Swirming and rolling in her bed was Leila Tong. She has been unemployed for one whole year now and she was determined to find herself a job.
Leila: is it morning already? I barely had a chance to sleep. (even though she slept for almost 12 hours)
Sek Sau: honey,I thought today you were going to go and find yourself a job since you obviously don't want to work in our restaurant.
Leila: Why in the world would I, Leila Tong want to work in a restaurant serving breakfast, lunch and dinner when I spent 4 years of my life in university?
Sek Sau: You never know, you could help me extend our business and we might become multi-millionaires!
Leila: keep dreaming dad, and what time is it?
Sek Sau: I don't know, but I'm pretty sure its almost lunchtime. So I better get going, good luck job hunting and remember when you leave please lock the door.
Leila: fine, fine, fine. I'll lock the door when I leave. And what time did you say it was again?
Sek Sau: (shaking his head because he just realized that with his daughter's attention span probably no one would hire her) IT'S TWELVE...NOON!!!!
Leila: (she jumps out of bed, slipped on her own pair of dirty socks and lands face first on the floor right in front of her dad) I thought I told you to wake me up at nine o’clock.
Sek Sau: I did but you said, one more minute, I promise so I decided to let you sleep. I didn’t know that your minute would last 3 hours. (He starts laughing, seeing his daughter on the floor struggling to get up and half asleep).
Leila: Its not funny, my job interview is at 2:00 pm and it’s already 12:00, how will I ever get ready on time?
Sek Sau starts walking towards the door to go down to his restaurant.
Sek Sau: honey, I’m leaving now, I already ironed your clothes for today and I left you something to eat on the counter. Remember to wash up and look at least half decent for your interview ok? And, remember to lock the door when you leave.
Leila: Thanks dad, you’re the best!
As she struggles to get up on her feet, her dad already left, slammed the door behind him and went down to his restaurant.
Finally, she was on her feet, heading to the bathroom to wash up and get ready, she sees the nicely ironed clothes left outside the bathroom for her. She smiled at it, thinking about how her dad has raised her ever since her mother passed away when she was only 5. Thinking about these sad memories, a tear trickled down her soft warm cheeks revealing her very sensitive and emotional side.
She went into the bathroom, washed up and headed towards the kitchen. Her father had left a note for her along with some food.
I know today is your interview, and you might not have heard me when I wished you good luck just 10 minutes ago. So, I wrote it down for you to see. GOOD LUCK! Sweetheart. And if you don’t get the job daddy will still be very proud of you because no matter what you’ll always be the best little daughter in my heart.
Even though Leila was no longer a little girl and was in her mid-twenties, her dad always treats her like his little princess.
It was exactly 1:00 and Leila decided to head out to work, remembering all that was written on her dad’s note. She left and slammed the door behind her.
Leila: did I forget something…hmmm…he told me to eat, get dressed, look half decent and what?
She stood there wondering about what she forgot to do, it felt important but she just couldn’t remember.
Leila: LOCK THE DOOR!! Right, that’s what dad told me to do, LOCK THE DOOR!
She ran back locked the door, checked it twice and ran downstairs and out of the building and onto the streets. By the time she got onto the streets she was breathless and it was 1:15. Her appointment was supposed to be at 2:00 and now it’s already 1:15.
