~Blurting Out The Truth~

Chapter Fifty-Seven ‘Blurting Out The Truth’

Everyone around the world was watching the Live 2004 Business Award Ceremony.

Her family was watching it.

‘Look my baby’s on TV,’ cried out Clive.

‘We know,’ everyone howled together. ‘It was like the fiftieth time!’

‘Sorry,’ Clive apologized and went back to watching the TV.

Nicholas, Joey, Gillian and Shawn were watching it together at Nicholas’s place.

‘So, why are we watching this again?’ Joey moaned.

‘Sshh,’ Gillian hissed. Her attention was on Charlene and Edison on the screen.

‘We see Charlene and Edison all the time,’ Nicholas groaned. ‘Do we have to do so in TV as well?’

‘This is important,’ Shawn replied. The two moaners and groaners kept quiet and watched the screen.

Her models and their partners were hunched up together closely watching it.

‘Yay! Charlene!’ Stephen threw popcorn at the TV.

‘Oi! Stop making a mess,’ complained Ruby. They were at her mansion watching in her wide screen. ‘Who invited you anyways?’ she asked.

‘Rain,’ he said. ‘Anyways, I want to see my friends!’ He stuck out his tongue.

‘Leave my woman alone,’ Kenny warned playfully.

‘Guys, shhhh. Watch it quietly or don’t watch it at all!’ Daniel told them. Hushing them all.

So many people were watching it and most of them knew her.

Her smile was hurting her mouth but she still kept it there as they walked down the red carpet and into the building not stopping at all to talk to the tabloid. She exhaled a deep breath.

‘Relax,’ Edison whispered in her ears. She looked up to his smiling face. She gave him an assuring smile. ‘It will be okay.’ She nodded.

The guide directed them to their seat. They were seated in the middle of the room. Charlene scanned the room nervously. Half the room was filled with business people and more were coming. There was a big stage at the front. When they came to their table the guide left for another guest.

‘Well… This seems pleasant,’ Edison commented. Then, ‘Oh, great!’

‘What? What is it?’ she quickly asked getting all fearful.

‘No. Nothing that bad,’ he pledged when he saw the scared expression she gave him. ‘Its just Daisy just entered.’

‘Oh,’ was all she managed. She could feel the bad feeling building up inside her. She took couple of breaths and waited. I am not going to be scared and edgy, she firmly told herself. I will be strong.

Soon enough the hostess was on the stage. ‘Welcome everyone to the Live 2004 Business Award Ceremony.’ Clapping and cheering were heard from the crowd. ‘As you all know I am the one and only Vivian Leung. You guys must be thinking what is an actress hosting for, right?’ Vivian gave a short laugh. ‘Well they wanted a beautiful woman and that’s me,’ the crowd laughed. ‘To make sure that no one missed out on this event. And I must say I think most of you are here to see me especially – I hope.’ She gave the crowd a playful glare. ‘Anyways…’

The event went on. There was a half way through break. The business of the year hasn’t been awarded yet. It will be at the end of the ceremony. The food was being given out. People took the opportunity to mingle around. She had hand Edison stayed put not wanting to talk to them.

‘Did I tell you how beautiful you are with that seductive dress?’ he huskily said.

‘No, but do go on,’ she said.

‘I must have been tongue tied,’ he said a pick up line.

‘Right,’ Charlene rolled her eyes laughing.

‘You should be locked up because you’re killing me,’ he carried on.

‘She should be locked up,’ came the remark from behind Charlene. She turned to face Daisy. Edison looked up with irritation.

‘What a surprise you are here,’ Edison retorted.

‘Like wise,’ was all Daisy said. She ignored Charlene was even sitting there. ‘I want you to meet some people. It will help more with your business.’

‘I don’t – ’ he couldn’t finish because he was yanked out of his seat and being pulled away from the table. He turned to look at Charlene but she just waved her hand. She was angry that Daisy had just taken her fiancé. Who wouldn’t be angry? She didn’t want to cause a scene and that’s what she would have been doing if she did tell Daisy what she thought of her.

