Chapter 3

Hop On

Bosco was sitting in the yuen jurn’s (dean of the hospital) office.

“I’m sure you’ll enjoy working with Dr. Tong,” said the yuen jurn, “she’s a very nice young lady, very pretty. I think you’ll have fun with each other. That’s how young people are nowadays. They just get along together so well.”

“Chun Yuen Jurn, you’re still really young. You’re not old at all.”

“Dr. Wong you sure know how to talk.”

The two men laughed. Just then there was a knock at the door.

“It must be her,” said the yuen jurn, “Come in.”

“Sorry I’m late,” the girl apologized.

“It’s alright Dr. Tong” the yuen jurn told her.

Bosco got up from his seat and turned around to face doctor.

“Dr. Wong I’d like you to meet Dr. Tong” the yuen jurn introduced.

“YOU!” They both exclaimed.

“Do you two know each other?”

“NO.” They both replied at the same time.

“Well it looks like you two will get along very well.”

“Hello Dr. Tong, I’m Bosco Wong.”

“Nice to meet you Dr. Wong. My name is Leila.” While she shook his hand and gave him a death glare.

“Well we better go prepare for the surgery.”

Myolie sat there and watched as the sun set. “Fung, you’ll be back, right? I know you won’t forget out promise” She whispered to herself.

Raymond was also watching the sunset. He remembered back to a time when he and Yee were younger. They were in his backyard. Yee grabbed onto his arm excitedly, “Look over there Fung! It looks like a giant egg yolk!”

Raymond let out a chuckle to himself and shook his head in remembering Yee’s silliness. “I wonder what she’s like now” he let out a sigh, “We’ll meet again one day.”

As the sky had turned much darker Myolie decided she should probably get going before it was really late and she couldn’t see the path. She walked carefully, but something slippery caused her to slip and slide down the slope of another path. She tried to get up, but she had sprained her ankle, “HELP! HELP!” Myolie screamed desperately.

Raymond was getting ready to leave when her heard some noises. He started to walk closer to the voice. “HELP! HELP!” It was getting louder and louder...Raymond got out his flashlight and began shining it around. He headed towards the direction of the voice. Raymond hovered over the side, “Are you okay?” He asked

“No, I’ve sprained my ankle. I can’t get up” Myolie told him.

“Wait right there, I’ll be right back”

“Wai! Wai!,” Raymond was already gone. Myolie let out a sigh, “Great, it’s not like I can go anywhere anyways...I just hope he really comes back.”

After 15 minutes, Raymond finally returned. Myolie heard a lot of clinking and clanging, then she saw a rope dangle down next to her. Raymond slowly began to lower himself down, he repelled down slowly until her reached Myolie. He took a quick look at her ankle, nodded then began attaching a lot of different gear to Myolie.

“I think I’ll need to carry you back up.” He told her

“Ummm....okay...”Myolie answered feeling a bit unease.

“Just hang on to my shoulder. We’ll be up really soon, don’t worry.”

Myolie leaned onto Raymond’s back and wrapped her arm around his shoulder.

Raymond slowly climbed back up the hill side. He set Myolie down on the ground and took the gear off of her.

“We better get you to the hospital.”

So once again, Myolie was on Raymond’s back.

After walking down a small path for around 20 minutes they reached Raymond’s car.

“My car’s over there,” Raymond said as he pointed to a black SUV

“I didn’t know you could park here.” Myolie said in a surprise voice.

“Normally you can’t,” Raymond explained, “but I know the owner of the house up there,” he said as he pointed to a house up on the hill. “They’ve given me special permission to park here.”

“Oh, I see.”

Raymond opened the door to the passenger’s side of the car. He carefully set Myolie down in the seat. Myolie tried to make out Raymond’s features by the moonlight. Then her attention turned to Raymond’s white t-shirt.

“OMG!” She exclaimed as she put her hand to her mouth. “Did you get hurt?” she asked as she pointed to the chest area that was stained with something red.

