Clive stared at the TV with stunned expression. She owned My Studio? She never told him. Why didn’t she tell me? He thought. Why did she keep it a secret? He wanted answers.
There was silence in Nicholas’s pent house. They all knew about Charlene except Joey. They were silent because they just witnessed what Edison has just done. He had just walked away.
‘I knew the owner of My Studio all this time!’ exclaimed Joey. ‘Omg! I know her and I never knew she actually was the owner.’
‘I can’t believe Edison!’ Gillian called out.
‘We have to find her,’ Shawn worriedly declared.
‘Leave her for now,’ Nicholas at last said something. He was angry what Edison had done and he wasn’t going to let him off the hook. Shawn too felt the same but he was going to wait till he knew Charlene was fine. ‘She wouldn’t want us hovering over her. She would say things she doesn’t mean. It’s best we leave her for now.’
‘I wouldn’t say that about Edison,’ Gillian said. She was going to get Edison for what he has done.
Her models gawked at the TV. Cecilia cried with the sad scene. Vanness tried to comfort her but she cried even louder. Barbie dug into Jerry’s arm angrily imagining that she was doing it to Edison, making Jerry cry out. Miriam tugged on Daniel’s shirt. He hugged her trying to sooth her knowing she was upset. Ruby, Rain and Vicki didn’t move. Just stared at the blank screen. Kenny had turned the TV off in disgust. He was angry with Edison and was going to make his life miserable.
‘How could he do that?’ Cecilia cried. ‘He was so mean!’
‘He is so dead!’ Barbie hissed clenching her hands into a fist. She was fuming with anger.
‘She was Ah Si from the start,’ Ruby dazedly said.
‘The only reason she was here was coz of Daisy,’ Rain carried on.
‘At least the evil Daisy is getting locked up,’ Stephen said. He didn’t know whose side he was at. Edison or Charlene. Edison was his best friend. But Charlene was his friend too and what Edison had done was extreme.
Sam too was feeling the same. He was torn between two friends. Plus Vicki wouldn’t let him go near Edison knowing how she is. She would be at Charlene’s side even though Charlene didn’t tell them who she really was.
‘Even though Daisy’s getting locked up we should be happy but I feel gloom,’ Miriam sadly stated.
‘I know how you feeling,’ muttered Kenny. They were silently wishing that Charlene was okay.
The ray of sunlight woke her up. She sat up abruptly. She looked around in confuse the night before was a blur to her. Then it all came back to her, the event, Daisy, she blurting out who she is, Edison leaving her and her running from the press. Again tears streamed down her cheeks just thinking of Edison.
‘Do you love me?’ she whispered to herself but really saying to who knows were Edison. She felt he was next to her. She could feel his presence close by.
He had to think. Why did this have to happen to him? He thought when he woke up in the morning. He was on the beach too but at the far end.
‘Did he love her?’ he asked himself. Why couldn’t he answer her yesterday? Why did he leave her there? Question after question invaded his thoughts.
He felt the warm breeze of wind on the air. He sensed her presence. He scanned the beach but there was no living soul around. He must be going crazy. Maybe he did make a mistake of not telling her and answer. But then what would be his answer? He didn’t know now how would he have known yesterday?
He groaned loudly. He needed time to think. He just needed time.
She realized that her private beach was near by. If she walked at the other end of the beach she could go to her condo and be miserable there. But her legs wouldn’t get her up. She felt weak. Forcing herself up she staggered herself across the beach. Halfway she saw someone was there and then she froze. Edison? She thought. Or was her eyes playing trick on her. Why would he be here?
As if sensing her presence he looked up. He too looked stunned. She was happy that he was here. He scrambled up on his feet. They stared at each other for what looked like forever when finally she stepped forward. To her dismay he stepped back. She gazed up on him questioningly. She tried again but again he stepped back.
‘Why?’ she cried out. She cried openly not caring if she was making a total fool of herself. She just didn’t care right now. She saw him hesitate then back off. He stumbled but picked himself up. He for the second time ran away leaving her.
She found herself two hours later in her condo. Showered and dressed in faded jeans that went up to her ankles and a pink top reading ‘Leave Me Alone’. She was motionlessly lying down on her bed staring at the ceiling. The scene kept repeating itself in her mind, Edison running away from her. She felt isolated.
Her doorbell rang. She chose to ignore it but it kept on ringing along with the banging on the door.
‘Go away,’ she miserably yelled to the air. Who ever it was kept on ringing the door. Frustrated she got up and stalked down the stairs and yanked the door open violently. ‘What?’ she shouted. She then calmed herself down. It was her models and behind them was Kenny and Vanness.
‘Charlene,’ Ruby cried out and hugged her. She was crying. Charlene was dumbfounded.
‘We saw what happened on TV,’ Vicki came and joined in the hugging. She too was crying along with the rest of her models.
‘It was so sad!’ Rain wailed. All the girls were now in her lounge giving her a big hug. They were making her cry as well. So she joined in.
‘I couldn’t stop crying,’ Cecilia bawled.
‘Yeah I’m a great witness to that!’ complained Vanness. The guys were uncomfortable with the whole situation. Crying women wasn’t a pretty sight.
‘He was so mean to leave you like that!’ Miriam acknowledged.
‘I was so angry with him that I felt like killing him!’ Barbie said making a disgusted expression. ‘How dare he do that in nation wide?’
Charlene broke the hug and went to sit on a chair. They followed her and sat around on the chairs. ‘It’s not his fault,’ she whispered defending him. ‘I should have told him the truth from the beginning.’
‘Stop trying to defend him,’ Cecilia scolded her. ‘He doesn’t deserve it!’
‘And you don’t deserve him,’ Ruby carried on. They were trying to make her feel better.
‘Because I’m too rich for him?’ Charlene asked. They all went silent not knowing what to say to that.
‘Just let him think about everything. I guarantee that he will come around,’ Kenny said at last.
‘When will that be?’ Charlene requested. ‘Tomorrow? Next week? Next month? Or next year?’ She felt bad when the words came out of her mouth. But she couldn’t help herself. She was hurt that it was natural to her to hurt another. ‘Please leave,’ she pleaded not meeting anyone’s eyes.
First they didn’t move but then they knew that she meant it that one by one they left. Kenny was the last one. ‘See you on Monday,’ he firmly said wanting her to turn up at work.
She didn’t reply just turned her face away for him not to see the pained look. She wished she were the same person who came to HK three months ago. She wished that she didn’t change her friendship with Edison because at least they was have been together if not as a couple. She wished a thousand times.
