A Cloying Addiction [Chapter 7]
(M18: Sexual References)
------------------------------

The next couple of days appeared to be rather uneventful. Ashley was glad for the short break and Owodog was glad that nothing added to his burden. Fabien was relatively unaffected, except Sam seemed to be destroying his furniture.

Ashley was terribly apologetic and despite Fabien telling her umpteen times that it was okay, Ashley still felt bad that Sam couldn’t stop scratching the couch and the tables.

-----------------------------------------------------------

Kale was feeling pleased with himself. The bottles of sedatives he had brought had been just the right amount, seeing as they worked exactly to what he calculated them to be. After the past few days of sailing and flying, he had finally touched down on his destination.

There were two objectives of his current trip. One was to get rid of Monkey; the other was to carry out a project. That was part of the reason he chose to go to South Africa. A client had requested for him to eliminate some old man who held some kind of high-ranking position in his company in seven days’ time. Four of those days had passed in planning the assassination and while he was busy doing other things, like springing the surprise attack in Richard Xie’s house.

For the next few days, he was first going to stake out the old man’s house. Then he would make the necessary adjustments to his plan and then carry it out before the sixth day is up. On the seventh day, he would be relaxing and appreciating great wine and food in some posh restaurant. After that, he would see to the disposal of Richard Xie. It was the highlight of his trip to such distant land.

Monkey wasn’t as lucky as Kale. He wasn’t even half as fortunate as Luna. At least Luna would find peace in the afterlife. But he wasn’t going to join her soon. He probably wouldn’t know it yet, because he was still unconscious, but he was most probably going to spend the rest of his life in misery. He would be miles away, oceans apart from his hometown and Ashley.

The rest of his life would not be his worry as yet, because the next few days would be as bad as he could possibly imagine. If he could imagine it.

Kale was going to keep him on sedatives and locked up so he would not be a disturbance to Kale or anyone else.

Not that Monkey himself would know a thing, though.

Kale unlocked the door to his hotel room with a card key and entered the elegantly designed room with a nature theme. The balcony overlooked the magnificent-looking nature reserve that stretched into the horizon. Kale placed his bags onto a shelf specially designed for that purpose. He opened the curtains and let the sunlight from the setting sun flood his room. The soft, orange glow cast shadows over everything.

Scrutinizing the room, he finally decided it was safe and met his standards. He walked to his bags and opened one of them to take out an Apple MacBook Pro and a ring-bound file that held a considerably thick stack of papers. Setting them down on the table, he got to work immediately. There was absolutely no time to waste.

-----------------------------------------------------------

Ashley would be devastated if she knew what Monkey was going through and would go through. In fact, she was already rather shattered by his absence and the fact that she had no freaking idea what had happened to him. There was no doubt that she had fallen ill because of that. But she hadn’t stopped thinking about him. Monkey had been her pillar for the past year and she absolutely couldn’t imagine life without him when she was with him. Now, all of a sudden, boom! Without any warning at all, he had disappeared.

She wondered if it would have been the same if Monkey just left for Japan. She would miss him like hell, but at least she would know that he was safe! At least she would still be able to keep in contact with him. At least she would be able to find solace in the fact that they had agreed to this separation and they had separated amicably. But that wasn’t what had happened now.

Monkey had been taken from her. The truth tore at her heart.

Fabien had heard her sobs in the middle of the night and many times he felt like running to her and putting his arm around her and telling her that everything would be fine. But every time he resisted that urge for fear of jeopardizing their friendship. And much as his philanderer genes told him otherwise, Fabien knew it would be unfair to Ashley, Monkey and even himself if he were to take advantage of Monkey’s disappearance.

To tell the truth, Fabien wasn’t sure how long more his restrains on himself could last. His testosterones were humming in his brains and because he was no one else but Fabien Yang, subduing his sexual drive was somehow taking a toll on his creative juices. He desperately needed to release it yet he couldn’t find a way because Ashley’s presence had viciously crushed his appetite for other women.

