Chapter Thirty-Seven ‘Daisy’s Seduction’

Edison could not believe he was sitting here with his client, Mr. Kevin Lee from Lee Graphic Designs and his wife, Daphne. He felt disgusted with Daphne who by the way is flirting with him and is making him sick. The woman is old enough to be his mother! She was batting her eyes now and licking her lips. Eew! He looked away to his client. Kevin was either blind or knows his wife’s tactic because he sure hell wasn’t doing anything to help him from this situation.

He was still frustrated from this morning because he couldn’t decide if he loved Charlene or not. He didn’t know how another feels when they’re in love so that didn’t help at all.

‘…So I think that Chen Dot.Com International will be the best way to deal with my company… Mr. Chen?’ Kevin looked up to Edison who was in a daydream. Snapping back he looked at his client. He groaned inwardly realizing that he was still in the restaurant with the boring client and his granny-Barbie-doll wife.

‘If the deal is closed then…’ he let his voice trail off letting Kevin to finish.

‘Yes. We are proud to say that we are taking on Chen Dot.Com.’ You don’t sound proud! Edison muttered under his breath. One thing for sure was that he was happy that this was over and done with.

‘Then I’ll see you tomorrow morning to sign the papers?’ he stood up. Kevin, who looked like he wanted to stay on, forced himself to stand up along with Daphne who was moaning that she wanted to stay not leaving her eyes from him. It took some of his strength to stop from shivering. This woman was something or what with her too much foundation and bright pink leather trouser suit.

‘It is a pleasure doing business with you, Mr. Chen,’ both men shook their hands. Then Kevin and his wife took their time to leave. Edison assured them that he was going to take care of the bill.

He slumped down on the chair when he was sure that the Lee’s were gone. He didn’t feel like going home now. He paid the bill and stood to leave when someone blocked his view. He looked at that someone only to realize that it was no other than the one he had been avoiding all weekend and all day today. He got irritated that she was on his view.

‘Yes?’ he hissed.

‘Oh Edison! I knew I saw you when I came in,’ Daisy giggled flipping her hair. She placed a hand on his shoulder. He shrugged it off. Daisy hid her disappointment and tried another way. ‘Would you like to join me for a drink?’

‘No,’ he said plainly. Then, ‘no thank you.’

‘Oh come on,’ she protested. He got annoyed that she was actually protesting when he was being polite about it. ‘First you dump me now you won’t even have a drink for ol’ time sakes!’ she was pouting now. Great! Just what he wanted her emotional blackmailing him. But whom was she kidding! He never fell for that!

‘Sorry, next time?’ he said with a little sarcasm and walked around her.

‘But you promised,’ she whined childishly. ‘It’s my birthday and you promised we’ll go out for dinner to celebrate.’ He debated for a few seconds. Should he just have dinner with her after all he did promise or should he just leave it?

‘Okay,’ he gave up. Just a dinner nothing else, he muttered under his breath. What harm could it be?

He followed her out of the restaurant and into a cab. He pretended that he forgot his car not wanting to drive her anywhere. They stood next to the car she had to hail. She waited for him to open it for her but he just stared at her. She, frustrated, yanked the door open and slid inside. He went inside thinking, what’s wrong with her?

They rode in the taxi silently. He didn’t want to talk and she didn’t know what to say since every time she says something he would plainly say one word yes or no and that was all she would get out of him.

‘Here they come,’ Kenny whispered to Ruby not taking his eyes off the entrance. They were seated at the far end of the Daniels’ restaurant not wanting to be noticed by neither Edison nor Daisy.

‘I’m not blind, you know,’ Ruby whispered loudly.

He flapped his hands trying to shush her down. ‘Keep it low,’ he hissed.

‘Oh please! They can’t hear us from all the way from there!’ she hissed back, angrily.

‘Fine!’ he fished his phone out of his pocket and flipped it open. Dialing the number he waited. ‘Hello. Yes. Get ready for phase one. You’re up and good luck.’ With that he flicked the phone shut and smiled at Ruby.

They walked into Daniels’ restaurant and waited for the maitre d’ to come and escort them to their table. To his surprise it was Miriam, one of Charlene’s models.

She turned around and pretended to be surprised to see him. ‘Edison!’ she walked over just like she does in the catwalk and wrapped her arm around him. ‘Why didn’t you tell me you were coming?’ she kissed his both cheeks.

‘And I didn’t know you worked here too,’ he didn’t mind her kissing him. He was actually happy to see one of Charlene’s friends.

‘Oh, this is one off! Anyways back to work,’ she straightened herself and changed her voice to professional. ‘Welcome, I am your host tonight. Your table is occupied still, I’m sorry to inform. Would you mind waiting at the bar?’

