Her breathing became heavier and slower. Seeing Myolie slow down Bosco began to make a run for it. He was worried about Myolie’s heart, but yet, he was convinced he was cursed. He was determined he had to leave. “I’m sorry” he whispered.
“Bosco wait!” Myolie called after. She tried to run, but instead she tripped and fell on the ground, “Ai ya” she screamed because she scraped her hand.
Bosco turned around and saw Myolie hurt. He quickly rushed back over to her, “Myo, are you okay?” He helped her up and led her to a chair. He took her hand to examine it, “Look at you, always so careless and clumsy.” He watched as Myolie’s breathing resumed to normal once again, “You know you should run like that….”
“I’m fine,” Myolie told him, “Look, you care about me and I know you care about Leila just as much and perhaps even more.”
Bosco stayed quiet and avoided eye contact with Myolie.
“Look at me Bosco,” he looked over slowly, “Promise me that you won’t leave. You just can’t, especially at a time like this, Leila needs your support. She needs you by her side. You’re not cursed, they were all accidents, and none of it’s your fault. Nancy’s death with an accident, and Stephy and I were born with our heart disease.”
Bosco nodded his head, “I know, but I’m scared something really will happen to Leila. Myo, I can’t afford to lose her too.”
“I know you’re scared, I’m scared too, but that doesn’t give you a reason to run away. Plus it’s only a girl’s privilege to get to run away, not a guy’s. Myolie joked. “So are you ready to go back? Leila needs you.”
Bosco took in a deep breath, “I’m ready. I will be by Leila’s side.”

“Leila, it’s time to wake up.” Bosco whispered softly through the glass. He watched as Raymond did a check up on Leila.
Raymond came out from the room and walked over to Bosco, “Don’t worry so much, I’ve just checked and Leila’s condition is stable now.”
“Do you know when she’ll wake up?” Bosco asked, not removing his eyes from Leila.
Raymond shook his head, “We don’t know yet. It’s really all up to her.” Raymond paused. “But there’s something you may want to be prepared to know.” He paused again. “Even if she does wake up, there’s a large chance that…”

Raymond went home. He slump his body onto the couch and let out a sigh. He couldn’t believe something like this would happen to his best friend. He just realized that life is so unpredictable, you really don’t know what will happen tomorrow.
He picked up the phone.
“Hello” he heard her answer softly.
“Hey, I didn’t wake you did I?” Raymond asked.
“No, I couldn’t sleep anyways.” Myolie answered. There was a long silence. “Did you call to tell me something?” she asked.
“Yeah, I just wanted you to know that I love you. After seeing the incident with Leila, I don’t know what may happen or what tomorrow will be like. So if anything were to happen to me, I’d want you to have known that I love you.”
“Raymond, don’t say things like that. Nothing will happen to you.”
“You never know...” Again there was silence, “But I promise I will do everything in my ability not to let anything happen to me.”
“You better not, you still have to take care of me mah.”
“I love you.” Raymond told Myolie again.
“I love you too.” Myolie whispered in a barely audible voice.

Bosco sat next to Leila’s bed. He held her hand. He thought about what Raymond told him.
*Flashback*
“Do you know when she’ll wake up?” Bosco asked, not removing his eyes from Leila.
Raymond shook his head, “We don’t know yet. It’s really all up to her.” Raymond paused. “But there’s something you may want to be prepared to know.” He paused again. “Even if she does wake up, there’s a large chance that she might have to spend the rest of her life in a wheelchair.”
*End of Flashback*
“No matter what happens I’ll always be by your side.”
Myolie came in, “Bosco, you’ve been here for a really long time. As much as Leila needs you by her side, you need to rest too.”
“I know, I want to stay a little longer.”
Myolie nodded and then Raymond also came in, “Hey guys, I need to do a check-up for Leila now.”
Raymond finished with the check-up and came out.
“Is she any better today?” Bosco asked.
Raymond nodded, “She is, the signals are much stronger now, and it looks like she may be waking up soon.”
Bosco’s face lit up, “Really?” Raymond nodded again.

“Dr.Wong!” Shirley yelled as she rushed out from Leila’s room.
Bosco and Myolie hurried towards her.
“Dr. Tong…she’s…” Shirley began, but was clearly out of breath.
“What’s wrong? What happened?” Bosco asked impatiently as he shook Shirley’s shoulders.
“Dr.Tong’s fingers moved, she’s woken up.”
Bosco and Myolie smiled as they rushed to Leila’s room.
As they approached closer they could hear screaming, things crashing loudly and glass breaking.
“Leila, calm down.” Raymond tried to sooth.
“HOW DO YOU EXPECT ME TO CALM DOWN? I CAN’T FEEL MY LEGS! I WON”T BE ABLE TO WALK!” Leila yelled harshly as she cried.
Bosco ran in, “Leila, I’m so glad that you’re awake now.” He hurried to her bedside only to be sopped by Leila throwing a glass at his feet.
“I DON’T WANT TO SEE ANY OF YOU! JUST GET OUT!”
“But Leila…”
“I SAID OUT!”
Myolie pulled on Bosco’s arm, “Bosco, come on, let Leila get some rest.”
Bosco didn’t want to leave, but Myolie and Raymond pulled him out of the room. They had to; it would have only made Leila’s condition worse if Bosco persisted to stay. They would just have to let her clam down first.
“We’ll come back tomorrow, Leila.” Myolie said.

Returning home that night Raymond felt quite distressed about Leila’s condition. Despite the fact that he was worried, he felt extremely tired. He had not gotten a decent night sleep since Leila’s accident. Throwing himself in bed, he was asleep in the matter of minutes.
Raymond rarely dreamed, but tonight seemed to be an exception. Indeed, he did have a dream, a strange one too.
“Yee!” Raymond cried out when he saw the small 4 year old girl he used to wish to be able to see all the time standing in front of him.
“Fung! Chase me ah!” she instructed. She began running.
He followed, “Wait for me, Yee!” It seemed as she ran she was growing and getting older.
Raymond picked up his speed for he wanted to see what she looked like now.
Finally she stopped. Raymond rushed forward and grabbed her arm.
“Fung, you finally found me la.” She turned around, but Raymond could not see her face. He had been woken up by his clock.
“Yee,” he whispered as he sat up.
He walked over to his desk and dug out the picture of him and Yee that he’d place away when he decided he liked Myolie. “Was that dream supposed to mean something?” Raymond wondered.
He looked at the picture for a moment longer and quickly returned it back to his desk.
