Chapter 9

When It All Falls Apart

Hello folks, this story has been on hiatus...and now...it's BACK!!! YAY!!! lol.

This is a pretty sad chapter...or so I would say...but it's up to you to decide...

==========================

Previously...

Two weeks had obviously gone by as quickly as possible and it was now Valentine’s Day. Ron apparently did not get anything for Leila, nothing at all.

He saw her from afar and walked over to her. At the sight of him she reached out her hand. Ron looked at her and looked at the ground before speaking.

Ron: I…I didn’t get you anything

Leila smiled: I know…

Ron: I barely have a quarter…what? You knew?

Leila nodded: Of course…but your love is all I want

Ron smiled at her: And I have so much of it to give to you
He embraced her at once.

Ron: I promise, that whatever happens, anything at all. I’ll always be there for you. Always.

He finally let go of her and looked into her eyes, ah, she was beautiful, more beautiful than ever before. He once again embraced her and kissed her passionately

Walking with her to the bus stop all he thought of was how stupid he was to not get her anything. How could he? She was the most wonderful woman he had ever laid eyes on and in a way he felt that she was too good for him. He felt that he should give her everything he could possibly give her...and at that moment the only thing possible for him to give...was his love.

Leila: Why aren’t you talking?

Ron: Because...I was thinking about stuff...

Leila: Are you feeling bad about not getting me anything? Because...it doesn’t matter...really, it doesn’t

Ron: Oh

Leila: So...

Ron: We have a psychology lecture tomorrow

Leila: Uh huh...

She suddenly stopped and looked at him

Ron: What’s wrong?

Leila: Nothing

Ron: Then why did you stop?

Leila: Cause I wanted to

Ron: Oh

Leila: Even when we’re together you reply to me with ‘oh.’ Why is that?

Ron: because I don’t know what else to say...

Leila: You can say whatever you want...

Ron: I...love you?

Leila giggled, and they continued walking to the bus stop. The bus stop was actually quite empty, and the bus wasn’t going to come for at least another 5 minutes. Standing there in the silence was always something difficult for Leila to do.

Leila: What should we name our children?

Ron: Our what?

Leila: you know...when we have kids...

Ron: But we haven’t even...

Leila: Had sex...I know...but still
Ron: Oh...

Leila: Let’s see...I’d want at least two kids since I’m an only child and always wanted a sibling...it would only make sense right?

Ron: Right

Leila: I think I’d like a girl and a boy...what do you think?

Ron: Sure

Leila looked at him in somewhat of an agitated way

Ron: What did I do now?

Leila: You know these kids we’re going to have, you’ll have a part in making them too, and you’re acting like you don’t care

Ron chuckled: You make it sound like we’re going to have kids tomorrow

Leila giggled: No...We have a psychology lecture tomorrow

Their conversation soon faded as the bus came. They got onto the bus and sat side by side, hand in hand. It was a usual thing for them to do so, unless, the bus was just too full.

Ron: I think I’ll get off at your stop today...and I’ll walk you home?

Leila: Sure...but...make sure no one sees you

Ron: Oh

Her stop finally came as they got off. Ron was now walking her home, holding her hand and thinking to himself how lucky he is to have her at that moment. Even if it was still winter, her presence warmed him up from the inside.

The end of February seemed to have somehow approached rapidly and they had less than 3 months before finals. March was a busy month for the both of them, papers to hand in, tests to write, and tutorials to attend. There was just so much that was going on...

Ron was now sitting in the library going over his notes, with his headphones in his ears. He felt someone yank one of the buds out and quickly turned around, hoping that it was Leila. To his disappointment, it was not.

Ron: hi...

Linda: Have you seen Leila?

Ron: No...I haven’t seen her all day...I thought that she would be with you...studying?

Linda giggled: I don’t always study

Ron: Oh

Linda: Do you know where she might be?

Ron: No...

Linda: Well...if you do see her...

Ron: Tell her that you were looking for her?

Linda: Sure

Ron: Oh...ok

She left as quickly as she came, but within a minute or so she returned and was now sitting right in front of him. He looked up from his notes...

Linda: Ron...

Ron: Ya?

Linda: Well...

Ron was waiting for her to continue her sentence...it was an oddly long pause

Linda: Leila told me how you were amazing with English...so...would you mind looking over this for me?

Ron: Oh

Linda: Is that a yes?

Ron: I guess

Linda: Ok thank you. I’ll leave this here with you then, when you’re done give it to Leila if you don’t see me.

Ron: Oh...ok

The rest of March seemed to have progressed in the same manner. Ron would be in the library busy reading over stuff, and once in a while would see Leila come by. He would embrace her; whisper sweet words in her ears then kiss her passionately. And when it was possible, he would take the bus with her. But the majority of the time while he sat in the library he would usually see Linda. Well, thinking about it, he knew from Leila that Linda was always in the library, one time he remembered joking around to Leila about how Linda must have made the library her second home.

It was now March 10th, the sky was gloomy and grey. Dark clouds seem to be above them all. These days being with Leila was more difficult than before, she was always so busy. One day after their psychology lecture, they walked out of the hall together, this time they were not hand in hand.

