It has been a month and she hasn’t come back. Edison was lying on his bed thinking what she was doing right now. He wished a thousand times she was okay and she would come back. He recalled the moment he felt his heart leave him and everyone come to his house one by one wanting to know what his problem was.
*****************************Flash Back 1*******************************
Jay and Selina banged frantically at his door as he was slumped on his chair thinking what he had done. She’s gone because of him. He didn’t tell her he loved her and he didn’t stop her. He stood up slowly and answered the door still in daze.
‘What have you done!’ Jay scolded him as soon as he opened the door.
Edison groaned and covered his ears. ‘Not so loud,’ he pleaded. ‘I’m not in the mood to be shouted at.’ He left the door open and walked back to the lounge.
Jay was on his tail, fuming mad. ‘You should thought of that before dumping her on TV!’ Jay retorted.
Selina touched Jay’s arm silencing him quietly. ‘I think he’s already regretting what he had done,’ she whispered.
‘Thank you,’ Edison bowed respectfully as she understood him.
‘What are you going to do then, lil’ bro?’ Jay sighed knowing that he couldn’t tell Edison off anymore as he was hurt already.
‘I don’t know,’ Edison admitted in defeat.
‘Don’t worry you’ll think of something,’ Selina assured him giving him a smile.
*****************************Flash Back 2*******************************
Michelle and Louis came as soon as they heard the news. They had gone off to a small holiday to get to know each other when they read the newspaper. They were shocked to read about Charlene and Edison and rushed off to know why that had happened.
‘How could you be stupid!’ Michelle shrieked.
Not again, Edison thought. ‘I’m sorry.’
‘Sorry?’ she repeated sardonically. ‘Sorry for what? You shouldn’t be sorry to me! You should be sorry to Charlene! Leaving her there to fend all those reporters alone!’
‘I’m sorry for being stupid,’ Edison said.
Michelle quieted down. She could see that he regretted his decision. She felt bad for him now.
Louis who had been quiet came hand squeezed Edison’s shoulder. ‘Don’t worry, mate. Knowing Charlene, she’s quick to forgive.’
‘Yeah,’ Michelle carried on. ‘She’s one of a kind. She’ll come back. Even if you don’t want her she’ll try anyways.’
Edison smiled at them trying to make him feel better. ‘Thanks, big sis and soon to be bro in-law.’
*****************************Flash Back 3*******************************
If he thought that was going doing to be the last guest he had over he was sure wrong. Shawn came to pay him a visit and he wasn’t happy. Charlene had just come to him to say that she was going away for a month or so. He was stunned at first but when it hit him that it was all because of Edison he wanted to kill him. Luckily for Edison he had promised Charlene that he wouldn’t touch him. But that didn’t mean that he couldn’t say what he liked.
‘So, tell me,’ Shawn demanded. ‘If you said you loved my sister why couldn’t you answer her when she asked that night?’
Edison sighed heavily. He didn’t want this. But Shawn was Charlene’s brother and she loved him dearly like he loved her. He knew how Shawn was feeling right now. ‘I swear if I could turn back the time I would have told her how I felt,’ Edison said from his heart.
Shawn’s facial expression changed when he saw in Edison’s eyes that he was telling the truth. ‘It’s too late now. She’s gone.’
‘I know. But I’ll be ready to get her back when she returns,’ Edison said firmly.
‘You’re a great guy and all,’ Shawn admitted. ‘But you suck at relationship!’
Both of them chuckled despite of their situation. Shawn meant it when he said that. He couldn’t have picked a better brother-in-law like Edison. He only wished that Charlene would come back soon. He already missed her.
*****************************Flash Back 4*******************************
Stephen and Sam came to see him. They were worried of him. They had to sneak in so their girlfriends don’t find out.
‘You okay, man?’ Stephen asked in concern.
Edison nodded not wanting to talk. He wondered who’s going to come next.
‘We would have come when we found out but Vicki won’t let me,’ Sam said not hiding the fact that the models were angry with him.
‘I understand,’ Edison assured them. He wasn’t angry with them. He wasn’t angry with anyone but himself. Charlene was lucky to have so many friends. They were all worried for her and he respected all of them. He deserved what they gave him.
‘You’re going to be okay?’ Stephen asked again not sure.
‘Yeah, thanks for coming,’ he said. He didn’t want them to feel that he wasn’t listening to them.

He watched San and Stephen drove away. He didn’t move form his spot for ten minutes. He was thinking that so many people hated him. He was wrong to leave her and he had done it twice. He remembered what he promised.

(Setting: Business Award Ceremony)
‘I’m not going,’ she said all of a sudden.
‘What!’ he saw the fear in her eyes and lowered his voice. ‘It’s not that bad. They won’t bother us.’
‘It’s not that,’ she said. ‘I have this bad feeling about going in.’
‘Nothings going to happen,’ he assured her.
‘But what if something does,’ she confronted.
‘Then we’ll sort it,’ he softly spoke.
‘Will you still love me?’ she blurted out.
‘Char!’ he exclaimed. He gripped on her chin gently and made her look at him. ‘Seriously, what has gotten into you? Of course I would love you. Don’t ever question my love to you. Ever!’ He then kissed her to prove it. Pulling back he ordered her, ‘Now let’s go.’

