Chapter 19

Broken Promise

Ron woke up to find Michelle still there. She was sitting in the chair next to his bed with her head resting on Ron's left arm, fast asleep. He looked at her in her clothes, he had never received the answer as to why she was dressing up for the past two weeks. However, the question gave him an uneasy feeling for some reason. He tried to move his arm which was numb from under Michelle without disturbing her with little sucess; it woke her up.

"Sorry, my arm was feeling numb. I already broke one arm, I kinda need the other one."

Michelle gave a sheepish smile as she yawned, "What time is it?"

Ron looked at the clock which hung on the wall, "It's exactly nine in the morning."

Michelle nodded after receiving the information.

"WAIT! Aren't you late for work??!" asked Ron.

Shaking her head, Michelle replied, "I took this week and next week off. I thought you would need somebody to take care of you."

"But aren't you worried about not getting promoted?"

"Boss says that we both have to go on a business trip to make up for the time we're missing."

The door opened as the nurse came in, "Mr. Ng, the doctor says that you can leave the hospital anytime you want. Your arm should be healed and he will be taking the sling off of it now. As for your leg, we will give you crutches. Ms. Yip, please come with me to sign some paperwork."

**AT TAVIA AND MICHELLE'S APARTMENT-11:30 AM**
*RING RING*
Tavia fumbled around at her bedside table to answer the phone.
"Hello?!" she mumbled into the reciever.

"Hey Tavia, it's Leila! Did you hear that the evaluations and auditions were changed to this Sunday!?"

"THIS Sunday!?" yelled Tavia.

"Yeah! So there are classes today one final time before Sunday to touch up on our skills. They start in half an hour." replied her friend.

"Ughhh, I'll meet you outside the theater." she replied and hung up the phone.

**AT A&T LAWFIRM**
"...So I want to have custody of my dog since we're having a divorce anyways!" demanded a man dressed in sweats, which was quite unappropriate to be wearing in a lawfirm.

The lady on the other hand which was sitting across from him was dressed quite differently. She had on a suit and was in full business attire along with hair and makeup to perfection.

"As you can see, this is EXACTLY why we're having a divorce. I cannot communicate with him at all, he's so demanding and does not listen to my point of view at all." the woman drawled.

Raymond who was sitting with the bickering couple and another lawyer spoke up, "Well, Mr. Cheng, we'll need to see who can take better care of this dog in order to see who gains custody of it."

"My client is fully able to take care of the dog. He's the one that feeds it and walks it." replied the lawyer which sat across from him.

"He wouldn't be able to even live if it weren't for my money to buy it food. That man spends every cent he has on the lottery!" snaps his wife.

"Mrs. Cheng, all of this will be settled in court. Please don't be so infuriated and sit back down." said Raymond calmly.

"Fine, but don't me call Mrs. Cheng since I'm getting a divorce from that man anyways. As you can see, the paperwork addresses me as Ms. Leung."

Sighing, Ray nodded, "Right..Ms.Leung, so we need both of you to sign these papers..."

**TWENTY MINUTES LATER**
The four individuals left the room.
"I'll see you in court Lawyer Lam." said Mr. Cheng's lawyer.

Snorting, Mrs. Cheng spoke, "You might as well not show up when we're going to win anyways. Hmph!" with that, she strolled into the elevator and left.

"See what kind of attitude she has!? I want custody of the dog!" Mr. Cheng spoke to his lawyer as they left in another elevator.

*RING RING*
Ray fumbled around in his pocket for his phone.
"Hello?"

"Hello, Raymond? It's mom, Ron's leaving the hospital today. We're thinking of going to a restaurant to eat to celebrate. It's going to be at Jade Restaurant at 8 o'clock."

"Oh, really? I didn't know Ron was leaving the hospital. Ok, I'll see you tonight, bye."

After hanging up, Ray dialed in Tavia's cell number.

"Hello Tavia?"

"Hey."

"Where are you right now?"

"I'm at the theater, there was practice today. I'm just getting ready to leave."

"Ok, I'll drop by and pick you up ok?"