She must have been sitting there for half an hour. She was bored stiff. The hostess came back on the stage to carry on the event. Edison came back and slumped down on the chair. She knew that he was frustrated.

‘Had fun?’ she cracked quietly over the hostess’s voice booming around the room from the speaker.

‘Oh yeah,’ he countered sarcastically.

They didn’t talk after that. All through the ceremony they kept silent. It was the time for the award for business of the year. She listened to the hostess.

‘Now the award you were waiting for,’ to make it dramatic, Vivian paused. She introduced a celebrity to give the award out.

‘The nominees are…’ the celebrity looked at the envelope and read the first three. ‘…The forth nominee is the owner of My Studio Ah Si. Ah Si is the richest man or woman – we clearly have no idea which one - in the world and also hides from the world too. We all hope that before we die we find out who he or she really is…’ she joked, and then carried on with the fifth one. ‘And the 2004 Business Award goes to… Ah Si!’

The crowd clapped and cheered. Charlene nearly unconsciously stood up but stopped herself just in time. Instead she saw Daisy going on the stage and taking the award ‘on behalf’ of her. That was the end of the event. Nobody moved to leave. She wanted them to so she can too.

‘Can we go?’ she whispered to Edison.

‘I have no idea,’ he whispered back. Just when he finished people from the back stood to leave. It looked like they have to wait for them to leave first. She noticed that the camera crew that had access back stage was taking interviews to the ones that won the awards.

They were finally allowed to go.

‘Going?’ they heard once again Daisy saying behind them.

Charlene was going to walk off as if she never heard her but Daisy came on her way. Well not in her way, Edison’s way. He had to stop since he was holding onto her hand she had to as well.

‘What do you want, Daisy?’ she hissed.

‘Nothing from you,’ she smugly replied. ‘Edison come and do an interview with me. They would want to interview you since you won the Employer of The Month Award.’

‘I don’t feel like it,’ Edison said as patient as he could say.

‘Don’t feel like it? Darling, how could you not?’ she said it as if it’s not possible. Charlene was getting angry every minute for being ignored plus her trying to take Edison away from her.

‘I want to go home,’ she told him.

‘Go home then,’ Daisy remarked before Edison could say anything.

‘Daisy!’ Edison shouted finally letting his anger out. ‘I don’t need you to tell my girlfriend what to do!’

‘You can’t talk to me like that! Remember we’re engaged!’ Daisy shouted back. People were now crowding around them. The TV crews were looking for juice and that’s what they were getting.

‘Engaged?’ Edison laughed. ‘I broke it off remember? Why would I marry a pompous bitch like you?’

‘Edison,’ Charlene whispered. She didn’t like it that there was a crowd gathered.

‘And a pompous bitch who spikes my drink to get me into to bed,’ he carried on. He didn’t hear Charlene. ‘I was drunk and I still didn’t want you!’ he said in disgust. Clearly he didn’t know that he was making a scene.

‘How dare you!’ Daisy roared. ‘It’s all because of that bitch,’ she pointed at Charlene. She went forward and was going to slap her but Charlene had a great reflex, she grabbed her hand and twisted it. When Daisy gave a loud scream then did she let go.

‘Don’t touch me,’ she warned.

‘Who do you think you are anyways?’ Daisy cried out. She rubbed her injured arm.

‘Someone more better than you,’ Charlene automatically said.

‘Better than me? You can never be! You are just a small time designer. You think you can be a great designer well think again!’

‘I have!’

‘Seriously gurl, who do you think you are? Ah Si?’ Daisy snorted.

‘I don’t have to because I am!’ she shouted. She then automatically clamped her mouth with her hands. Tightly holding her mouth she looked around her. Everyone looked at her curiously if she was telling the truth.

Daisy laughed. ‘Pur-lease! Don’t make me laugh!’

