Chapter 3

December 5, 2008

Perhaps, time is gold that there’s only one more day left before he leaves, before he leaves her and before she lives in worry about what might be happening to him. Ella wriggled free from the hand that was hugging her. She noticed that it was already day as the sun showered the car rays of light. Yes, they were too exhausted to even evacuate and drive home that’s why they stayed in, sulked and cried their hearts out just because he’ll be leaving tomorrow already.

“Chun,” Ella called out and ran a hand through his short, jet black hair, “I think it’s time for you to be waking up.” She shook him a couple more times before he sat up straight and noticed that they were still inside his car.

“Why are we here?” He asked Ella, turning his head a few inches to the right to be able to take in her full features.

“You were too exhausted that you slept,” Ella teased.

“So, where will we go?” Chun asked, completely reenergized from the deep slumber he just woke up from, “I have the whole day to be with you. Hmm, we’ll, I mean I’ll drop you off home first and then pick you up at 9:00. I’ll just wash up and change my outfit, yeah?”

“Can you not?” Ella tugged on his tee shirt, pleading with watery eyes. “The last time I checked, half of your clothes are still at my place.” She said, looking straight at the road as if she meant that she was hell as serious.

“It’s not like I’m never going to go back,” Chun laughed, trying to lighten the mood, but it only made her feel worst. “Okay, okay.” Without further ado and confirmations, he’s confirmed that she’s already feeling all irritated, so itchy.

--

Once again, they went to the mall. Ate, had fun and made memories through the camera lens and once it is again that Ella sees what she’s seen just yesterday. Something red and green, something that looked rather unique and splendid to the vision of any other who will be seeing it.

“You know, I really wonder what is inside.” Ella looked at Chun and then back at the red and green box, I suppose.

“I know you want it badly,” Chun looked back at her pleading eyes and there goes his answer as she nods and says that she wants it badly. “Let’s go see,” He intertwined his left hand with her right as he pulls her to the window slide display there is in that particular store where Ella saw the red and green box.

“It’s wonderful,” Ella’s eyes twinkled, her eyes glued on the red and green box. Just then, a woman walked towards the red and green box and made it sound by moving the handle near it. Indeed is it a musical box.

“It’s a musical box,” Chun smiled. “Let’s go inside.” He slid through the door with Ella and talked to the saleslady who just demonstrated how the red and green box worked.

Ella was mesmerized. The moment Chun started talking to her, she couldn’t reply, but could only look at the red and green box that caught her full attention.

“I’ll buy it for you if you’re willing to wait for me before the 25th, yeah?” Chun asked and turned to Ella, only to see her staring intently at the thing. He never knew she loved musical boxes or such. In fact, Ella was never like the other girls and that’s one of the reasons why he so much loves her. But then, once in a while, it isn’t that bad to see her sissy side. This may be the first time that he sees her girlfriend drooling over a musical box, but he doesn’t care. Anyway, he loves to see her happy.

“You know that I won’t get tired of waiting for you,” Ella nodded and gave Chun a peck on the cheek. Right after, she gave him her sweetest smile and pulled him out of the shop.

“Wait a minute,” Chun said. “You go first outside; this will only take me a few minutes.”

With that, Ella exited the store. Now, only she can see Chun from outside of the shop, talking to the saleslady. She didn’t feel a tinge of jealousy nor did she throw on a fit, for she knows that he won’t fall easily for other girls.

“Um, can I make a reserve for this musical box?” Chun turned to the saleslady who gave him a form to fill up, so that he would be able to get a reserve.

“Thank you,” With that, he exited the shop and once again intertwined his hands with Ella as soon as he found her, fidgeting back and forth of the shop they just went in on.

“Let’s go home,” Ella suggested, cupping her mouth with her other hand as she yawned.

“Yeah, you seem tired.” Chun nodded in agreement and pushed her to the parking lot with him trailing behind.

--

Ella woke up to the sounds of wheels gliding on the floor. She scratched her eyes with the back of her hand, ran a hand through her hair and sat up straight on Chun’s bed, only to find him packing already.

“Oh, you’re awake.” He greeted her and smiled as he sat at the edge of the bed.

She moved towards him a little bit and encircled her arms around his waist, “You’ll be leaving tomorrow already, I suppose.” She looked at the wall clock that approximately read 8:15 in the evening and pressed her cheek on his back, taking in the sweet scent of his sprayed perfume just a while ago.

“When I get back, you’ll get your Christmas present.” He turned around and faced her half sleepy and half awake face.

“I’ll help you pack,” She slowly withdrew her hands from his waist and stood up on the bed and crouched down a little just to get a pillow from the bed and throw it to him.

“Hey!” He exclaimed, only to be thrown another pillow. “I thought you’re going to help me?” He panted, dodging every pillow that she attempted to throw to his direction.

“You wish,” She stuck out her tongue and got back to bed and pulled on the covers over her face.

Little did he know is that she was silently crying. She was silently crying, because he is leaving tomorrow. And if you think that it’s so immature that she’s crying over that matter… Maybe it’s because this is the first time they’ll part for a thousand miles ever since their relationship started.
