skipped the rock, it looked just like her. I knew it couldn’t be her, but at that time I really wished it was her.”
Leila didn’t know what else to say. She just sat there with Bosco in silence.

“Fung, don’t leave me,” Myolie screamed as she tossed and turned fiercely, “No, don’t go!”
The sound of Myolie’s voice caused Raymond to wake up. He took her left hand into his right hand, and with his left hand he gently shook her shoulder “Myo, it’s alright it’s just a dream. He gently stroked her hair, “Myo, don’t worry it’s just a dream, I’m here for you.”
Myolie opened her eyes, and the first thing she saw was Raymond, “Fung,” she whispered to herself.
“Myolie, are you okay?” Raymond asked as he helped her sit up.
Myolie took a few deep breath and nodded, “I’m fine.”
“You scared me when you fainted.”
“I’m really sorry.”
“Don’t be silly, but why didn’t you tell us earlier about your heart?”
“It’s not a big deal, I’ve been fine for the past 5 years.”

Bosco looked at his watch, “It’s late, you should go get some rest.”
“What about you?”
“I want to sit here a little longer.”
Leila nodded and got up to leave. She took one last look at Bosco before opening the door. For the first time, Leila saw a different side of him. He didn’t have that goofy grin, but the serious look on his face.

Myolie looked at the clock hanging on the wall, “It’s almost 3:30 in the morning. You should go home and get some rest.”
Just then the door opened, “Myo, you’re awake.” Leila said as she walked in, “Are you feeling okay.”
Myolie nodded again and told them to go home.
Raymond didn’t want to, but Leila and Myolie convinced him, “Myolie needs her rest, we’ll come back tomorrow.”
Raymond agreed, “I’ll see you tomorrow Myo”
Once they were out of the room, “Bosco has his reason for not wanting to do the surgery.”
“Leila, I don’t care, he’d rather watch his best friend die and not save her…”
“It’s not like that, his sister had the same heart disease as Myo, and she died when he did surgery for her three years ago.” Raymond now felt bad for what he had thought earlier.

Raymond went home, he sat at his desk in his room, he picked up the pick of him as Yee. It was the last picture they took together they had taken it at the airport before he left.
“Yee, today when I saw Myolie faint and then laying in the hospital bed, I had this strange feeling.” He continued to talk to the picture, “I know I promise to wait for you and that I would only love you, but I think Myolie is the one…you will forgive me right Yee?” He ran his finger across the picture in the frame one last time. He slowly opened the drawer of his desk and placed the photo frame away securely. “Sorry Yee.” He whispered.

Around 6:30 the door opened again. Myolie slowly opened her eyes to see who it was.
“Hey, did I wake you.”
“No, I wasn’t really asleep. So it looks like you didn’t go home at all last night seeing how you’re still wearing your large cargo pants and a t-shirt. The doctor coat can’t hide it.” Myolie smile.
“I was in my office reading over some reports”
“So how is it?”
“I don’t really know Myo. Why didn’t you tell me earlier, when the pain came back? I saw you went to see another cardiologist twice already. Do you not trust me or something.” Bosco joked.
“I just didn’t want you to worry.”
“Like I’m not worried now.”
“So do you know when I’ll be able to leave the hospital?”
“I can’t find any problem with your heart at this point. You may have fainted due to some other reason. But to be on the safe side I do want you to stay in the hospital for awhile so I can run a few more tests.”
Myolie nodded understandingly, “Well you better go home and get some rest, you have to work in a few hours.” Myolie pretended to sniff him some, “and make sure you take a shower too.” She giggled.
“Get some rest okay Myo.” Bosco told her before leaving.

As Bosco was opening the door to his apartment, Leila opened the door of her apartment to leave.
“Hey, I was about to go get some breakfast, you want to come too?” Leila asked.
“Nah, I think I’ll pass. I going to take a shower and nap for a couple of hours before heading in to work.”
“Oh alright, I’ll see you later then. Bye.”

Bosco entered the hospital canteen to get a cup of coffee when someone stuck out a cup in front of him.
“I’m sorry about yesterday.” Raymond apologized, “Leila told me about your sister.”
“Don’t worry about it. I’ve already forgotten. You only did it because you care about Myo. And Leila’s right, I should do this surgery for Myo. If I don’t then I’m giving up before even fighting and that way Myo won’t even have a chance. I still have time to study cases and try to find out how to help Myolie.”
“And now you have Leila and my help as well. We're here to support you.”
