Chapter 16

A Cloying Addiction [Chapter 16]
(M18: Mature Content)
-------------------------------

Kale really wanted to get rid of Elisha Low. He knew it had to be her who told the police where he was, because he had seen them keeping guard around her house. That bitch. To think he always gave her such huge amounts of money, and now she actually turned against him and gave him away.

The only reason why he had not been caught yet was his location. However, it was also the reason why he had almost been caught. Choosing a hideout on that street right then wasn’t a clever idea, but he could see nowhere else to go at the moment. He had another secret hiding place he could go to, but it was too far away and would definitely hinder his movements.

The police hadn’t been able to track him down in any of the houses because he was technically not in any of them. He was under them.

Kale had specifically chosen to be under one of the houses in the middle, so it would be more convenient for him to get around. Of course, there existed the possibility that he would have been more easily spotted, but Kale was too good for that to happen. And he was right, so far, he had been moving in and out without even being spared a second glance by anyone, needless to say the police. He was becoming careless and reckless, but he still hadn’t lost his touch.

Kale’s underground hideout was straightforward and easily accessible. But that was, of course, if you even knew how to get there in the first place. It was linked to the surface by huge underground pipes, something like where Raphael, Leonardo, Donatello and Michelangelo lived, but there was another opening that led to the outside world as well. Kale had built that himself, and it surfaced in a dilapidated shed that had been unused for decades.

He knew that the residential area in Pullet Close disallowed anyone to build basements, which was another reason he had chosen it. Because anyone who checked for basements would only check the houses for any secret entrance or anything. But unless anyone delved underground to look, no one would ever find him there. Besides, the authorities were probably too lax to do anything like that. He highly doubted that the detectives would take this into consideration upon knowing that it was against the law to dig underground here. Kale’s hideout location was practically perfect, absolutely flawless, and he knew that.

In a while he would be going out for the fourth one. He didn’t believe that Ashley and Owodog wouldn’t come running to present themselves in front of him. As detectives and part of the police department, their jobs were to enforce the law, eliminate crime and help the people. They would not possibly let him take any more innocent lives. Three had already been lost. The fourth one was pending, but Kale was sure that it was a definite life lost because there wasn’t enough time for him to do anything before that kill even if Ashley and Owodog were to appear right then.

Kale didn’t like not being in control of the situation. It put him in a lot of risk, and it meant that he had to be doubly alert. He preferred to have things planned out nicely – the master plan and back-up plans. It made his job a lot easier, and it also made it less dangerous or risky. With plans, Kale would know that he had covered all bases and even if something went wrong, he would immediately know how to salvage the situation.

He would have to think of a way to take his revenge on Elisha Low as soon as possible. But for then, it was time to head towards his planned next victim before it was too late.

-----------------------------------------------------------

Contrary to his previous statement, Owodog didn’t take till before evening. In fact, they were done in just two hours, mainly because Ashley was eager to go out and nab Kale Chou. Both of them knew that the risks were huge and it was highly possible that none of them would walk away from Kale alive. But even so, they were prepared. Owodog had always been willing to give up his life for Ashley. And he had never been more willing to do that than now. The same went for Ashley. If she were to die now, she’d have no regrets.

After all, Monkey was already gone.

“Can I ask you something?” Owodog said, as he fingered with Ashley’s hair in the shower.

“Yeap.”

“Why the sudden realization?” He knew it was stupid to ask that right after they had sex but he wanted to know.

Ashley looked at him through the spray of the shower, attempting to work out an answer. She opened her mouth to say something, but no words came out and she dropped her head, so as to not face him.

Owodog turned down the spray so neither of them needed to fight with the noise. He cupped her bare shoulders and lowered his head to match her at eye level. “Ash, I’m not trying to doubt you or anything… I just need to know that you…” His voice trailed off as he tried to find the right words.

She looked up at him. “From the time we first met, you have always been there for me. I know this would probably sound cheesy and unintelligent, but that’s the truth. I did a lot of thinking yesterday, about Monkey, Yu and you. And I realized that I couldn’t deny that you were the one I have been depending on for so many things. I can’t not have you in my life, Ao Quan. You’re the one I need most. And I now know that,” she said quietly.

