Chapter 35

Don't Go, Please

“What!” both Myolie and Raymond exclaimed.

“I’m planning to go back to Australia.” Leila told them again.

“But why? Why all of a sudden the decision? Did something happen?” Raymond asked.

Leila shrugged her shoulders, “I miss home, my parents…just everything over there. Raymond, you know I haven’t gone back all these years. I think it’s about time I go back to visit. I need a change of environment.”

“But what about Bosco?” Myolie asked, “Does he know about this?”

“Does it really matter?” Leila asked nonchalantly.

“Of course it does, you two are going out. Leila, you know he cares about you. He loves you.”

“He doesn’t love me.” Leila replied as tears began form in her eyes and slowly rolling down her cheeks.

“What are you talking about, Leila?” Myolie asked. Tears began forming in her eyes as well, “Don’t say that, he does.” She didn’t want to see her two best friends like this. Not to mention, she didn’t want Bosco to lose another love.

“Myo, I heard it myself.”

Myolie shook her head, “No, he…he didn’t mean it. He…”

“That’s enough.” Leila screamed, then she softened her voice, “Look, Myolie, Raymond, I know you both care about me a lot, but I’ve already decided. No matter what you say, I’m not changing my mind.”

“Well when are you planning to leave?” Raymond asked.

“The day after tomorrow.”

“That soon!” Myolie exclaimed.

“I know it’s soon, but I want to leave as soon as possible.”

“How long will you be gone?”

“I don’t know yet. If things seem to go well over there, I just might not come back.”

Miki shook Bosco’s shoulder gently, “Bosco, wake up…”

Bosco slowly opened his eyes and looked around the bar, “Where’s everyone?” he asked.
Miki gave him a smile, “We’re closed la.”

“I’m sorry, I guess I should get going. I didn’t mean to keep you from closing.” He quickly got up from his seat.

Miki put her hand on Bosco’s shoulder and pushed him back down in his seat, “Sit la.” She handed him a cup, “Here drink this. It’ll make you feel better.”

“Thanks” he said as he took a sip of the drink.

“So do you care to talk about your problem?”

“Miki, I’m really confused. I don’t know if I love Leila or not. I’m worried that because of her resemblance to Stephy and Nancy that caused me to…I just don’t know if my feelings are true.”

“Let me ask you a question, what is the most important thing to you right now? Close you eyes and look in your heart for the answer.”

Bosco closed his eyes and thought really hard.

“This may be cheesy, but think about it, if the world was coming to an end, who would be the person you’d want to spend the last moments with?”

“I’d want to spend it with my friends and those I love.”

“And who would that be? And you have to be honest, right at this moment, who was the one you were thinking in your heart?”

“Leila…” Bosco let slip out.

Miki smiled, “Bosco, both Nancy and Stephy have died, you need to move on. Cherish the ones in your life now. Stop dwelling in the past. There’s no use looking back.”

Bosco smiled back at her, “Thanks Miki, I think I know what to do now.”

“Well what are you sitting here for, go do it!”

Leila slowly turned the doorknob. She wasn’t sure if he was home right now. Taking a deep breath she pushed the door open. No one was home. Leila went into Bosco’s room and started to pack her stuff. She began to take her clothes out from the dresser. Then her eye caught sight of something on his desk. It was the picture frame she brought with her when she moved in. She walked over and picked it up.

She smiled, “Cutest couple” she closed her eyes and brought the frame close to her body. Then opening her eyes again she set the frame back down and continued to pack her clothes.

Bosco came home, and when he pushed the door to his bedroom open he saw Leila pulling her clothes out, “Leila, what are you doing? Is something wrong? Where are you going?”

“I’m leaving.” She replied.

“Where are you going, did I do something wrong?”

Leila shook her head, “No, nothing’s wrong. I just want to go home.”

“You’re moving back in with Myolie…”

Leila shook her head again, “No, I mean I’m going back to my home in Australia.”

“What! No you can’t!” Bosco grabbed Leila’s arm to stop her from pulling more clothes out.

“Bosco I’ve already decide.” She pushed his arm off and closed the dresser. She grabbed her stuff and left, “I think it’s best we break-up” She said before walking out the door.

Bosco just stood there, he couldn’t believe what Leila had just said. After processing what had happen he got up and chased after her.

He went over to Myolie’s apartment and started to knock and ring the doorbell, “Leila! I know you’re in there. Open up, we need to talk!” There was no response. “Leila!” Bosco got out his phone and called Leila’s phone. Leila didn’t answer. He left.

Leila back was leaned against the door inside the apartment. She stood there biting on her lower lip to keep herself from crying.

She slowly walked over to the window. Watching as Bosco drove away Leila got out her phone, “Hello, Samuel. Do you think it’s possible for you to come pick me up?”

“Umm, sure. I’ll be there soon.”

The bellboy helped carry her bags inside the hotel room. They gave him a tip and he left.

“Thanks Samuel.”

“Is it really necessary to stay at a hotel? We leave tomorrow. Don’t you want to spend it with your friends?”

“I just don’t want to see Bosco.”

“You still love him don’t you?” Samuel asked

She didn’t answer.

“Leila…” Myolie said with tears.

“Don’t be like this Myo, I’ll miss you a lot too. I want to see you smiling.”

“How can I smile at a time like this?”

“You can always come visit me ma.” The two girls hugged.

“Leila, you make me look like such a bad son. I’ve been gone just as long as you have, but I haven’t gone back to visit at all.” Raymond joked trying to ease the mood.

“Don’t worry, I’ll tell auntie and uncle that you’ve found yourself a wonderful girlfriend. I’m sure they’ll understand.”

Samuel walked over, “Leila, it’s about time. We have to go.”

Leila nodded and gave Myolie and Raymond one last hug, “Well I guess this is goodbye”

“Take care.” Raymond told her.

“You’re not going to wait for Bosco?” Myolie asked. “I’m sure he’s coming.”

Leila shook her head, “Planes don’t wait ga, I have to go.” She waved bye to Myolie and Raymond as she and Samuel walked towards the departure gate.

“LEILA!” she heard him scream her name. She turned around to the voice.

Bosco ran over to her, “Leila, don’t go.”

Leila shook her head, “I have to.” She stepped on her tippy-toes and put one arm around his neck to give him a hug. Oh, how she wished time could freeze so that this moment would last forever, but alas she knew she’d have to let go. She parted away from him, but before going she gave him a small peck on the cheek, “Bye Bosco.” She put a weak smile on her face, “We’ll still be friends,”

Once again, she began to walk away with Samuel.

“Are you sure you want to go? It’s not too late to change you’re mind.” Samuel reminded her.

Leila nodded, and tears began to fall from her eyes.

Suddenly she felt someone grab her arm and spin her around. Bosco cupped Leila’s face in his two hands and he kissed her.

How sweet the kiss felt, but Leila pushed him away.

Bosco quickly got on one knee. He pulled a small box out from his pocket, “Leila, will you marry me?”
