"Are you alright?" Changmin saw JaeJoong's face thru the backview mirror.
JaeJoong's thick eyelashes flew up as he saw Changmin's face thru the mirror. "How long is this going to take?" he asked.
"These gatherings normally last for about 3 to 4 hours," Changmin responded.
"3 to 4 hours?!" JaeJoong shouted. "Yah, I don't have that much time!"
"You're not cinderella okay? Your hanbok won't turn into a rag if you stay out past midnight," Yunho shot back.
"Argh, I meant I don't have that much time for you guys! I have to go to my job!" JaeJoong answered.
"You have a job? Didn't you get fired last night?" Yunho laughed.
"Yah! I didn't get fired!" JaeJoong was getting louder with each word.
"Where is your new job?" Changmin interrupted. He knew that if Yunho kept talking JaeJoong would probably open the car door and jump out before they got to the party.
"My friend talked to his boss and they agreed to let me come sing at their cafe," JaeJoong was more calm with Changmin.
"When do you have to be there by?" Changmin asked.
"10," JaeJoong answered.
"It's 6:30 right now, we should be able to get out on time," Changmin confirmed.
"Ah, I'm relieved," JaeJoong sat back and let out a breath.
The three finally arrived at the restaurant that was reserved only for the company’s share holders and their families.
“You two should walk together, JaeJoong, I mean Han-Joong should hold Yunho’s arm,” Changmin told them as he gave his keys to the valet.
“No!” JaeJoong bluntly denied the request.
“Jae, I mean Han-Joong, this is not the time for you to argue with me. From this moment on everything is part of the test,” Changmin reminded him.
JaeJoong took in a breath and then let it out. His eyes blinked a couple of times as if he was trying to prepare himself for something. Then he turned to look at Yunho. “Shall we?” he said in his soft gentle voice with a smile.
Yunho was taken back by this response. He was sure that JaeJoong was going to start yelling at him or at Changmin again, but no. He turned into the ‘lady’ from earlier. Yunho just put his right elbow out automatically. JaeJoong’s left hand snaked around Yunho’s elbow with a smile. They walked up the steps to the entrance of the restaurant slowly. JaeJoong’s head was slightly nodded as if he was embarrassed to be holding onto Yunho’s arms.
“Wow,” Changmin stood frozen at the scene. “He’s really amazing,” he nodded in disbelief.
“Mr. Jung!” a voice came right away to greet Yunho, snapping him out of his stare at JaeJoong.
“Hello Mr. Lee,” Yunho gave a 90 degree bow to the older man.
“It’s so nice to see you again. And who is this lovely lady you have on your arms?” his voice was loud and clear. A voice that demanded attention, and indeed the whole room turned slightly to see who Mr. Lee was talking to.
“Yes, it’s so nice to see you again too. This is my friend Kim Han-Joong,” Yunho glanced over to JaeJoong as if asking for a confirmation.
“Ms. Kim Han-Joong, what a lovely name for a beautiful little lady,” he gave a little bow to JaeJoong.
“It’s nice to meet you, sir,” JaeJoong answered soflty with a 90 degree bow.
“Yunho, is she just a friend or something more?” he winked to Yunho. “How can you just be friends with such a beautiful flower like this?” he explained.
Yunho couldn’t help but laugh inside his head. JaeJoong on the other hand just clenched his teeth and forced a smile as he continued to keep his head slightly tilted as if embarrassed.
“Tell me Ms. Kim Han-Joong, how’d Yunho find such a beautiful lady like you? Maybe you can direct me too?” he chuckled.
“Pervert!” JaeJoong shouted in his head.
“Mr. Lee, hello!” Changmin came right in time.
“Changmin! There you are. Normally you’re the one walking next to Yunho when we have these meetings. I was starting to wonder if you two broke up,” Mr. Lee laughed.
“Mr. Lee sir, Yunho and I are just friends. If you keep saying that everyone will misunderstand us,” Changmin joked back. He nudged Yunho on the left arm to tell him to get out of there before Mr. Lee starts to ask anymore questions. The guy was known to be a chatter and wouldn’t keep his voice down or shut.
“Ah, Ms. Kim,” Mr. Lee called after JaeJoong and Yunho.
“Let them go, I wanted to talk to you about the Company’s new project in Busan,” Changmin pulled Mr. Lee in the other direction.
“I’ll see you around Ms. Kim,” he still shouted to JaeJoong.
“Oh my god! What have I gotten myself into!” JaeJoong let out in frustration as Yunho led them to the swimming pool outside where more people stood and talked.
“Beautiful flower?” Yunho laughed discretely with his hand over his mouth.
“Yah!” JaeJoong elbowed Yunho with his left elbow.
“Ugh!” Yunho let out. “You!”
“Oppa!” a voice came from the other side of the pool.
“Huh?” Yunho looked towards the voice. JaeJoong turned to look in surprise also.
“Oppa, I knew I saw you walk in!” the girl came up to Yunho and JaeJoong. “Oppa….. who is this?” she asked taking a look at JaeJoong.
“Miyoung, this is my friend Han-Joong,” he answered.
“A friend?” she asked.
“Han-Joong-ah, this is Miyoung, her father is also one of the share holders,” Yunho turned to JaeJoong.
“Nice to meet you Miyoung,” JaeJoong gave a little smile and a nod. “This must be the girl,” JaeJoong thought in his head.
“Oppa,” Miyoung totally ignored JaeJoong’s greeting. “When uncle and auntie told me you were bringing a friend, I thought it would be a guy friend. Plus I thought these get togethers were only for share holders and their families,” she rolled her eyes at JaeJoong.
“How rude!” JaeJoong shouted in his head.
Yunho glanced over to JaeJoong realizing that Miyoung had just brushed off JaeJoong’s greeting. “Han-Joong is a special friend to me, she’s no different than a family member,” he gave a sweet smile to JaeJoong.
