She stepped out the cold winter night, trying to find means for her to find him yet again.
The ground and roofs of houses were all coated in white, every house filled with Christmas lights and kids merrily jumped from one house to another as they happily caroled.
Deep inside her, she felt so lost and fragile. He promised her that he’d be back before the 25th, yet where is he now? For God’s sake, it’s the night of the 24th already, yet he was no where to be found. She knew that he was earlier involved in a plane crash, but deep inside, she knew, she knew he’d be back.
Waiting for nothing, a strong, yet gentle wind encircled her, trying to brace all her fears away. Today, she wore the sweater and scarf he gave her last year for Christmas, especially knitted by his grandmother, making her feel his warmth. Feel the warmth of the man who actually gave it to her.
Senseless, she just let her body sway; to be able to lead her to somewhere she’d feel happy, even for just a little while, perhaps.
She ended up looking at the playground from the seesaw to the swing where she last laid her eyes on and imagined him there, waving at her to come closer.
“Chun!” She shouted and ran up the swing, only to find no one in particular there. Instead, she broke down on the swing to sit and cup her mouth as invisible tears trickled the sides of her cheeks. She was so lost; she needed to find him, for he is her only life. If she ever knew all this would happen, she would’ve not allowed him to go and retire or resign from his job and escape with her to who knows where.
“You said you’d come back, you said you won’t leave me.” She continuously repeated, staring to no where in particular.
She drifted off to space and started to reminisce every single moment they shared from the past. From the time she met her in this playground up to the time he swung her up high with joy, because he just confessed to her during the New Years’ Eve. She’ll never forget those times where in he used to show her those wacky expressions plastered on his face, those laughs he’d control and then burst out once he wasn’t able to control them.
Sadness got the best of her. She never pitied herself before, but this was just a different thing. She pitied herself for losing him and most especially pitied him for whatever may be happening to him right now. In the deep recesses of her memories though, he’ll forever be engraved and secured tightly in her heart.
The red and green symbol for Christmas for her is now gone. A familiarly sweet melody caught her attention, but she didn’t look back.