Raymond looked at his shirt, he hadn’t felt any type of pain earlier. Then he looked at Myolie’s arm, “Ummm... it looks like you’re the one that’s hurt.” Raymond said as he pointed back to her arm.

Myolie stared down at her arm and realized the blood had come from her, “Gosh, I didn’t even feel it. I must have scraped it when I slid down.”

Raymond went to open his trunk. He grabbed a few thing and came back to Myolie. He took out a few cotton balls then he placed the first-aid kit on the roof of the car. He opened a bottle of water and began cleaning Myolie’s wound.

Myolie watched as Raymond gently wiped the cut. Raymond then looked in the first-aid kit for the gauze to dress the wound, but he realized he had used it all and hadn’t replaced it yet. He thought about what he could use, then he pulled out his handkerchief. He wrapped it around Myolie’s arm carefully. He seemed very professional.

“That should do until we get you to the hospital.”

“Did you use to be a boy scout.?” Myolie asked.

“How did you know?”

“The technique you used to wrap my arm with the handkerchief gave it away.”

“You’re really observant.” Raymond commented.

Raymond put everything away in the trunk and they headed to the hospital. It was really quiet in the car so Raymond decided to speak up, “So what were you doing up on the mountain so late?”

“I was watching the sunset. What about you?”

“I was waiting for someone, but she never came,”

“I’m sorry...”

“It’s okay, I know I’ll see her soon one day.”

Neither of them thought they were waiting for each other...

They arrived at the hospital. Raymond got out of the car and went to open the door on for Myolie.

“I’ll carry you in.” Raymond said

“Are you sure, you’ve carried me quite a lot already tonight...you sure you’re not tired? You could go in and get a wheelchair.”

“It’s really no big deal, I’m not tired. It would be quicker for me to just carry you in anyways.”

“Well I suppose that is true.” So Myolie got on Raymond’s back for the third time tonight.

They entered the hospital.

“Dr. Wu, are you okay?” asked one of the nurse.

Myolie nodded, “I’m fine, I sprained my ankle.”

“I’ll go get a doctor, umm...sir, if you could take Dr. Wu over there to that bed.”

“Sure, over there?” Raymond confirmed as he pointed to his left. Raymond carried

Myolie over and set her down. Now that they were in the well lit hospital Myolie finally saw Raymond’s face. She noted his tan skin and the warm smile he wore on his face.

“Thanks for all the help tonight.”

“It was no biggie. I’m glad I could help. So you’re a doctor here?”

“Yeah, I’m an ophthalmologist. What do you do?”

“I’m a neu...”

But before Raymond could finish, a male doctor came in and pulled the curtain close behind him, turning around he noticed it was Myolie.

“Wah!“ Dr. Wu what happened to you?”

“I’m okay, Hawick, I just slipped and fell. This gentleman here helped me though.”

“Wai, does Bosco know you’re here?”

“No,” Myolie said as she kept shaking her head, “Don’t tell him either, if he finds out then he’ll nag me for days, and he won’t let me go anywhere alone again.”

Right that second someone pulled the curtain open, “You got that right,” said the voice

Myolie looked up and saw Bosco standing in front of her with a stern look on his face.

“Look at this, I left you alone for a few hours and this happens to you!” Bosco scolded her.

“Wai, quiet down, we’re in a hospital.”

Hawick shook his head, “Hai, is there a moment you two don’t argue?”

Raymond’s phone rang so he stepped out to answer his phone, Myolie was too busy reasoning with Bosco to notice.

“Sir, I’m afraid you’ll have to take your call outside,” said one of the nurses who walked by.

Raymond understood and went outside to finish his call. After 10 minutes he went back to look for Myolie to make sure she was okay, but she was gone.

“Excuse me, do you know where the patient on that bed went?” Raymond asked a nurse he saw.

“What’s her name, I’ll check for you.”

Raymond rubbed his neck, “I’m not really sure what her name is...”

“I’m sorry sir, I don’t think I can help you.” The nurse apologized.

“It’s alright. Thank you though.” and so he left the hospital.