“Special?” Miyoung gave a frown.
“Yunho-ah,” it was Mrs. Jung walking over quickly. “Your father is looking for you dear,” she came over. “Why hello again Han-Joong,” the mom greeted JaeJoong.
“Hello Mrs. Jung,” JaeJoong forced a little smile and gave her a 90 degree bow.
“I see you’ve all met, wonderful,” she bit her lower lip. “Well, Yunho-ah go see what your father wants and I’ll keep Miyoung and Han-Joong company for you,” she patted her son on his left arm.
Yunho turned to glance at JaeJoong as if asking for confirmation. “Are you going to be alright?
“I’ll be fine,” JaeJoong replied softly with a smile.
“I’ll be right back, alright?” Yunho was really worried. Worried that JaeJoong would get caught. He really didn’t want to embarrass himself and his parents at this party. It would cost them a lot of face. “Oh, why’d Changmin choose this big event to test him?” he thought in his head and wanted to punch Changmin.
“Go ahead dear, I’ll take care of Han-Joong,” the mom assured Yunho again.
Yunho nodded to his mom and then turned back to face JaeJoong.
“Go on,” JaeJoong finally let go of Yunho’s arm.
Yunho walked off towards the inside of the restaurant again.
“Han-Joong, would you like something to drink?” the mom asked with a smile that just looked fake to JaeJoong.
“Thank you,” JaeJoong answered with a little nod. “It’s a good thing I had 9 sisters that forced me to play dress up and act girly!” JaeJoong thought in his head.
“Miyoung-ah, do you want to take Han-Joong over to the table and get her a drink?” she turned to look at the girl who was ignoring JaeJoong’s presence.
“Me?” she answered.
Yunho’s mom nodded to her as a reply.
“This way,” Miyoung’s voice wasn’t inviting at all. She walked over to the drink table as JaeJoong followed her slowly.
“I don’t blame Yunho for not wanting to marry this girl,” JaeJoong thought in his head.
Miyoung got to the table and turned around. “What is your relationship with Oppa?” she asked bluntly.
“Excuse me?” JaeJoong answered.
“Don’t you know that I’m his fiancé?” she shot back angrily.
“Yunho didn’t tell me he had a fiancé,” JaeJoong still kept his cool.
“Well, we’re not officially engaged yet, but uncle and auntie have already talked about it to my parents. I believe they’re going to announce our engagement tonight,” she sneered.
“Oh, really?” JaeJoong couldn’t help but laugh at her in his head. “If only you knew that he’s willing to hire a guy to dress like a girl to get rid of you,” he laughed in his head.
“Yes, and auntie told me she’ll give all the company share to Oppa and me,” she added.
“I’m glad to hear that,” JaeJoong smiled.
“What kind of a person are you? Aren’t you angry that I’m his fiancé?” Miyoung hissed.
“You’re such an amateur,” JaeJoong said with a smile. “Why would I get angry? It’s obvious that he brought me here for a reason,” JaeJoong taunted her.
“What? You said Oppa brought you here for a reason?” Miyoung’s face obviously showed that she was angry. “Why did Oppa bring you here? What do you mean?” she hissed.
“All I know is that Yunho begged me to come with him. He said he wanted to introduce me to his parents and to the other share holders. You don’t understand what that means?” JaeJoong still had a smile on his face.
“That’s not true! Oppa can’t do that! Auntie and uncle won’t allow him to do that!” Miyoung was getting louder and louder.
“Can’t?” JaeJoong asked. “Where am I right now?” he smiled.
“You tricked Oppa didn’t you? You made Oppa bring you here somehow, didn’t you?” she hissed.
“How would I trick him? I’m just a shy little lady, I don’t have the will to trick him,” JaeJoong’s smile was always so perfect. He knew people hated when he smiled while he taunted them.
“You’re not a well mannered shy lady that you make yourself out to be!” Miyoung hissed. “You’re just trying to trap Oppa for his money!”
“At least I’m not forcing him by using his parents. You and I are really on different playing fields,” JaeJoong picked up a drink from the table and smiled at her sweetly. “Think about it,” he said and turned around to walk away.
Miyoung’s anger had shot up high. She could feel her whole head on fire. Her breathing had gotten louder and heavier. She looked at the lady walking away from her. Then her eyes dropped down to the swimming pool. A wicked smile came upon her face. “So you want to play huh?” She followed JaeJoong, walking at full speed. Right as she got up behind JaeJoong she pretended to trip and fall towards JaeJoong. Her hands came out to push JaeJoong towards the pool.
“Ahh,” JaeJoong let out as he felt himself being pushed.
“Watch out!” a hand came and grabbed JaeJoong’s right arm and pulled him back.
“Ahhhhh,” Miyoung screamed as the person in front of her disappeared and she instead fell towards the water.
SPLASH!
“Are you alright?” the man asked JaeJoong, his hand still on JaeJoong’s right arm.
“Yes, I’m fine, thank you,” JaeJoong gave a nod.
“Ahhhhh!” Miyoung screamed at the top of her lung in the pool.
Everyone had run out to see what the commotion was all about.
“JaeJoong!” Yunho’s mind screamed right when he heard the splash. He rushed out to the swimming pool, somewhat expecting JaeJoong in the pool.
“Han-Joong!” Changmin ran over cutting Yunho off at the corner of the pool. “Are you alright?” he asked.
“Yes, I’m alright,” JaeJoong nodded. “This man helped me,” JaeJoong looked over to him.
“Are you alright?” Yunho ran up to see JaeJoong.
JaeJoong nodded.
“Kangin,” Yunho looked at the man standing next to JaeJoong. His hand still holding onto JaeJoong’s arm.