Daisy was going to object but he spoke before she could utter anything. ‘It won’t be a problem.’ He gave her his dashing smile. Giving Daisy a one over dirty look, Miriam led them to the bar. They slid on the stools and she made her way back not before catching the bartenders eyes and mouthing ‘Good luck with phase two.’

Edison got himself comfortable on the stool and waited for the bartender. If he thought Miriam was a surprise then he was wrong. Vicki was the bartender. Vicki, one of Charlene’s models was a bartender?

Oh, great! Not another one! Daisy muttered.

‘Vicki what a pleasant surprise to see you here…working as a…bartender?’ he looked confused. Didn’t Charlene pay her enough? Then he dismissed the question. Of course that wasn’t the answer!

‘Daniels’ short on staff and we offered to help him,’ she simply answered and gave a what-else shrug.

‘Well… Can I get mineral water with lemon.’

‘Coming right up! And what can I get for you ma’am?’ If anyone knew Daisy they would not call her ma’am. It made her sound old. Daisy glared at Vicki. And that was what Vicki wanted to do get Daisy angry.

‘Martini with a twist,’ she hissed.

‘Sure thing ma’am,’ she said ‘ma’am’ again just for the sake of it.

Before Daisy could say anything to her she turned her back on her and prepared their drinks. Daisy was fuming angrily but Edison just ignored her. He looked around to see Rain. She was working as a waitress! Wow was he getting surprises one by one. What was happening? Did Daniel lose his staffs?

Rain gave a couple their order and turned around knowing that it was time for phase three. She put on a smile and acted to be surprise to see Edison who was looking at her with a frown. She walked over still with the smile plastered on her face.

‘Hello!’ she put on a posh accent. ‘What are you doing here?’

‘Well…’ he looked uncomfortable trying to introduce Daisy. He didn’t want to introduce her! ‘I’m here with Daisy.’ Then added not to be misunderstood, ‘it’s her birthday and we’re celebrating!’

‘Oh,’ she looked at Daisy who gave her a glare. ‘Sorry I didn’t see you there,’ she said to Daisy. She then turned her attention to Edison. ‘You must be missing Charlene, am I right?’ she giggled thinking it was cute.

‘Yeah!’ he sighed thinking of her. ‘A lot,’ he muttered.

‘Wei, don’t worry she’ll be back soon!’ she patted his shoulder with sympathy. ‘She’s probably missing you as well!’ She let out another giggle.

‘I wouldn’t think so,’ Daisy hissed at Rain. ‘She’s got Shawn to keep her company!’

‘Shawn’s just a friend!’ he defended Charlene. ‘I trust Charlene.’

‘Whatever!’ she turned her back to Rain and sipped her drink that just has been place on the bar.

‘So, how’s you?’ he changed the subject. He waved his hand implying what was she doing here?

‘I’m fine. I’m just helping out Daniel. The staff caught this bug and it spread around.’

‘Oh, right.’ Rain then excused herself and went back to work.

Edison’s back was still turned from the bar. Daisy thought this was her chance. She got a tiny bottle from her small evening bag and she poured the drug in there. She had one more in her bag just in case. She smiled evilly thinking this is going to work just like last time. She was excited. The last time she made sure that they got caught with both their parents. She knew that he would have to marry her when his parents saw him all embarrassed. They didn’t want to lose their face so they agreed that he would have to marry her. Her plan had worked before it will work again.

Edison didn’t want to turn around. If he did then he will have to look at Daisy. He then has to talk to her. Every time he looks at her that night would come hunting back. He couldn’t remember. It was a vague memory to him. But one thing he remembered was his parents face when they saw him on top of Daisy half naked. He couldn’t remember what happened, if he had done it with her or not. She wouldn’t tell him which annoyed him. He wished he never met her but his parents had forced him to meet her.

‘Edison?’ he was bought back to reality with her voice. How he wished it were Charlene’s. He felt Daisy’s hand oh his thigh.

‘Yes?’ he forced himself to look at her taking her hand off his but it only made her slide it higher.

‘Your drinks here,’ she looked at him batting her lashes. He felt that she was up to something. If she was seducing him – and he prayed that she wasn’t – then it wasn’t working.

‘Thanks,’ he muttered. He rotated around on the stood to face the front; this made her hands slip off his thigh. He looked at his mineral water. He picked it up and raised it to his lips. He felt someone’s eyes on him. Glass still raised he looked annoyingly and Daisy. She was puckering her lips together as if she was going to kiss him. ‘Yes?’ he asked moving his face as far away from her just incase.

‘Nothing,’ she looked away muttering something he couldn’t hear. He shook his head thinking she was acting strange. He tilted his glass to his lips…