Owodog knew she wasn’t kidding him. He knew that her feelings for him were as real as what she had for Monkey. He knew that he had finally won this three-men fight among himself, Fabien and Monkey. He was content enough, but the phrase ‘curiosity killed the cat’ didn’t come about without any reason. In Owodog’s case though, curiosity was going to kill the dog.

Knowing very well that he was probably going to piss her off, Owodog continued asking more questions.

“Ash, can I ask you another thing?”

She looked at him with puzzled, questioning eyes. Pushing away his hands, she stepped out of the shower and grabbed a bathrobe to put on. Then she went out into the room, her hair still dripping water.

Owodog took the only towel left and wrapped it around his waist before following her out. She was standing at the balcony and her back view was sad, and possibly lonely. He shouldn’t have asked her so many things then, but then there were so many queries he had in his mind. He ambled across the room and slowly reached her side. “I’m sorry. It’s just that…” Owodog stared at his hands, his mind in a blur, “Fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck, FUCK!”

“I know I haven’t been giving you much reason to trust me when it comes to… love. I’m indecisive, I’m stubborn, and I’m always blowing hot and cold at you. I should be the one who’s saying sorry. I took far too long to face up to my true feelings. And because of that, you and Yu had to suffer. I knew my being with Monkey didn’t help things at all. I’m sorry, Ao Quan.” Ashley faltered, “I did love Monkey, in case you’re wondering. I loved him a lot. But with you, there’s just something else. I can’t explain it.” She bit her lips and looked at Owodog. “You probably wanted to ask me something about Yu, right?”

Owodog swung his head around, sending droplets flying in all directions. Ashley ducked to avoid them. “Um,” he started, “Yeah.”

“I can tell you honestly that I did feel attracted to him. He’s hot, okay? And I guess he’s the type who can make any girl want him. I would have considered him, seeing as he felt differently about me. He has this thing about him that makes you want to… know more about him, like if you don’t, you’d be missing out on something… great. You know what I mean?”

Owodog nodded. He had always wanted to know how she felt towards Fabien; ever since the first day they became rivals in love.

“If not for you, I might have just ended up with him. Or, you know, maybe have a one-night-stand with him or something because he’s probably fantastic in bed—”

“WHAT?” Owodog cut in, his voice raised as he stared at her.

Ashley stared back at him, her eyes widened. Then she broke into a smile.

Owodog growled. “You! Stop making fun of me.” He turned and leaned against the railing, his arms crossed in front of his chest.

Ashley leaned sideways towards Owodog and dropped her voice. “He does kiss a lot better than you, though.”

“Tell me you’re joking.”

“I’m not. Every single word of what I had said just now is true. Well, except for the one-night-stand part.”

“AH SHIT!” Owodog buried his face in his hands. “Nooooo! Now I regret wanting to know how you felt about Yu.”

Ashley didn’t know if she should laugh. The previous topic they were on had been too serious, yet Owodog’s childish actions were too amusing.

“I had a bet with him.” Owodog mumbled.

“What bet?”

“Who gave you a better kiss…” He muttered.

“You guys discussed about kissing ME? Oh, God. Wait, is there something else as well?”

“You don’t want to know,” Owodog groused.

“Not that again. Come on, just say it, puppy.”

Owodog stole a glance at Ashley. She was still staring at him with eyes narrowed. He wondered how did the situation evolve from her confessing her feelings so earnestly to him to himself confessing about their secret bets about her to her.

“We… kind of… made a bet about… about…”

Ashley gasped. He didn’t even have to complete his sentence. She knew what he was going to say. “I take back EVERY SINGLE WORD that I said about you just now! You guys are creeps! To think I bared my heart and practically everything else to you because I thought you… You… You… ARGH.”

She stomped back into the room, feeling somewhat used. Bundling her hair up, she stripped off her bathrobe in front of the bed and started putting on her clothes.

Owodog felt positively turned on again for what seemed to be the millionth time that day. He cleared his throat and said lamely, “Where are you going?”