He promised that whatever happened they’d sort it out. He also told her he’d love her no matter. He lied to her he scolded himself. How could he have said that and go against it. He snapped out of his thoughts. He was more depressed just thinking about what he had said.
He was about to close the door when six cars pulled in his driveway. He had given his staff the week off not wanting anyone to bother him. So that meant his gates were open letting anyone to come in.
Here we go again, he muttered to himself when Charlene’s angry models climbed out of the car glaring at him. The doors to each car slammed shut behind.
‘Glad you’re not hiding from us,’ Barbie remarked.
‘I wouldn’t try,’ he replied.
‘Good!’ Rain snapped. ‘We wouldn’t want to go looking for you.’
‘Don’t worry we won’t kill you,’ Vicki snickered. ‘Thanks to Charlene making us promise.’
‘Or you would have been dead,’ Miriam carried on. She wasn’t the type to get into an argument but when it came to her friends she’d do anything.
‘Girls,’ he began. ‘I know you are saying this because you guys like Charlene and I respect that…’
‘Save the sob story for someone who cares!’ Ruby interrupted angrily. ‘How could you? After all that you have said and done!’ she was crying now but she didn’t stop telling him off. ‘We thought you really loved her! Why did you lead her on?’
Cecilia hugged Ruby who was crying uncontrollably. She glared at him. ‘We really mistaken.’
He sighed looking away as a tear fell down his cheek. They all noticed. They looked at each other then at Edison. ‘You’re right,’ he said quietly. ‘I shouldn’t have loved her then let her go.’
Silence filled the air. The girls looked doubtful. They must have made a mistake thinking that he didn’t care for Charlene. They could tell that the tear was real and showed he was depressed.
‘Maybe,’ Vicki stuttered. ‘Maybe you shouldn’t have let her go.’
He nodded understanding that they were regretful now but he didn’t make eye contract.
Ruby pulled away from Cecilia and went to hug him. He was taken aback. ‘I’m sorry,’ she cried. ‘I didn’t know you were hurt as well.’
‘It’s okay,’ he choked out.
‘We’re all sorry,’ Cecilia said. ‘We shouldn’t have jumped to accusation.’
*****************************Flash Back 7*******************************
It was late night when he got another visitor. He had already locked the gates. He used the intercom to see who it was.
‘It’s me Nicholas,’ was his a hoarse response.
Edison knew he was angry and could easily not let him in but he thought otherwise. He opened the gates and closed it behind him. He went to the door and swung it open.
‘I know it’s not my place but I’d like to know if you’re happy now that Charlene is out of your life.’
‘Do I look happy?’ Edison asked. His face showed he was tired but his eyes showed that he wasn’t happy at all.
‘So why did you make the stupid decision?’ Nicholas frowned.
‘Because I’m stupid,’ Edison replied. ‘I didn’t know what I have done ‘til she left me.’
‘So when she comes back what you going to do?’
‘Are you sure she’d coming back?’ Edison’s voice was shaky. He feared that he wouldn’t ever see her again.
‘She’ll come back but even if she don’t I’m sure you could find her,’ Nicholas tried to convince him. He didn’t want Edison to lose faith just yet.
‘She’ll want me back right?’ he whispered. He earned a nod.

He smiled at the thought. They were all okay with him after letting out their anger. They were also with him to try and get Charlene back. Nobody could get in tough with her. It only made him worry over her. He wished he knew how she was. It was a torture for him not knowing what’s she’s doing or what she’s up.
‘I love and I regret not saying it when you asked,’ he whispered to the ceiling.
‘Charlene?’ Leo called. She turned her head away from the opened door. She was lying down on her bed in her private island. It has been a month and she still was emotionally depressed. ‘I got you some dinner,’ he whispered.
‘I don’t want any,’ she grumbled.
‘I’m very sorry but you have to eat something or I’ll call for the doctor again,’ he threatened gently.
It wouldn’t have been the first time. She barely ate anything. Leo had to call a private doctor four times because she wouldn’t eat and she would make herself sick after crying too much. All day she would lie in bed doing absolutely nothing but cry. Leo felt sorry for her. A woman like her shouldn’t go through this. She was the nicest person he ever met.
She forced herself to sit up. Leo who was holding a tray with her dinner put it down next to her bedside cupboard and rushed to help her up.
‘I don’t need your help,’ she said, frustrated. He let go of her immediately.
Even though she protested he still fed her. She was too weak to move. ‘I thought I’ll help you with the packing,’ he said. Charlene jerked her head away from the fork and stared at him. ‘It’s one week till Valentines Day, remember?’ he continued.
‘You must have forgotten that I don’t have a boyfriend or a…’ a sob came out all of a sudden. She was going to cry.
‘Not for that!’ he quickly assured her before the water works begins and he sure wouldn’t be able to stop them if they do. ‘It’s Nicholas’s wedding and you asked me to remind you when it comes.’
She was silent for awhile. Thinking. ‘Thank you for reminding me,’ she whispered. She knew her manners even though she thought she forgot the meaning of living. She had to stay strong, she told herself firmly. She couldn’t let the world go by with her still feeling bad for herself.
