Chapter Fifty Two ‘Trying To Help P2’
Jay was avoiding her like the plaque. Now how would she help him if his hiding? The party’s over and after a long night and a little amount of sleep she found herself on the patio having breakfast with his family except this time there was no Jay and Louis was there.
‘Where’s Jay?’ she whispered to Edison.
‘He had to go pop at work. Something went wrong,’ he whispered back.
‘O,’ Charlene said not convinced that was why he went. ‘When is he coming back?’
‘I have no idea,’ he whispered.
‘Why are you two whispering about?’ Michelle teased. ‘We want to hear as well.’
‘I was just asking what we have planned today,’ she made up.
‘Louis and I are going on a ferry ride. Mom and Dad will be joining as well. Would you two like to join us?’ Michelle suggested.
‘Urm…’ Charlene had to think. She wanted to help Jay first but she can’t if he keeps running away from her. ‘What do you think, Edison?’
All eyes were on Edison. He thought for a moment not knowing what to say. ‘We don’t have anything planned so why not?’ he gave his answer.
‘I’ll have to tell Jay that he will have the house to himself,’ Mrs. Chen noted.
‘Why not let him come as well?’ Charlene suggested hoping that they will agree.
‘Yeah, what will he do at home,’ Michelle approved with her.
‘Okay, then that’s settled I’ll tell him when he comes back,’ Mrs. Chen decided it’s not like she had any choice in the matter.
‘Great!’ Charlene said loudly making everyone stare at her weirdly.
‘Char, doesn’t like to keep anyone behind,’ Edison told them. They carried on with their breakfast.
At lunch everyone was ready to leave for the ferry. Jay didn’t seem happy with the idea. Charlene just smiled. They drove to the point separately. She drove with Edison.
‘So what have you got planned for Jay?’ he asked, curiously.
‘I don’t know yet,’ she admitted. ‘I’m going to go with the flow.’
He just gave her an if-you-say-so look and then went back to his driving. They got to the pier twenty minutes later and waited for the others since Edison drove fast. ‘Good luck with my brother,’ Edison said smiling. ‘But I’m betting that you won’t be able to help him!’
‘What do you bet on,’ she said eyeing him.
‘I get to flirt with you all day long and you can’t do anything about it,’ he smiled.
‘The bets on, Honey,’ she slyly said. He had the feeling he made a mistake and couldn’t help but ask what she was betting on. ‘You have to be my slave for a day and I choose which day.’
‘Are you saying that in a kinky way or in an innocent way,’ he frowned.
Charlene went red than smacked his arm. ‘What do you think?’
‘Sor-ry!’ he rubbed his arm. Cars pulled by near them. His family got out of the cars. ‘Just to let you know,’ Edison whispered as they looked at his family coming towards them. ‘I’m going to make it hard for you.’
Charlene was going to say what he meant but his family had come. They walked to the ferry with Edison and Jay at the front. Charlene knew he was taking Jay away from her. At the ferry they were shown to their cabin. Charlene was sharing hers with Michelle.
‘I’m so glad you’re going to be my sister-in-law,’ Michelle said when they were unpacking.
‘And I’m glad I got the better of you,’ she said.
‘I still want to apologize for what ever I said back at the house,’ Michelle guiltily said.
‘You’re forgiven,’ she declared. ‘Does Jay have a girlfriend?’ she then asked.
Michelle shook her head. ‘Not that I know of. Why?’
‘No reason,’ she quickly changed the subject. ‘What’s the plan tonight?’
‘There are loads of activities to do,’ Michelle came and sat next to her holding a paper on her hand. ‘Here’s the Rota. The guys are going to do scuba diving and the girls – well we’re going to sun bathe,’ she laughed as if that’s what all girls do.
Charlene had and idea of how to get to Jay. ‘I was hoping I would do scuba diving as well,’ she held her breath.
‘Of course you could. I bet you don’t want to be away from Edison,’ Michelle said sighing.
‘So, when is it?’ They looked at the time table. ‘Oh, no, it started already,’ she moaned.
‘Don’t worry, I’m sure they won’t mind,’ Michelle assured her.
She was glad she wore her swim suit she had to borrow from Michelle. To her dismay it was a two-piece. She ran out of the cabin and went up to the dock were the guys were boarding a small boat. She rushed to the boat and made it for a second.
‘Char!’ Edison gasped.
‘Aww, look at that the love couple can’t stay away from each other,’ cooed Louis. Everyone else just stared at her, shocked that a woman was taking part. Charlene just took that as her way in. She ran to Edison and hugged him tightly. He tugged himself free and looked at her questioningly.
‘What are you doing here?’ he whispered.
‘I want to go where you go,’ she innocently said, batting her eyes.
