Charlene’s P.O.V
Charlene was still angry when she got to her fathers mansion. She didn’t want to be here. She wanted to be in America running her business and not get hurt or rejected. Her father got his own family now. She heard that Cecilia was pregnant. So he probably has a child now. She didn’t want to be an outsider in the family.
Charlene sighed when she got out of the limo not letting her driver open the door for her. She looked at her fathers’ huge mansion. It wasn’t as big as her mansion in America. She had to stop comparing. It didn’t sound nice. She made a mental note of that.
She went inside with her driver dragging her luggage. She saw people walking around not even noticing her. They were too busy with themselves. She didn’t even know anyone here. She got a little scared. It will be really hard facing her father. She wanted to liven her spirit a little.
‘Honey, I’m home!’ She called out in a cheery voice. Everyone stopped what they were doing and looked at her. Charlene just smiled. ‘Hello, snobs!’ She muttered to herself.
‘Charlene?’ Someone called out. She looked around to see her uncle Calvin.
‘The one and only!’ She went and hugged him. ‘Man, did I miss you!’
Someone came rushing down the stairs. ‘I thought I heard someone say Charlene?’ he looked at Charlene then at Calvin. Then back at Charlene. He ran to her to embrace into a hug. While doing that he pushed Calvin away.
‘I…I’m…suf…fur…cating.’ She tried to get the words out. He let her go but still had a firm grip around her, as though fearing that Charlene would go off. . ‘Someone sure missed me!’ She said with a grin.
‘Sure did, honey,’ her uncle Carl agreed.
‘So, where is the rest of the family of mines? Hiding?’ she didn’t want to sound mean but it came out that way.
‘They’re here around,’ her uncle Calvin answered ignoring her rude comment. ‘Look here comes my wife that you didn’t get to meet.’ A tall striking woman came down the stairs. She had blond hair. She was wearing jeans and top but looked like a model. She came and stood next to Calvin.
‘Honey. Who is this?’ She looked Charlene up and down. This was the second time someone did this. But Charlene didn’t get angry this time because the woman didn’t give her a dirty look.
‘This is Charlene, our niece. Charlene, this is my wife, Kelly.’ Charlene shook her hand with her aunt. She wasn’t going to hug a stranger.
In came another two women from, Charlene presumed, the kitchen. They were talking and laughing but soon stopped when they saw Charlene. One of the women looked at Carl with a dirty look when she saw him holding on another woman’s’ waist.
He let Charlene go immediately and rushed to stand beside her. Charlene thought that he was like a puppy going to his master. She didn’t expect him to drag the woman over to her for an introduction. The other women followed behind.
‘Grace,’ he said to his wife and then looked at the other woman. ‘Riana, I’d like to introduce you to our niece Charlene. You never met her because she was in America all these time. Plus she never came to our wedding because she had a very good excuse, right Charlene?’ he was looking at her with one eyebrow raised.
Avoiding his stare Charlene pretended she never got what he was implying. Instead she went over to her aunts to shake hands with them. ‘Nice to meet you at last,’ Charlene said to each one.
‘At last?’ Clark came in. He was eating, using his both hands. You would say that he hasn’t eaten for a day! ‘Last time I checked you wouldn’t keep in touch with us old guys!’
‘Urm…’ she was uneasy now. She didn’t want to hurt them. ‘Chase… He came down to stay for couple of weeks.’ She didn’t look at them.
Clark who was always the peace guy went ballistic. ‘What does that mean?’ He shouted. ‘You rather him visit you but when we wanted to come you didn’t want that!’
‘I’m so sorry,’ she started but he wouldn’t let her finish. Instead he walked upstairs dragging Riana with him. Charlene sighed. She knew this was coming. She knew she would hurt. But she didn’t let it show. She stopped dreaming about a happy family long ago when she left for America. She didn’t want to think about it now.
The others walked away as well. She sighed again. Everyone that was watching the whole scene went back to what they were doing. She was once again alone in the house. It was as if she was invisible.
Just then she heard laughter coming from outside. In came her uncle Chase with three guys she thought she’d never meet. And one guy she really missed.