Leila holding her textbook: Do you think this would be on the exam?

Ron: I don’t know

Leila: That’s why I asked ‘do you think’

Ron: Maybe the concept of it might

Leila: Oh ok...

Ron: You’re going home now...right?

Leila: Ya...

Ron: Oh...how about I walk you home again?

Leila: Sure

They were now at the bus stop. Ron felt like something was wrong, nothing felt right and the way the sky looked didn’t help make things better at all. He reached his hand out and took a hold of her hand; again there was an odd feeling. It wasn’t like she didn’t want to hold his hand, but the way she held onto his hand just didn’t feel like how she held his hand before. He knew...something was wrong.

As the bus arrived, the two of them got on, took a seat side by side and just sat there until her stop came along.
Walking her home this time, almost felt like the last time that he would be able to do so. He heard the clouds’ thundering sound as they approached their ‘secret’ place.

Ron looked her in the eyes and saw that something was wrong. He didn’t know what though. He leaned in to kiss her, and she kissed him back, but it wasn’t a usual kiss. Finally she broke away from the kiss and started to speak...at this moment his heart sank...

Leila: I'm going to go now...

They parted their ways until...he heard her voice very faintly saying "you know..."

Ron immediately turned around and looked at her...this was the moment that pained him the most...

He looked at the beautiful angel that stood before him as she began to speak...he never once thought that angels were able to speak such words that would damage even the most purest of souls

Leila: Ron...let’s break up

Ron: Why?

Leila: I don’t know...I just don’t really want to be in a relationship anymore

Ron: Oh...

At this moment he felt terrible...he didn’t know what exactly he had done to lose her and it felt as though it was eating him from the inside out.

Leila: I still love you though

Ron: And I love you...

This time, she kissed him...but he knew it felt more like a goodbye kiss than anything. She started to walk away from him...

Leila: I still want to be together though...but just not...I don’t really know how to explain it

Ron: It’s ok...I get it...

Leila: Bye

After she left he stood there for the longest time, alone, looking at the people around him, the little kids having so much fun on their bicycles yet he was in pain. He decided not to take the bus back home, but to walk. As he walked...he felt something wet on his cheeks, trying to convince himself that it must be the rain...he continued to walk. But deep down he knew that that was in fact not the rain...but his tears. He was hurt; hurt by the woman he most loved and needed in his life. She was his everything, she helped him and changed him...and now...she somehow wanted to abandon him. He felt like one of those kids, left by their parents at the orphanage because he was unwanted...And as he continued to walk it rained, harder and harder. It almost felt like the rain was alcohol seeping through his wound, the permanent wounds on his heart.

The next day, going back to the university, he saw her and she seemed to have acted like she had said nothing the day before, and that everything was fine.

He felt that they were beginning to move farther apart rather than closer together. It was probably because of all the work that they had...but then that wouldn’t make sense.

There were two reasons why...the first being the fact that he personally had less work to do...since only two of his classes required a paper and the second being the fact that he noticed that his friendship with Linda had suddenly grown. They were strangers once upon a time, and now, one could say they became pretty good friends. At least they were always found in the library...and most of the time they would be looking over their notes. Well, it was more like Linda trying to explain something to Ron, but using a very scientific approach that almost made it seem more complicated than it originally was.

Some of these times though, Leila would be there, which made Ron speak a bit more than when she wouldn’t be there. He found himself lucky to be in the company of two very beautiful women, well, he continued to think that Leila was much more beautiful. As the saying goes, beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. But he knew...that he couldn’t have her much longer, he knew that it was impossible...and he was right.

The approach of the month of April was the most painful. He hoped and prayed that they could continue to be together...and his prayers were being answered during March...but April just was not the month for him.

He knew that she no longer wanted to be together, he felt himself being distanced away from her. And this all came true on April 15th. It was after yet another psychology lecture, when he tried to take a hold of her hand.

Ron: Do you want me to walk you home?

Leila: It’s ok

Ron: Oh

Leila: Ron...

They were now walking towards the bus stop, though they were walking together, they were distant from each other.

Ron: What is it?

Leila: You know...it's been a little more than a month now...

Ron: What do you mean?

He felt it coming...and he knew the pain that he would have to endure

Leila: When we had that talk...at our 'secret' place...

Ron: Oh

By this time...

Leila: Maybe...we should...

Ron: Please don't say it...

Leila took in a deep breath as she looked at him. The look on his face showed her how much pain he was going through...but she just couldn't...not tell him what she wanted...

Leila: But I have to Ron, it's better for the both of us...

Ron: But I love you, and you mean everything to me...

Leila: I'm sorry Ron...

His heart sank even further hearing the her words...that moment was going to come...

Leila: let's break up

Ron: But I thought we were broken up? (he trying to lighten the mood, out of desperation)

Leila: I know...but you know what I mean...

It was this look that she gave him, this look that broke his heart. He wanted her to be happy, and he knew the only way to make her happy was to give her what she wanted. This included making himself unhappy...

He leaned in and kissed her gently on the forehead for what he hoped was not the last time...

She slowly walked away from him as he stood there...wanting her back...and a tear trickled down his cheek as he walked away...