If Owodog sounded like the only one without any real problems, then he had to have put on a very convincing façade. In the past few days, he had done a lot. He had called up friends from all over and used connections he had in the police force to broaden and intensify the search for Monkey. He had no idea if this would ever result in anything good, but Owodog believed that everything – anything at all – would be worth a try. Right then, he wouldn’t give up on the slightest bit of clue that might really lead him to Monkey.

Owodog had said on a whim that anything important to Ashley was of the same significance to him. And he had said that he would get the case solved. Although he only told that to Fabien, he knew that he had to keep true to his word. Sure Ashley was important to him; but whatever he was doing, it was essentially for Ashley and Monkey. Owodog thought he might be one of the few people in the world who genuinely operated according to the saying that goes something like, if you love someone, then you’ll do anything for him or her to be happy, including giving him or her up.

Besides the whole Ashley/Monkey thing, Owodog still had the Kale Chou case on hand. Or at least, what he classified as a Kale Chou case – the murder at 67 Activus Drive. It was, sadly, not going anywhere. The Rose was as usual careful about not leaving evidence and Owodog hated that as much as he loathed the fact that so many things had to happen at the same time.

Everyday he would go out in search of evidence based on flimsy tip-offs. Not even the minutest piece of information led to anything concrete. He had been working alone because Ashley wasn’t fit to go along and even if she were, he wouldn’t have let her and would have insisted that she take a longer break and have more rest. Landon and Ben were working on another case and so there wasn’t anyone Owodog could drag along. As much as he hated working alone, Owodog had no other choice. The bad thing about being without a companion was not the loneliness, but the dangers that were brought about by not having someone else who could look out for you and fight with you.

Therefore, Owodog didn’t have much free time on his hands except to go home and sleep. He hadn’t seen Ashley since the day he left her at Fabien’s. He hadn’t been to Wolf’s Tooth for a drink since the day he got drunk and Fabien had to drive him home. He hadn’t spoken to Fabien since the day he brought Ashley to him. He hadn’t even seen his boss for the past few days.

Sometimes Owodog wondered why he became a detective. The process of investigation was always intriguing and fun. The idea of finding someone dead was always nauseating though, even if he didn’t mind. And of course, there were cases like Kale Chou’s that made him wish he hadn’t chosen this route for himself.

-----------------------------------------------------------

Owodog walked into a sleazy strip-club he was sure Kale would never step foot in. He looked at the small piece of paper in his hands again and confirmed that he was in the right place. Scrunching it up, he stuffed it into his pocket and carried on moving forward. He could feel curious stares on him as he made long purposeful strides through the seedy bar and rough crowd. Finally, as he neared the T-stage, he saw the person he was looking for. At least, Owodog was quite positive it was the correct person, for the neon lights and blinding spotlights and the heaps of make-up didn’t exactly showcase the girl as she had looked in her mug shot in the police’s database.

Owodog spotted an empty seat somewhere near where she was dancing on the T-stage and sat himself down. He called for a beer to let himself blend in with the other smutty old men and appear less conspicuous. He caught Elisha Low’s eye just as she had finished her routine and was moving backstage to get dressed. She shot him a seductive look upon noticing the interest he had expressed in her. He returned a look that was equally flirtatious.

It was seldom that Owodog had to use his charm to get what he wanted but there were exceptions. There were also times when one person was enough for the job. Other times interrogation by force didn’t work. This time it was all of those. Owodog wondered what extent he’d have to go to in order to pry the necessary and relevant information from the stripper. He hoped it wouldn’t be too much, though there were no boundaries stated when it comes to detective work. Owodog didn’t know if he should be glad that he was a man.

A slim arm slunk around Owodog’s waist from the back all of a sudden. “Hi handsome, were you looking for me?”

Owodog pushed Ashley out of his mind and put on his best one-night-stand face. “Hey pretty, I was just thinking that I’d like to buy you a drink, if you don’t mind.”

“That’s awfully boring, but since you’re so cute…” Elisha let her sentence trail off as she went around Owodog’s side and made herself comfortable on his lap. Her 32C breasts were propped up right in front of his face and she knew perfectly well how alluring she was as she crossed her legs and stroked his thigh with her free hand that wasn’t hooked around Owodog’s neck.

