Chapter 61

~Nicholas’s Wedding P1 – Runaway Groom~

Chapter Sixty-One ‘Nicholas’s Wedding P1 – Runaway Groom’

She was back in Hong Kong now. As she promised to everyone she’ll be back in a months time. She took a long deep breath in and let it out slowly. Leo was right in front of her just like any other bodyguard would do.

‘Are you ready?’ he asked not turning to look at her.

‘No,’ she squeaked. But she took a step out of the plane anyway.

Edison felt a pang jolt inside him. He could sense her presence. And he could sense his heart just come back after a month of agonizing days waiting.

He forgave her. He wanted her back knowing well that she won’t be willingly to come back to him. And he knew he had made the biggest mistake of letting her go. He only wished that he could find a way to get her to forgive him. He already got everyone to forgive him which took him at least two weeks after he explained that he knew what he had done and wasn’t proud of it. One person who wasn’t willing and still isn’t to forgive is Gillian. She hates him. Every time he sees her or every time he thinks of her he gets the shivers. Her cold stare just gives him nightmares. Everyone was now waiting for Charlene to return and see where it goes from there.

‘Please God, let her come back to me,’ he prayed a million wishes.

She arrived at her apartment in one piece. No one knew she was here. So she didn’t assume the press has. Just in case she came through the back entrance not taking the risk of being seen. She wasn’t in the mood to be asked questions yet.

‘Would you like me to make you anything?’ Leo asked. He had made it a habit of asking her that.

She shook her head. ‘Maybe later,’ she quickly said before he thought she was going to starve herself. She went to her room. She needed a shower. Once she stepped out she looked herself in the long mirror. Water was dripping down. She was stunned to see herself loose weight. She lost too much.

Not wanting to be depressed about her weight she quickly changed and went to the kitchen to eat. Leo looked surprised to see her stuffing herself when he came out to inspect who was in the kitchen making too much noise.

‘Are you okay?’ he asked, frowning.

‘Of course,’ she said in between biting into her large cheese and salad sandwich.

He nodded, confused at why all of a sudden she was eating and walked back to the spare room.

The next morning she woke up dragging herself out of bed and into the shower. After freshening up she went to the kitchen. Last night she had called reporters and promised them half and hour interview in a week’ time if they would leave her be before that. She had also called her father explaining about everything. He didn’t make it big of a deal as he wanted to. He promised to call her the next day.

‘Morning,’ Leo sang.

‘Good morning,’ she muttered. She still wasn’t ready for the world. But then she knew she’d never be. ‘I have to go to Joey’s place so I don’t know if you want to come or not.’

‘I’m your bodyguard,’ he pointed out. ‘I go wherever you go.’

‘Thanks.’ She smiled. ‘You know you are different from any other bodyguards I met. They would never talk to me.’

He grinned. ‘True. I don’t want to be like Men in Black. Then again I wouldn’t mind being Will Smith.’ She laughed. ‘You know this is the first time I heard you laugh.’

‘Well thank you for getting it back,’ she grinned. They had breakfast and left for Joey’s apartment.

‘Omg!’ was the first thing that came out of Joey’s mouth when she saw her. ‘What happened to you?’ she shrieked. ‘You are all bones!’

‘Thank you for the compliment,’ she said hugging her.

‘What did you do to yourself?’ Gillian came from behind Joey. Charlene let go of Joey and rushed to hug Gillian.

‘Did I change that much?’ she joked.

Gillian didn’t find it funny. She turned to Leo and glared at him. ‘You were with her couldn’t you have forced fed her if it came to that?’

‘It’s not his fault,’ she quickly defended him. He was there for her all the way even though she was nasty and bitchy because she hated men sometimes. He was there when she starved herself. He didn’t so much as force her to eat but he did threaten her.

Gillian stopped glaring at him and looked at Charlene. ‘You’re right it’s Edison’s fault.’

Charlene sighed. Joey took the opportunity to ask her inside to her living room. It was a right mess with material and papers everywhere. ‘Don’t mind the mess. We were sorting out the last minute arrangements,’ Joey explained. They talked all the way about the hen night.