Charlene ignored her and looked straight at Edison. He gave her a blank look, not believe this was happening. ‘Rewind,’ he began breaking the long silence. ‘What did you say? You are Ah Si? Why did you say that.’ Tears formed in her eyes. She shook her head not moving her hands from her mouth. ‘Tell me you were joking,’ he pleaded. Tears fell down her cheeks and kept flowing. ‘Tell me,’ he begged. She didn’t move from her spot just kept shaking her head. He grabbed hold of her and moved her hands away. ‘Tell me,’ he said this time firmly.

‘Please,’ she begged. ‘Don’t do this!’

‘Do what?’ he retorted.

‘This! We are on National TV for goodness sake!’ she waved her hands showing him that cameras were in all direction.

‘I don’t care. All I care right now is you telling me that you were joking!’

‘What do you want me to say? That I don’t own My Studio? That I’m not the richest woman alive? What?’ she accused him.

‘Yes!’ he yelled. ‘I want you tell me that!’

‘Well I can’t!’ She yelled back. ‘I’m really sorry but I can’t.’

‘You’re lying,’ Daisy hauled up. ‘You are not the owner of My Studio.’

‘I’m really sorry,’ she told Edison disregarded Daisy talking. ‘I wanted to tell you. I really did but you told me how you didn’t want to marry someone richer than you that I couldn’t get myself to tell you.’

‘So when would you have told me?’ he demanded. ‘When we were married? Or weren’t you ever going to tell me? Did you think I wouldn’t find out sooner or later?’

‘No. I would have told you,’ she desperately wanted to make him understand. She then remembered their conversation earlier. ‘Do you love me?’ she blurted out. He didn’t answer her. ‘Answer me,’ she demanded but her voice was shaky already getting the feeling what his answer will be.

‘I don’t know,’ he finally said that barely came out as a whisper.

‘You don’t know?’ she spat at him. ‘Just few hours ago you were telling me not to question your love for me. Was that all a lie? Do you not love me anymore?’

He didn’t meet her eyes. She stared at him not leaving her gaze. He got irritated and angry about the whole situation. ‘I just don’t know!’ he yelled. He then ran off leaving her to cry.

‘Miss Choi!’ the reporters had snapped back to reality. They were all sad with the scene that went on. They then bombarded her with questions after questions. ‘Why did you hide yourself from the world? Why did you use different name?’

Daisy pushed the reporters away and went face to face with Charlene. ‘You liar! You are not the owner!’ she barked.

‘Leave me alone!’ Charlene cried out. She tried to push the media away but they wouldn’t move. They kept coming closer and closer. ‘Move out the way!’

‘Why would you pretend that you’re a small time designer?’ Daisy still kept bellowing at her.

Charlene cried. She didn’t have any escape. Edison left her. He doesn’t love her. She found her answer if they were fated together. She should have told him before. She should have told him.

‘Miss Choi! Miss Choi!’ the reporters still kept calling her name out. She clenched her hand into a fist. She was fuming with anger. She caught sight of the officers that were going to arrest Daisy.

‘You bitch!’ Daisy spat. ‘Did you think you’d have Edison? He left you!’ Charlene cried not able to talk. ‘Let me tell you a secret. Who do you think slashed your car? Raved your apartment and office?’

‘You did that?’ Charlene whispered.

Daisy laughed evilly. ‘Why didn’t you come back as the owner?’ Daisy said.

‘Because I wanted to find out who was stealing from my company!’ she roared. ‘I wanted to find out who it is before arresting them. Now I have full proof that you are the one. I was going to get you arrested tomorrow but you are too annoying that I’ll let them take you away now.’ She then signaled the guys to take her. Charlene then made a run for it. She didn’t wait to see the screaming Daisy. She just ran out of the building with the reporters after her.

She struggled to run with her heels. She bent down and took it off and carried on running. She kept on running not checking if they were following her anymore. She didn’t care. She ran where her legs took her. It took her straight to the beach were she finally stopped to catch her breath. She must have been running for the last ten minutes. She dropped down on her knees on the sand and cried. She fell a sleep there eventually, tired of running, tired of thinking and tired of crying.
