Carrying the cup of coffee in his hand, Bosco entered his office. He sat at his chair and noticed a white paper bag sitting on his desk. Unrolling the bag slowly he saw the content inside to be a sandwich. Shifting his eyesight he saw a post-it note above his computer screen.

It read:

I know you probably didn’t have breakfast this morning. I pick this up on my way. Remember to eat it, if not for yourself, do it for Myolie.

Leila

PS- Coffee isn’t good for your health. Have some orange juice. (Smiley face)

Bosco picked up the plastic bottle of orange juice and smile. He pushed his coffee to the side, and drank the orange juice instead. Finishing his breakfast, he sent Leila an e-mail.

Thanks for the sandwich. I’ll treat you to lunch tomorrow in return.

Bosco.

Myolie heard a knock on the door, “come in,” Raymond pushed the door and entered, ”hey Raymond.”

“Hey Myolie, feeling better?”

“Much better now.”

Raymond handed Myolie a bag. She pulled out the contents, “Magazines…”

“Yeah, I was worried you’d be bored so I brought you something to read.”

“Awww…that’s so thoughtful of you.”

“And” Raymond pulled out from his jacket pocket, “I brought my iPod for you. It has a variety of songs, I didn’t know what you like.”

Placing the headphone in her ear, “Wah, I like a lot of these songs.” Myolie said.

“I’m glad, and if you need anything else just tell me.”

“Thanks Raymond”

“For the next few weeks, Raymond, Leila, and Bosco were constantly visiting Myolie. Raymond the most, he’d visit during his breaks, before and after work. Each day he’d stay until real late, always insisting that he had to watch Myolie got to sleep before he left. Once he got home, he spent all his time reading medical books and searching on the internet on case studies and other information relating to Myolie’s heart disease. After all his research he probable had the same knowledge in that field of study as Bosco did.

“Myolie, I have some bad news.” Bosco told her.

“What is it? Is it my heart, did you find out what’s wrong?”

“That’s the problem, as far as I’m concern there’s nothing wrong, which makes me worried. I have no idea why you fainted.”

“So does this mean I can leave the hospital?” Myolie asked hopefully.

“Tomorrow. But I do want you to come for weekly check-ups and continue on your medication.”

“Yes, Dr. Wong” Myolie saluted him. “anything for you and as long as I can get out of the hospital.”

“Myo, it’s not like you’re going to get away from hospital. You work here.”

“Yeah, but it’s different. When I’m working, I’m a doctor helping other patients. Right now I’m a patient feeling so useless.”

“okay, just one more night here…”

“So Bosco and Leila have a surgery today?” Myolie pouted slightly as the stepped out of the elevator and approached her apartment.

“Yes Myolie, this it the 3rd time you’ve asked since we left the hospital.”

“I know, I’m sorry. Its just I thought Bosco would come pick me up…in the past he would have, and he claims to be my best friend, humph.”

“Awww, you have me, unless I’m not good enough,” Raymond gave her a sad look.

“Of course not. You’re the best.” Myolie finally opened the door. She flicked the light on.

“Surprise!” Leila shouted. It caused Myolie to jump a little.

“Wai! What did you do that for? That could have been bad for Myolie’s heart, you know!” Bosco scolded.

“Sorry la.”

Myolie looked at the festively decorated apartment, “You guys did all this for me?”

“Yup, it’s a ‘we’re glad you’re better’ and a ‘welcome home’ party.” Leila explained.

“We figured you’ve been bored to death staying at the hospital, so Raymond suggested we do this for you.” Bosco added.

Myolie hugged Raymond, “Thanks so much. Raymond.”

It left Raymond speechless at first. He only had silly smile on his face. Finally he managed to get out, “no problem, as long as you’re happy that’s all that matters.”

“Let dig in!” Leila exclaimed.

“Don’t eat all the food, little miss piggy.” Bosco joked.

“Hey!” Leila began chasing Bosco around the apartment trying to hit him, “I demand you to take that back!”

Leila knocked on the open door of Myolie’s room, Can I come in?” She asked.

“Myolie looked up, “Yeah, come on in.” she shifted her photo albums on her bed aside to make room for Leila.

Leila laid sideways across Myolie’s bed on her stomach, “What are you looking at?

“Just some old picture that I took with Bosco and Stephy…she’s…”

“Bosco’s sister”

“Yeah, how did you know? Bosco told you about Stephy?”

Leila nodded.

“Wow, it’s not often he talks about Stephy to other people.”

“Do you mind if I take a look at the pictures.”

“Go ahead” Myolie passed Leila the photo album.

Immediately Leial noticed it was the same girl in the picture she saw at Bosco’s apartment last time. “You guys must like going to the beach a lot.” Leila commented as she continued to flip through the endless pages of the three of them in swimsuits.

“It’s mainly Stephy and Bosco. Stephy was a wind surfer.”

“You guys must be really close.”

“Stephy was my best friend in the whole wide world. She and I were even better friends than Bosco and I are. I remember the first time meeting Stephy was in the hospital. It was the first time I was admitted into the hospital because my parents had discovered something wrong with my heart. I sat on my bed in the hospital crying that night wanting to go home. Then someone gentle tapped my shoulder. When I looked up, there she was” Myolie smiled as she remembered that day. “She handed me a tissue and comforte me. It’s hard to believe that a six year old who had been in the hospital for a year because of her heart disease could be so optimistic and be the one to cheer me up. From that day on we became best friends and through her I met Bosco. He came to visit Stephy each day. Soon we became the three musketeers.”

“Wow, I bet you guys had so much fun together.”

Myolie smiled, “ever since we were young, Bosco declared that he wanted to become a cardiologist so that he could save the two of us and many more people with heart problems….Bosco was really smart, he spent half the time it would take an average person to get through college and med school. But he still had to work really hard to get where he is, I remember him studying all the time and then spending so much extra time at the hospital just to get more experience. He really loved Stephy.”

“It must have been really hard for him when Stephy died.”

“He was devastated, he lost all confidence in himself at the time. He kept saying he was a failure. And just when he was starting to heal up from that wound it was like a cruel joke was being played on him. Not even a year after Stephy’s death, Bosco lost the love of his life.” Myolie wiped the tear from her eye.

“Myo, don’t be like this.”

Myolie picked up another photo album. She ran her finger across the first picture on the page. Leila could see it was a picture of Myolie, Stephy, and the other girl with short hair was the one she had seen in the picture with Bosco. In the picture the three girls were beating up Bosco., “I’m sure Bosco misses Stephy and Nancy as much as I do.”

Okay, so I know I said more happiness to come, but here I go bringing in Bosco's sad life again. Well at least half the chapter was happy...Leila buying Bosco breakfast and they had a party!!!

I'll try to update again later this afternoon. I'm going to go work on the chapter right now.