**FIFTEEN MINUTES LATER**
Ray drove up to the curb where Tavia was standing, waiting.

"Ron's leaving the hospital today."

"That's great! We didn't even visit him since he got into the hospital, maybe we should get him a gift?"

"Ok, but we only have two hours to find something."

"Why do we only have two hours?"

"We're supposed to be having dinner with him at 8."

"Just Ron...or everyone?" asked Tavia.

Raymond realized what she was notioning at, "Everyone."

"Do you remember what you promised me?" she asked, looking at him.

"I remember."

Tavia smiled, "I wonder how everyone would react when they find out!?" she said excitedly.

"Why don't you think of something to buy Ron?" replied Raymond as he stared straight ahead.

**AT A SHOPPING MALL**
Raymond and Tavia were window shopping, trying to find a gift for Ron. As they were walking by a store, something caught Tavia's eye. She took Ray by the hand and led him towards the window.

"Look, it's so pretty!" she exclaimed, pointing at a crystal which was a small vase with pink roses in it. The pricetag was marked $1000 HK dollars.

"It's so expensive and it doesn't do anything. Come on, we have to find a present for Ron."

Raymond continued to walk and look at the other stores, Tavia glanced at the crystal again before walking off to follow him.

**AT JADE RESTAURANT- 8 0'CLOCK**
Raymond, Tavia, Michelle, and Ron sat at the table along with their parents.

"So, here's a red envelope for good luck so you don't end up breaking anything else!" joked Mrs. Yeung, handing it to Ron.

Nobody laughed at the joke.

"Here's your presen." said Raymond, handing Ron a wrapped box.

After ripping off the wrapping paper, he opened the box to find a net.

"...a net??" asked Ron with a puzzled look on his face.

"Yeah, since your leg still hasn't healed, you can use the net to get something so you don't have to get up." replied Raymond with a laugh.

"Oh...thanks?" replied Ron.

"Yeah originally Raymond and I were gonna split and buy you one big present but then I thought the net was a bad idea. So, I got you something else." Tavia handed Ron a fairly large box.

He opened it to find a black water crystal stone. Everyone marveled over it.

"I heard that it helped bring good health." explained Tavia.

"Oh, he wouldn't be needing that with Michelle taking care of him. So what do you have to give to Ron?" taunted Mr. Ng.

Michelle turned red with the comment, "Here, this is for you." she handed him a small box which was wrapped with a bow a bit reluctantly.

He took off the bow, unwrapped the paper, and opened the box to reveal a black water crystal bracelet.

"Another one? What a coincidence!" said Mr. Yeung.

"Thanks." said Ron.

"Well, it's obvious the stone is better because it's bigger! Then it'll bring more good health!" said Mrs. Lam.

"But then you can't bring that with you everywhere. The bracelet you can wear it all the time and so it can bring you good health continiously!" Mrs. Ng reasoned.

"Which present do YOU like better?" asked Mr. Yeung suggestively.

"It doesn't sound like he's talking about the presents though! Hm...but both presents are good though." replied Mr. Ng.

"Actually, I think I need to tell everyone something..."Tavia began, "Raymond and I are..."

"..Are going to a wedding tomorrow! We're going to be part of it as the bestman and maid of honor." said Raymond cutting her off.

Tavia turned to look at Raymond who had shifted his glance from her to the floor. She couldn't believe what he had just said, he had promised her several times that they would tell everyone about their relationship.

"...Yeah we are, I kind of forgot something I had to prepare for tomorrow..I have to go. Um..yea, so uh, bye everyone." Tavia said, picking up her jacket and left the room.

Tavia pushed the doors open and a gust of wind came through as she stepped outside. She saw a familiar car stopped at a red light in front of her.

"I think I should go to, she might need a ride." said Raymond and left to chase after Tavia.

Tavia walked towards the car and got into the passenger's side.

"You should really lock your doors."

The driver turned to face her, "Tavia, what..."

"Don't ask, just drive Bosco." she replied.

The light turned green as the silver Mercedes-Benz sportscar sped off.

Raymond shoved the doors of the restaurant open and walked out into the street. He looked both ways and around, but Tavia was nowhere to be seen.