‘Aren’t you taking this a bit too extreme?’ he asked. ‘I mean do you know how to scuba dive?’ She hadn’t thought about that. She didn’t know how to scuba dive! What is she going to do?
‘Erm… of course I can,’ she wryly lied. ‘How hard can it be?’
She wished she hadn’t come, she thought to her self ten minutes later were one by one the guys were diving into the sea. She wasn’t a good of a swimmer. Yes she can swim but not that good.
‘Are you okay?’ Edison asked concerned.
‘Great,’ she muttered as the last one was Jay that dived in.
‘Come on then. If you want you can stick with me,’ he offered. He put on his gear. ‘Did I say that you have a great body?’ with that he fell backwards to the sea before she could say anything. She prayed to God to survive this and dived in after him, whimpering all the way.
Under the sea she saw fishes, big, small, fat, skinny, and colorful and many different ones but she couldn’t see Edison. Stick with me my ass, she muttered. She swam looking for him. She spotted Jay swimming with Louis and swam to them. She waved at them. They waved back. After all they can’t talk. They have to do signs to communicate which wasn’t much of a help because if one tried the other one didn’t understand and when the other one tried the other one didn’t understand. At the end they swam together even though Jay was a bit grumpy about the idea. He kept looking at her as if she was going to bite him.
Less than an hour later she re-emerged to the surface with Jay. Both she and Jay had lost site of Louis. They climbed on the boat quietly. Jay avoided meeting her eyes. He pretended he was busy putting his scuba kit away as slowly as he could.
‘So… Jay finally we’re alone,’ she purred, coming and sitting next to him. The boat driver looked at her funnily but she just winked at her laughingly. The driver quickly turned around not wanting to be part of it. ‘The last time Edison interrupted us,’ she continued.
‘Uh… Urm…’
‘What is it honey? You could say anything you want,’ she offered him. She licked her lips and moved closer to him. He gulped loudly. ‘I know you want me,’ she stated.
‘No,’ he squeaked then cleared his throat. ‘I mean, no I didn’t,’ this time his voice was masculine. ‘You’re my bro’s gal and you’re getting married to!’
‘So? Like I said before what he doesn’t know won’t hurt him.’
‘My gosh woman!’ he roared in disgust all his shyness gone. He was angry now. ‘You disgraceful little bitch!’
‘Oh! So it’s okay for you to flirt with me but when it comes to me you’re calling me names,’ she accused.
‘Whatever woman,’ he dismissed that. ‘I was only testing you and guess what? You passed with flying colors. You are deceiving, two-timing hoe!’
She wasn’t at all upset at what he was calling her. She didn’t even mind. ‘You act as if you’re a virgin!’ she spat out. There was silence all around. Only the sea waves can be heard. From pretending to be angry her face expression changed to shock. He was actually a virgin! ‘You are a virgin!’ she shrieked. The driver turned her head but when she looked at her she quickly turned back around.
Jay was lost at words. He too was shocked for being that transparent. His face turned all red. He glanced at the driver who was pretending she hasn’t heard a thing.
‘Man, I thought you were gay but a virgin? Wow,’ she carried on making him go redder.
‘Listen here,’ he hissed. ‘This better not go anywhere.’ Then he said, ‘And why would you think I’m gay?’
‘When I was flirting back at you the last time you were like not even turned on. More like scared.’
‘Well, it’s not my fault that I wasn’t prepared for that. I actually believed that you were in love with my brother and I didn’t have anything to worry about. You didn’t seem anything like that witch Daisy.’
‘And I’m not,’ she interrupted. ‘It was all a pretend,’ she began explaining but Louis emerged from the sea and she couldn’t carry on. It’s not like she would have been able to because Jay was giving her a cold shoulder. One by one the rest came up Edison was the last one. ‘Stick with me, eh?’ she told him sarcastically.
He gave her a blank look then he got what she meant. ‘Oh you mean that!’ he said.
‘Oh I mean that!’ she mocked him.
‘Well, sorry hon,’ he was guilty. ‘I thought you were behind me.’
‘Just to let you know I will never believe you when you say that next time,’ she declared.
‘I said I was sorry,’ he moaned knowing she was angry with him. She looked away. He shifted his position so she can see him give her a puppy look. She turned her head away. ‘I’ll buy you an ice-cream when we get back if you want,’ he tried bribing her.
Her face beamed. ‘That will do,’ she said happily and kissed him on his cheek. He laughed and took her in his arm.
Both of them didn’t notice the look Jay was giving behind. He frowned. They looked like a loving couple that was totally in love with each other. Was she really pretending with him? He thought. He didn’t know if he could believe her after the way Daisy was with him. She thought if nothing goes with Edison she can try with him. After all Edison hated her. He looked away when Charlene glanced his way.
