Maybe things didn’t go so well with Jay, Charlene thought. Maybe she made a mistake flirting with him. She was confused. She really thought he was gay.
‘Char,’ Michelle waved her hands in front of her face snapping her out of her thoughts.
‘Sorry, what was that,’ she said realizing that Michelle had been talking to her. They were at the cabin getting ready for party that will be taking part on the ship. Michelle was excited. At the other hand Charlene wasn’t. She was trying to figure out how to help Jay.
‘I was saying that if you noticed any tan on me,’ Michelle repeated herself clearly she was disappointed that she wasn’t being heard.
‘I did kinda think something was different with you when you came in the cabin,’ Charlene lied, she didn’t want Michelle moaning. Michelle didn’t tan a bit.
Michelle screamed happily. ‘I knew it! And mother says I didn’t,’ she muttered.
‘Okay,’ Charlene moved her attention back to Jay. He didn’t seem that bad of a person. Correction, he was a great person. The way he let his shyness go for his brothers’ sake she thought that was the coolest thing he had done.
‘You know,’ Michelle said. ‘That brother of mind needs to learn some manners.’
‘Edison has manners,’ Charlene automatically defended her fiance.
‘Not Edison,’ Michelle laughed. ‘I mean Jay. The way he has been acting with you all the way here, I would have thought he’ll warm up to you since you are a really nice person.’
‘I don’t think your bro trusts me,’ Charlene admitted.
‘He doesn’t trust any girls,’ Michelle corrected her. Then she went to explaining why. ‘Three year ago he was in love with this model. She played with his feeling and left him broken hearted and hating women.’
‘What could she have possibly done to hurt him that much?’ Charlene asked worriedly. Maybe this time she won’t be able to help someone. Her confident was going down the drain as Michelle carried on.
‘She was forced to date him,’ Michelle sighed as the past ran through her mind like a movie. ‘Jay had never been in love so he didn’t know how to treat women. He was a player until he met her. She changed his life forever. At first I thought she was the best thing that happened to him, but when she started making up excuses not to see him I knew something was wrong. Jay was being restless. He keeps trying to find out why she wouldn’t see him.’
‘Let me guess, there was a boyfriend involved?’ Charlene interupted.
‘That’s a mistery to me,’ Michelle said. She frowned. ‘There was no guy anywhere near her even after they broken up.’
‘She could have been hiding him,’ she enquired.
‘Maybe,’ Michelle paused. ‘Jay was devestated when she asked to break up. He wouldn’t hear of it. He didn’t think there was anything was wrong with their relationship. I even thought there was nothing wrong. It just came out of the blue. She came down the house after few days after she said that and started screaming at him and my family, from cursing to blaming us.’
‘About what?’ Charlene asked. She was gripped into the story.
‘That’s what I want to know,’ Michelle said. ‘I didn’t understand anything she was saying. She then said that she never wanted to date Jay in the first place, that it was a torture to her every second spending time with him. She said that all she wanted was his money and her friends made her go out with him because they wanted their half too.’
‘Omg!’ Charlene gasped. ‘What an evil bitch! Who the hell is she?’ she was getting all worked up over this, anger rising.
‘Selina Lai.’ Her anger died when Michelle said the name. Could she have heard wrong? She thought.
‘I’m sorry, I thought I heard you say Selina Lai,’ she laughed.
‘I did,’ Michelle said. ‘Why? You know her personally?’
‘No,’ she quickly lied. She didn’t know why. But Selina used to work for her in My Studio in America and then moved to HK when that opened. ‘Not personally,’ she carried on when Michelle norrowed her eyes suspiciously. ‘I read about her in the magazines,’ she hoped Michelle didn’t guess her out.
‘She was a top model of course everyone knows her,’ she admitted suspicious all evapourating.
‘She quit modelling three years ago…’ her voice trailed off when she realized that something was a miss here. ‘I’m guessing straight after her break up?’ she raised her eyebrow.
‘You guessed right.’
‘Do you think she had problems?’ she asked.
Michelle frowned. ‘To tell you the truth I haven’t thought of that. I mean the clues are all there… Why didn’t I think of that!’ she gasped. She was putting two and two together now. ‘There was nothing wrong with her and Jay’s relationship and all of a sudden she wants to split. When Jay wouldn’t hear of it she goes for the next best thing, lie, telling him fig about just anything to make him wanna break up…’
‘And she dissapears from the world after the break up,’ she finished.
‘Omg!’ Michelle cried out. ‘What if she’s dead?’
‘Now you’re going over board,’ she declared. ‘She’s not dead. She’s 100% alive.’
‘How would you know?’
‘Because I just saw her few hours ago.’
‘No!’ Michelle shrieked. ‘How?’
‘She is on this very own ship,’ she slowly said.
‘I’ve seen all the women on the ship and she wasn’t there,’ Michelle calmed down not believing her. ‘I do know how she looks like, you know,’ she pointed out.
‘You haven’t seen her because she was the boat driver,’ she answered.
‘But Jay would have noticed,’ Michelle said.
‘I didn’t recognize her at first. And you’re wrong about him not noticing. He was sure noticing her all over.’
‘Seriously?’ Michelle looked bewildered at the thought.
‘Seriously,’ she said.
‘We have to find her.’ with that she dashed out of the room leaving Charlene stare at the dissappearing figure in confuse. Five minutes later Charlene was getting impatiant of waiting and was going to look for her when the door burst open and in came Michelle breathing hard from all the running. She held up her hand indicating that she had to catch her breath. Few minutes went by did she then breath normally. ‘I asked the waitress down at the bar who asked the bartender who asked the manager who asked the head of the activies and came up with the boat drivers name and her room number,’ after the long sentence in one go Michelle took a deep breath.
‘And…?’ she questioned because Michelle wasn’t saying anything else.
‘What?’ Michelle looked confused. Then, ‘Oh!’
‘Yeah, oh,’ she mocked.
‘Her name is Selina Reis and she’s at room 214.’
‘Now it’s my turn to dissappear,’ she said standing up. She was all dressed up for the party but they had plenty of time. ‘I won’t be long.’ She walked to the door and paused. ‘This is fun, isnt it?’ she said childishly.
Michelle giggled and nodding her head at the same time.
She stood outside room 214 and took a deep breath. She then gathered her confidence and knocked at the door. She didn’t have to wait long because the door swung open. Selina stared at her blankly. Charlene just smiled.
