“Hey, welcome, here let me help you,” Myolie said as she took one of the suitcase from
Leila’s hand. “Do you have anymore stuff?”
“Yeah, my friend is helping me bring some of it up.”
The elevator door opened and a guy began carrying two boxes began walking out, “Leila! Some help maybe?” He hollered.
Myolie came out and asked, “Can I help you with anything?”
“If you could hold the elevator door open that would be great, thanks.”
The voice sounded familiar to Myolie, but she couldn’t remember from where...
“Ray, if you could, set those boxes in the apartment.” Leila told him.
After Raymond set down his box he was about to go out to help move some more stuff when he saw someone carrying two boxes.
“Let me help you.” he offered. He moved one of the boxes and set it down behind him while Myolie set the other box behind her. They turned around and faced each other.
“It’s you!” they said in unison.
Leila came in, “You two know each other?” she asked as she pointed back and forth between the two.
“Yeah, he helped me a few weeks back when I slid down a hill and sprained my ankle.” Myolie explained. “I wanted to thank you, I sent Bosco back down to find you after they moved me to a patient’s room, but he said he couldn’t fine you.”
“I went out to answer a phone call and when I came back I didn’t see you.” he told her, “Are you okay now?”
“Yup, all better, see,” Myolie jumped up and down to show him.
“I’m glad to see that, anyways I better go get the rest of your stuff”
“Thanks Ray” Leila said as she went to the door to grab some of her stuff in when the door across from Myolie’s apartment opened.
“Wai, moving in la?” The guy asked
Leila looked up, “YOU!!!.....YOU!!!!!” She said in shock. Myolie came to see what was going on. “He lives across from us?” Leila asked
“Umm....yeah...” Myolie said in a guilty tone, she didn’t mention to Leila that Bosco lived across from her.
Leila closed her eyes and stood there trying to process the fact. She opened her eyes again and looked at Bosco, who was leaning against his green door, in a pair of kakis shorts and a white t-shirt, with a cup of instant noodles in his hand.
“Wai, do you need any help?” he asked while stuffing some noodles in his mouth.
Leila ignored him and moved her stuff into the apartment. Raymond came out of the elevator again and this time he saw Bosco, “Doctor Wong you live here too?”
“Yeah, and call me Bosco, were not at work.” Bosco told him as he closed his door and followed Raymond into Myolie’s apartment.
“Bosco, stop eating that junk!” Myolie scolded him, “I’m about to cook dinner.”
“Great! I’m starving” Leila said.
“Ummm...” Myolie then realized that she didn’t really know Raymond’s name yet, “I’m sorry I don’t think we’ve officially introduced ourselves. I’m Myolie Wu.”
“Raymond Lam.”
“Would you like to stay for dinner Raymond?”
“Sure if it’s not too much of a bother.”
“Not a bother at all,” Bosco answered for Myolie.
“Hey! You act like this is your apartment huh? Maybe you should go cook dinner then.”
“If you want me to, but we might not be able to eat until midnight...”Bosco joked, “Plus that’s what you would have said anyways.”
“Well Raymond have a seat, it’ll be ready in about 30 minutes.”
“I’m going to go put away some of my stuff and I’ll come help you” Leila offered.
“Take your time, I can handle it by myself.” Myolie said as she headed to the kitchen.
Leila went to her room leaving Raymond and Bosco standing in the living room with nothing to do.
“Oh, I have something that might be of interest to you Dr. Lam.”
“If you don’t want me to call you Dr. Wong then don’t call me Dr. Lam either.”
“Okay, it’s over in my apartment, we can go over and get it now since dinner’s not ready yet.”
“Sure.”
“Myo, Ray and I are going to go over to my side. We’ll be back when dinner’s ready!” Bosco shouted as they headed out the door.
As Raymond stepped into Bosco’s apartment and noted the big contrast compared to Myolie’s apartment. Hers was much more girly and bright, yet gently. While his was dark, masculine and strong.
Bosco walked over to his desk in the far corner of his living room. Raymond followed him while still observing the rest of the apartment.
Bosco picked up a yellow manila envelope and handed it to Raymond, “Here, I think this information might help you with your upcoming surgery. My friend, who happens to be a neurologist, sent it to me by mistake. I had asked him for something else.”
“Thanks, I’ll look over it tonight.” Raymond said as something behind Bosco’s desk caught his eye, “You like rock climbing too?”
“Huh?” Bosco then looked around to see what Raymond could have possible saw to give him that idea. He then remember some of the camping, backpacking and rock climbing gear and equipment he kept in the corner behind his desk. He turned around a took a quick glimpse to confirm himself, “I’m not the fan, that’s all Myolie’s stuff.”
“Then why is it over here in your apartment instead of hers?” Raymond asked
“You see, Myolie’s parents don’t like her going rock climbing. They find it too dangerous for her. She would keep it in her apartment and bring it over before they come over, but her parents come once a month at the most unpredictable time and they never call ahead of time. So she has to hide it here all the time. Once we came so close to being busted. Myolie just go home from rock climbing that day and her parents came to see her at the exact time. Good thing I saw her downstairs, I had to pretend that I made Myolie carry the stuff for me...I don’t think they bought it though, so they always look around her apartment to make sure there’s nothing at all.”
“Oh I see, so they do a surprise check-up on her.”
“Exactly”
“But how do they know when she’s home if they don’t call first.”
“We’re convinced that the security guard downstairs is their spy.”
Both Bosco and Raymond burst out laughing.
“So you and Myolie have known each other for a really long time I suppose?”
“Yeah, it’s been almost 15 years. What about you and uh...Dr. Tong?”
“You mean Leila? I’ve known her since high school, then we went to college and med school together.”
“So how do you get along with her? She’s so...what’s the word...unreasonable.”
“That doesn’t sound like Leila at all. She usually gets along with almost everyone.”
“Apparently not”
Bosco had left his door open so Leila came in, she cleared her throat loudly, “He-hem,”
Raymond and Bosco turned towards her.
“Can I help you?” Bosco asked nicely
“Myolie said that dinner’s ready.”
The three of them headed back over to Myolie’s apartment.
“Smells good Myo!” Bosco said as they got seated around the table.
“I hope you guys like it. If my cooking’s bad, tell me.”
“The meal was great” Raymond complimented as he patted he stomach.
“I agree!” Bosco and Leila said at the same time, “Why are you copying me? STOP IT!”
“Actually come to think of it Myo, your dishes was lacking something...” Bosco pretended to think, “Ah! Did you remember to add rice wine like Chef Ben instructs on TV?” Bosco joked.
“Haha, very funny. If you make fun of me again you’ll never be allowed to come over for dinner.” She said as she poked him.
“Do you need any help cleaning up Myolie?” Raymond offered.
“No I got it.”
“Okay, well I guess I better get going. See you all at work tomorrow.” Raymond said as he got up from his seat, “Thanks for the meal, Myolie, I don’t remember when was the last time I had a home cooked meal. It was delicious”
“You’re welcome to come over anytime.”
“Don’t worry, I’ll be over even if you don’t invite me.”
“Well I’m leaving too Myo, I have some reports to finish.” Bosco said as he got up from his seat as well.
“Don’t work to late ah, or else you’ll look like a panda.” Myolie warned, “and I won’t
share my eye cream with you this time. You used half the tube last time”
“Aiya, don’t worry I won’t be up late.”
Both Bosco and Raymond left.