“Away from you,” Ashley said, “To look for Kale Chou.”

“You’re not going anywhere without me!” Owodog announced.

“I am! I’m not going anywhere with a pervert who discusses such… private stuff with… another pervert.”

“But this pervert loves you from the bottom of his heart with all sincerity!”

“Okay, since you love me so much and like to discuss about such stuff with other people, you might want to consider going to Yu and ask him how to kiss better. Humph.” Ashley snapped, pulling on her jeans. In a moment she was fully clothed and ready to stomp out of the room. She stared at Owodog, waiting to see if he had anything to say.

“Sorry, we shouldn’t have used you as part of the subject matter when it comes to love, lust and the likes,” Owodog muttered.

Ashley gritted her teeth and blinked at him, expressionless. Then she turned and headed for the door.

Owodog grabbed her hand.

Ashley sighed. “If you get dressed now, puppy, we can leave together.”

Owodog groaned.

“What is it again?” She spun round to face him, looking very impatient.

“It’s too late to stop him from making his second kill of the day now,” he was speaking in a slur now, and Ashley saw that clouded look in his eyes again. “Why don’t we leave at night instead?” He pulled her closer and poked her through the towel.

“I don’t care! And stop poking me with your thing! You said just now that we’d leave before evening! So you’d better stay true to your word. I want to go out and get Kale Chou RIGHT NOW. If you don’t want to, I’ll go myself.” Yet she didn’t budge from her position.

“But it isn’t evening!” Owodog protested. “It’s four o’clock!”

“Evening starts at four,” Ashley said indignantly, avoiding Owodog’s gaze.

“It doesn’t. Evening starts at six fucking P.M.,” he rebutted in a steely tone.

“Fuck you, puppy. Do you have any idea how fucking much I hate you?” Ashley looked fixedly squarely into his gleaming eyes.

“As a matter of fact… Yes, I do.” Owodog said, with a slight seductive tone.

Ashley bit her lips, stuck in a dilemma. “What if we can’t stop him before the one for the next morning?”

“Not if we wave ourselves in front of him. He’s probably hiding at Pullet Close, so if we hang around there… He should get to us. I’ve got a map, and I know where our guys are stationed. We should be able to get past detection.”

Ashley raised her brows in awe at how professional he still managed to sound.

“Stop looking at me like that. In case you haven’t realized, you are causing me a lot of misery.” He looked positively sulky.

Ashley sighed. “Are we going to die?”

“No. Not if we can outsmart him,” Owodog answered truthfully, “But I’m going to die if you are going to continue depriving me, you sadistic woman.”

“But if we’re not going to die, we might as well get this over and done with. Then after that, we’ll be kind of free… You know?”

“Okay. We ARE going to die.” Owodog said in a totally straight, yet impatient tone. Then, before Ashley could make any more protests or further arguments, he grabbed her and swept her back onto the bed. He flung his towel away and practically lunged at her.

His naked body was pressed against her fully clothed one as he sucked at the side of her neck where it angled to her shoulder.

“Oh my God,” Ashley breathed, her knuckles gone white by gripping the sheets too tightly. This was a new experience for her, because the level of nakedness was usually the opposite way round. But she liked this a lot more, and she finally understood why men always did that – it was a lot more titillating. She let go of the sheets as he stopped nibbling her neck.

They looked at each other for a brief moment, and then almost as suddenly as he stopped, Owodog swiftly pushed up her tight-fitting tee until it was bunched above her breasts. His eyes lingered on the scar on her belly, and he wondered why it could look so goddamn sexy. He traced his finger along it for a moment and Ashley’s breath caught in her throat. Then he seemed to remember what he was about to say initially before he got distracted by her scar. “I hope you’ll wear a bra when we go out to get Kale later on.”

Ashley chuckled as her hands closed around his sex. “Do you think I won’t?”

Then it hit him just before he lost his power of thought and speech. She had known she wouldn’t be going anywhere right then. “Fuck you for misleading me and scaring the shit out of me just now, Ash.”

“Yeah, please.”
