Chapter 28

Sorry, It Didn't Mean Anything...Or Did It?

Bosco leaned in closer to Leila who had also moved in closer and they kissed.

When they broke apart, Bosco quickly looked away, “I’m really sorry…I…I don’t know what I was doing…” He apologizes.

Leila’s heart was crushed. She couldn’t believe her ears. She forced a smile and shrugged her shoulder, “It’s okay, and we’re adults. It was only a kiss, nothing else. It didn’t mean anything. Don’t worry about it.” Leila started the car and drove back to their apartment.

During the entire drive the two didn’t say a word. Leila pulled into the apartment complex, turned off the car and handed the keys back to Bosco.

Without looking at Bosco Leila opened the door and headed upstairs.

Entering her room, Leila threw herself onto her bed. She hugged he pillow and began to cry. “How come it turned out like this…did he not have feelings for me…he doesn’t like me…” Leila continued to cry until she fell asleep.

Bosco on the other hand was questioning himself, “Is it possible I’ve forgotten about Nancy already?”

He closed he eyes and tried to clear his mind. Opening them once again he answered himself, “No, Nancy is the only one I’ll ever love. No one can replace her.” He reminded himself firmly.

Was this the truth or was Bosco trying to convince himself to believe it was the truth. But if it was true then why did he kiss Leila.

“Why did I do it?...It just felt right at the moment…I just wasn’t thinking…”

The next few days Bosco and Leila managed to avoid seeing each other as much possible. The only times they met was because of work and they absolutely had not other choices. They both did what they could, including leaving earlier or staying later, just to minimize their chances of encountering. They took turn making excuses of not having dinner with Raymond and Myolie.

Bosco sat in his living room very bored one night. Not being able to think of anything to do and being fed up with staring at four walls he decided to go see if Myolie wanted to hang out with him.

He held his hand up ready to knock on the door when it opened. Bosco saw Raymond first and closely behind him was Myolie who had her arm linked with Raymond.

Bosco suddenly remembered, Raymond and Myolie are going out now. They are a couple, Myolie no longer had extra time to spend with him now. He could not come looking for his best friend whenever he got bored.

“You two going out?” Bosco asked.

Raymond smiled and asked, “Yeah, you want join us?”

“No, you guys go ahead, I was just coming over to uh…borrow a DVD…but actually I think I’ll go rent one.”

“Oh, hey, did you ask Leila if she wanted to have dinner with us?” Raymond asked Myolie. “I know she’s wanted to go try this restaurant.”

“No need, she not home. She’s having dinner with her friends.”

“One,” Raymond pointed to himself “two” he pointed to Myolie “three” he pointed to Bosco “We’re all here, I didn’t know she had other friends besides us.” Raymond joked.

Myolie slapped his arm, “That’s mean and you’re her best friend…”

“So Leila’s gone out with a friend?” Bosco asked casually

“Yeah, she told me she’s having dinner with her friend Samuel.”

“Samuel?” Both Raymond and Bosco exclaimed.

“You two know him.”

Bosco shook his head, but Raymond replied, “Yeah, Samuel roomed with me for three years in college.”

“So you know him pretty well…” Bosco asked.

“I guess you could say that, we didn’t talk much.”

“I thought you just said he roomed with you.” Myolie said confused by Raymond’s reply.

“He did and I found it weird at the time. He came to me and asked me if I needed a roommate. He offered to pay a majority of the rent, electricity and water.”

“Was he rich?”

“He comes from a pretty wealthy family. But the fact that I was studying pre-med and he was business major was the strange part. So I assumed he wanted an Asian roommate or someone studying in a different field so he wouldn’t be bothered…”

“Well what was his reason then?” Myolie asked. She was interested to find out.

“It was until much later that I found he liked Leila, and he knew she and I were good friends.”

“Did they used to be a couple?” Bosco asked.

“They went on a few dates, but it was nothing serious. Leila didn’t like him at the time. She was still too hurt from her previous relationship. Their dates were nothing more than friends going out to dinner.”

“So she didn’t like him.”

“No, but Samuel didn’t mind. He kept trying. I remember he even proposed to Leila before we left to come to Hong Kong. Of course Leila didn’t accept. I wonder if he’ll try again this time. Boy, chasing all the way from Australia to here.”

Myolie waved her hand in front of Bosco, “Hello…”

He snapped out of his thoughts, “You guys should get going to dinner.”

He walked back over to his apartment. Suddenly he started to think back to all the time he spent with Leila. Most of it of them bickering, but there was also the times they worked together to get Myolie and Raymond together.

He remembered the fashion show…the feelings he had then…and the kiss…

It was undeniable that he had feelings for Leila, right?

Did the kiss really mean nothing as Leila had said? He really didn’t understand what he was feeling. Letting out a sigh he decided to grab some dinner.

Driving around aimlessly, he found himself pulling his car up to a familiar restaurant. Getting out of his car Bosco began to wonder why he’d come here. Why this particular restaurant?

Stepping inside he was greeted and seated. It was the exact same table as last time.

“Hi, I’m Fiona, I’ll be your waitress for this evening. Can I get you anything to drink sir?”

Bosco looked up from the menu to the server, “Just water.”

“Hey I remember you! You’re the guy who got the cutest couple award. Where’s your girlfriend?”

Bosco didn’t know what to sat, “She’s”

The door opened causing Bosco and Fiona to look over. They saw a couple, “Isn’t that your girlfriend? Are you guys meeting together? I’ll go show her where you are.”

Bosco’s eyes followed as the hostess led Leila and Samuel to a table. “That won’t be necessary.”

“Oh, okay.” Fiona said in a confused tone. “Well I’ll be right back with your water.”

“Actually I’m not feeling too well. I think I need to go home and rest.” Bosco pulled out his wallet and handed Fiona some money for a tip, “Sorry about that.”

“No, I haven’t even done anything yet.”

Bosco smiled weakly at her and put his money away, “Well, maybe next time.”

Fiona nodded, “I hope you feel better.”

Bosco apologized again and got up and left.”

He had that same uncomfortable feeling again…