The hen night went great. Joey invited all her friends in one of Nicholas’s club. She was happy that he didn’t mind that Charlene hired a stripper only if the stripper stopped at the pants. Charlene tried to have fun. Her thoughts would always wonder off to what Edison was doing. As much as she hated to say this she still missed him miserably.

It was the day of the wedding and she was hiding her sadness with a smile. Leo drove her to the church. She was silent all the way. At the church Gillian was going frantic. She rushed to her side in panic.

‘What happened?’ she asked.

‘It’s Nicholas! He’s gone missing!’ Gillian cried out.

‘What?’ she shrieked. ‘When?’

‘In the morning I went to his room but he wasn’t there. I thought, maybe he’d come back. He hasn’t come back!’

Just then old memory came back. She was glad that she was a good listener. And when Nicholas said where he was when he has to think in one of their many conversations, she thanked God for giving her a good memory.

‘Don’t worry I think I know where he is,’ she said hoping she was.

She left Leo calming Gillian down. If she was going to get Nicholas to the altar she had to talk to him alone.

And she was right. He was at the top of the old building where the billboard was at the top. He had explained to her that here was where he had his first kiss. ‘Thought I’d find you here,’ she said sitting next to him at the edge. She looked down and whistled at how high they were. ‘Good scenery.’

‘Am I making the right decision?’ his voice had fear in it all of a sudden.

‘I don’t know. I can’t answer that for you,’ she wisely said. ‘You have to decide that.’

‘How would you know?’

‘I wouldn’t. But then I would ask myself if I could live the rest of my life without this person.’

‘I can’t think!’ he said, frustrated.

‘Just think of that day when she would have been run over by the sports car,’ she suggested gently. No one told him the truth that it was a set up. He wouldn’t take it lightly. Kenny on the other hand made both her and Joey promised that they don’t tell him. He was scared Nicholas might come and beat him up.

They sat silently as he thought. She didn’t mind waiting. One way or another she was going to get him to the alter because she knows that him and Joey are made for each other and if this marriage doesn’t go through they will be making the biggest mistake of their lives. And to her it would be a shame.

‘I’m sorry about you and Edison,’ he said.

‘You shouldn’t be thinking of us but your wedding,’ she laughed but it came bitterly. ‘I’m still not ready,’ she admitted.

‘Would you give him another chance if he asked for it?’

‘I…’ she took her time finding the answer. She clearly didn’t think that far. So far she thought he wouldn’t want her back. ‘You know what? I have no idea!’

‘Well, I advice you to think about it.’

She badly wanted to change the subject. He meant well but she just didn’t want to think about that know. All the thinking is making her head hurt. ‘So have you decided yet?’ she asked.

‘Decided what?’

‘That if you wanted to get married or not,’ she said in a matter-of-fact tone.

‘Of course I’m going to get married!’ he shrieked. ‘Don’t be silly!’

She laughed. ‘Glad to hear that,’ she checked her watch. With a squeal she jumped up and screamed. ‘You are meant to be at the church now! You’re ten minutes late!’

He too leaped to his feet. ‘My God we’re at the other end of the city!’

‘Serves you right for choosing this place to hide,’ she muttered. ‘Now do you want to marry or not?’ she yelled.

‘Yes!’

‘Let’s get a move on then!’ she firmly ordered him. They both then dashed down the stairs and into a busy street. People stared at them. Charlene then realized why. Nicholas was in his tux and she was wearing her brides’ maid dress that Joey picked out. Both of them looked out of place. ‘Quickly hail a cab,’ she commanded in frantic. The street was crowded and she felt too small.

Nicholas did as he was asked. In no time a cab parking by the curb. They rushed in. ‘To Saint Cathedral,’ he rushed. ‘And step on it,’ he added giving large amount of bill the cabs way. The cab screeched through the street when he saw the money.

But to their horror there was a traffic jam. An accident had just occurred a few miles a head.

‘We’ll never make it,’ Nicholas cried out. The taxi driver looked though the review mirror at him.

‘I’m really sorry,’ he apologized. He guessed that he was the groom but he didn’t think the other woman was the bride. He saw her on the magazine.

‘Don’t think that way,’ Charlene scolded him. She turned to the driver who was staring at her strangely. ‘Can we go through the traffic?’ she tried.

He shook his head.

‘We’re doomed,’ Nicholas gave up.
