Chapter Sixty-Five ‘The BIG Wedding’
She was nervous and excited at the same time. She couldn’t believe she was getting married. She was getting married! She would have been jumping up and down but she was wearing her wedding dress. She made it personally.
She looked at the mirror. She looked beautiful. Women look beautiful on their wedding day. It’s just how it goes. You don’t get married everyday now. She wore a white dress that flared up just on her knees and at the back it was a train of material. The material was silky at the top it made out just like a vest. The neck was low in an open square shape. The skirt had diamonds on and crystal. The sleeves were netted with flower patterns. Her veil was just the same netted like her sleeves.
‘You look so beautiful!’ her bride of honor, Gillian commented tearfully.
‘My baby is all grown up!’ Nicholas cried out from behind Gillian.
‘Ha! Ha! I won’t leave you mummy,’ Charlene said sarcastically and rolling her eyes.
‘I can’t believe you’re getting married!’ her stepmother exclaimed.
She was in her room in the condo. The weather was perfect. Charlene and Edison agreed to have the wedding outside on the beach. The guests were waiting downstairs. Edison was already at the stage. He was waiting for her. He wasn’t nervous at all. He was excited and happy.
‘Come on it’s time,’ her father said poking his head through the half closed door. When he saw her all dressed up he entered the room. ‘You’re so beautiful,’ he said.
She smiled close to tears. ‘I don’t want to ruin my make up so don’t try and make me cry,’ she warned them.
He came and gave her a hug. Gillian, her stepmother and her father left the room to give her five minutes alone. Nicholas stayed behind. ‘Do you want to runaway?’ he suggested. ‘I’ll help you.’
She laughed. ‘Don’t be silly! Why would I do that? I love Edison and I’m not afraid to live the rest of my life with him,’ she declared. ‘I can’t believe you would say such a thing!’
Nicholas took out his phone from behind. ‘See, you didn’t have to worry about a thing. She won’t runaway,’ he said over the phone. Charlene’s eyes widened.
‘Who’s that?’ she asked curiously looking at the phone intensely. ‘It better not be Edison!’
Nicholas quickly said bye and flipped his phone shut. ‘It wasn’t Edison,’ he lied.
‘Yeah, I believe you,’ she said with sarcasm. ‘If he thinks I’m going to runaway then I will.’
Nicholas gasped. ‘Please don’t,’ he begged.
She laughed. ‘Again, don’t be silly!’ He laughed but looked at her carefully if she was joking or not. ‘Now go,’ she ordered.
‘Are you sure you won’t runaway,’ he said.
‘Yes,’ she assured. ‘Now go.’
When he left she let out a deep breath. She walked over to the window. She pulled up the curtain just a little to see. She could see him. He was waiting patiently. At the row of chairs the entire guest were there seated. Everyone she knows is there. And everyone she recently met. Her aunts and uncles came all the way from England. Edison’s family was seated at the front row. Charlene had won their heart but they didn’t warm up to her. She was giving them time to get used to her.
Her gaze went back to Edison. He was grinning. Her heart fluttered just seeing him smiling and laughing. Nicholas was next to him talking. She assumed about her.
Edison suddenly looked up. She quickly let go of the curtain. She could see he was laughing. He knew she was looking.
Her five minutes were up just looking at Edison all that time. If she thought of running, which never came up, it was too late to do that. Her father came to escort her down. He was giving her way. Before they left the condo her father helped her to pull the veil down.
‘Are you sure you’re making the right choice?’ her father asked softly.
‘I wasn’t more than sure in my whole life,’ she answered straight from her heart.
He smiled and gave a kiss on her forehead before putting it down. He then linked his arm with her and walked outside. Edison stopped talking to Nicholas when the music started to play. He straightened himself up then watched her. He caught his breath when he saw her. She was breathtakingly beautiful.
When Charlene came to his side she took another deep breath and let it out slowly. She wasn’t nervous she just didn’t like the fact that everyone’s eyes was on her. But the thought was erased from her mind when she looked up at Edison.
She smiled. He smiled back at her. He took hold of her hand. ‘I’m the luckiest man alive!’ She blushed. ‘Breathtakingly beautiful,’ he commented.
The priest began the ceremony. Both Edison and Charlene couldn’t stop smiling. They looked like the happiest couple alive. They mesmerized the crowd. As usual her models were crying. Gillian and Joey joined in. The entire female guests were crying, even the reporters. All the guys grunted and muttered ‘here we go again,’
Laughingly Edison and Charlene made a run for the limo at the end. The female guests threw confetti and the male guests were silly stringing them. Gillian was silly stringing them too. She thought why does all the women have to throw confetti.
In the limo when they finally got there with confetti and silly strings on them they broke down in laughter. When the limo pulled out of the parking and drove to their destination they help each other taking the mess off them. Edison then helped Charlene take off her veil.
He suddenly kissed her. When they pulled away she asked, ‘what was that for?’
‘For being sexy,’ he grinned. ‘For being gorgeous. For being…’
Then it was Charlene who was kissing him. It was him asking, ‘what was that for?’ now.
‘For being drop dead gorgeous,’ she grinned. ‘For being a hunk and for being my husband.’
‘Okay you said it better than me,’ he admitted. ‘If we do it again you’d be sure I’ll say it much better.’
‘This isn’t a competition you know,’ she pointed out.
‘I know,’ he said. ‘You’ll never win me.’
She gave a snort. ‘You wanna bet?’ she raised her eyebrow challenging him.
‘No way!’ he quickly responded making her laugh out loud.
‘I love you,’ she suddenly blurted out.
‘I love you too,’ he softly spoke.
‘I love you more,’ she said. Her eyes were dancing with laughter.
‘Please,’ he snorted. ‘We’re married now I don’t have to carry on.’ She stared at him taken aback. She thought he meant that just because they was married he didn’t have to joke with her. ‘Now I can just go a head and kiss you all over,’ he pecked both her cheeks, ‘and I could touch you all over.’
She screamed with laughter and he groaned with pleasure.