Owodog smiled as he met her eyes again. Then he waved to the bartender and signalled for another beer. “I hope you like beer.”

Elisha frowned and her lips were thrust forward in a pout. “Is that the best you can do, honey?”

“Maybe, maybe not…” He replied, his eyes fixed on her lips. His own were parted slightly.

She leaned towards him and brushed against his lips with her glossed, full ones. “So what can I do for you?”

Owodog covered her lips with his and they kissed for a brief moment before Elisha pulled back.

“You’re the first man I’m kissing in four days,” She said before continuing the kiss.

The kiss was rough and furious. When they finally separated, both were breathing heavily.

“So, tell me, who’s the lucky man before myself?” Owodog asked, his fingers casually twirling around the ribbon tied in front of her cleavage on her revealing top that left little to the imagination. Not that there was anything left for anyone to imagine though.

Elisha giggled. “He’s the most charming yet elusive man I’ve ever met. He calls himself Mr K. He’s fantastic.”

Owodog pretended to frown, “How perfect is he? Am I not any better than him?”

“He’s a little shorter than you. But he’s got this scar at the bottom of his right ear that’s incredibly sexy. And he’s got a gun.”

Bingo, Owodog thought. His efforts wouldn’t be in vain now. “I’ve got one too.”

Elisha threw her head back and laughed. “No, not that one. He’s got a real gun, you know, bang bang!”

“Aww damn,” Owodog said, “So what can I do to make it up to you since I don’t have that bang bang?”

Elisha got off Owodog and appeared to be deep in thought as her hand nonchalantly roamed the insides of his thighs. It came dangerously close to his crotch area but stopped short of it.

Owodog tilted her head towards him and his gaze bore right into her. “What’s your decision?” He had lowered his voice into a deep, provocative drawl.

“I’ll be yours exclusively if you prove to be better than Mr K.” Elisha whispered into his ears.

Owodog smirked as he got off the chair and allowed himself to be led away by the 22-year-old who boldly strutted around with all her assets on display at night but was modest and perhaps even dull in the day when she was a totally different girl working as an unadventurous librarian at the community library. He was both gleeful and worried at the same time. Gleeful because he knew he was going to get some insights and insider information on his best friend Kale Chou. Worried because he wasn’t sure if he could get out of having a one-night-stand especially if he wanted all the unshared titbits and undiscovered knowledge that would definitely be of tremendous help to him…

-----------------------------------------------------------

The medicine had left her feeling drowsy as it always did and Ashley quietly closed the door behind her and got back into bed. She was almost asleep when the door opened and a dark figure walked in. She stirred slightly but did not bother to open her eyes.

Then she felt something wet probing her mouth and her tank top being pushed up to reveal her breasts. Two strong hands moved to caress them and Ashley was suddenly acutely aware of the dark figure crouching over her. Hardly rousing from her sleep, she muttered, “Monkey, stop it. I’m very tired…”

There was no verbal reply but obviously the dark figure didn’t stop either. He didn’t kiss her mouth anymore but started trailing kisses all the way to her belly button. The hands slowly worked their way down and tugged her shorts down to expose her underwear.

It was only when he twisted his fingers around her panties when Ashley regained her alertness and realized that whoever was touching her, it wasn’t Monkey. Because Monkey was still missing.

Suddenly awake, her eyelids fluttered open and she remembered where she was. Her hands moving quickly to get Fabien’s away from hers, she pushed him away.

“What the fuck are you trying to do?” Ashley shouted, as her right hand instinctively reached out to give him a tight, hard slap on his face.

She hastily pulled the t-shirt back down to cover herself and yanked the covers around herself.

Fabien had retreated from the bed and was slowly slinking away out of the room. “I’m sorry,” was all he said before the door closed.

Ashley was in shock. If she hadn’t awakened just now... She didn’t even want to think of what might have happened. Owodog had trusted him; she had trusted him. Yet he… Ashley held the covers around herself tightly. She thought of Monkey and tears began to roll down her cheeks. Picking up her cell, she called Owodog’s number and hoped he would answer.
