Chapter 29

Good Intentions, Bad Intentions

Feeling the warm sun shining through the window, onto his face, Ron slowly opened his eyes. Looking at the clock, the two hands showed that it was 10 in the morning. Jolting up and out of bed, a sense of uneasiness flooded him; something was wrong. Seeing his clothes on the floor and the bed a mess, the events of the night before came to him. After dressing, he opened the bedroom door to find Michelle sitting in the livingroom on the couch fully dressed, with her back towards him. Deciding that he couldn't stand in the doorway forever, he slowly walked towards the livingroom. Passing by the diningroom table, he saw a plate of eggs and sausages with a glass of milk on it.

"You're awake." commented Michelle in a monotonous voice without looking at Ron.

Approaching the doorway of the livingroom, Ron could see the side of Michelle's face. He could tell she was crying with all her makeup smeared all over her face.

"I made breakfast..." she said in a near whisper.

Sitting down on the chair in front of her, Ron looked at Michelle.

"About last night..."

Looking straight at him, Michelle's eyes welled up with tears, "You don't have to explain, what is there to explain? Because I know no matter what I do for you, no matter how much I change, the one you like would never be me..it will always be her."

Getting up, she walked across the livingroom and left the apartment. Ron staring at the closed door and then looked at the plate of breakfast which sat on the diningroom table.

**AT THE THEATER**
Tavia and Leila stood at the center of the stage, waiting for Michael to give them directions but he was busily chatting with the lighting crew.

"So Raymond is going out with this Shirley person?"

"Yeah."

"So...you're cool with that?"

Tavia saw as Bosco entered the theater and walked up towards the stage, "Why shouldn't I be?"

Following Tavia's glance, Leila grinned and rested an arm on her friend's shoulder, "So, what do you think of him?"

"Who?"

"Him, Bosco. I mean, you told him you'll think it over. Come on Tavia, he's a great catch! He's nice, polite, and practically any girl's dream guy. If I weren't going out with Edwin, I'll take Bosco away from you in a second!"

Tavia hit Leila on the head with her script, "Hey! First of all, what do you mean take away? We're not even together. Secondly, you should be careful, always meeting guys online!"

Leila rubbed her head and frowned. "Yeah, yeah I know."

"Why are you three hours late!?" exclaimed Michael.

Everyone in the theater stopped in their tracks and turned their attention to Michael and Bosco, who looked like he was a deer caught in the headlights.

"I..." began Bosco.

"Sorry, director! Last night I asked Bosco to help me go over my script so that's why he was late today." cut in Tavia.

"Uh..yea! That's why I was late."

Michael looked from Bosco to Tavia, "You two are lucky you have the best acting abilities here and I can't tell if you're lying. Now get to work!"

"Yes director!" everyone said in unision.

**AT GOLDEN ENTERPRISES**
Ron sat staring at his computer screen, he couldn't concentrate. Looking over at the clock, it was 12:55 and Michelle's cubicle was still empty. He had already left three messages on her phone about the important meeting at 1:00.

"Meeting!" announced the boss's secretary.

All of his coworkers got up from their desks and filed into the meetingroom at the same time like robots. Looking at the doorway towards the elevators, Ron followed them into the room.

Everyone sat in a seat around the large oval table. Their boss entered the room and sat in the big leather chair at the head of it.

"Mr. Boss."

Taking a seat, Mr. Boss looked around, "Where's Michelle?"

Nobody knew her whereabouts so they kept silent.

"Mr. Boss, she felt sick and left before." lied Ron.

"No she didn't, she didn't come in at all today." protested a coworker.

Just then, the doubledoors flung open and Michelle walked in. She was neatly dressed and there was no trace of unhappiness on her face. Giving a slight smile, she apologized for her lateness and took a seat at the end, far from where Ron was.

"Ok, now that everyone's here, I can begin," stated Mr. Boss. "As many of you may know, there has been talk of promotions lately. There are only two spots to be filled in other branches of Golden Enterprises for assistant director. I will pass out envelopes, whoever has a black piece of paper is getting the position. As for the ones who have the white pieces of paper, you are not being promoted." he stopped to chuckle, "Clever idea isn't it? It sure is better than announcing it."

Everyone groaned at another one of Mr. Boss's "clever ideas" as they took the envelopes with their names on it.

"Ok, on the count of three, everyone open their envelopes! 1-2-3!!" yelled Mr. Boss.

Everyone unsealed their envelopes and took out the papers. After looking, they all looked around to see who got the promotions. Ron and Michelle sat in their seats with the black papers in their hand.

"As everyone can see, Ron and Michelle got promoted. So, would you please leave the room, I have important information for them regarding their new job s."

Their coworkers piled out of the door as they discussed the promotion.

"Ron, Michelle! Why don't you two come and sit up here?" asked Mr. Boss as he motioned to the two seats next to him, "You'll eventually be sitting up here because of your new positions anyways."

Sitting in their new seats, Ron and Michelle waited for their boss to begin.

"So basically, there are two branches of Golden Enterprises which need an assistant director. One is this office, here in Hong Kong and the other one is in New York, the United States. The United States one is only for a month though and temporary. After our second branch in Hong Kong is built, whoever took the job for the United States will be transferred back here. Now, you will have to decide between the two of you, who wants to take which."

"Mr. Boss, if that is the case, I would like to decline the promotion and let Michelle have the position in Hong Kong."

"I don't think there's a need for that Mr. Ng."

Ron was taken back with the formality Michelle addressed him.

"I would take the job in the United States." declared Michelle.

"Very well," Mr. Boss got up from his chair, "You will be leaving tomorrow." he said simply and left the room.

Michelle got up to leave, walking pass Ron but was stopped by him.

"Why are you doing this?"

"I think the time that I'm away would do everyone some good." replied Michelle and walked out.

**AT 5 O'CLOCK PM**
Raymond escorted his client out of the office to the elevators. Turning around to enter the office, his cell phone rang.

"Hello?"

"Hey Ray! It's Jack, have any time to go out for a drink?"

"Yeah sure, meet you at Paradise Bar in fifteen minutes?"

"Ok sure, see you then!"

**OUTSIDE GOLDEN ENTERPRISES**
Michelle walked out of the building as stuffed some paperwork into her bag. Preparing to buy some items for the trip, she walked towards the parking lot.

"Michelle Yip!"

Turning around, she saw Shirley walking towards her. As usual, she was dressed in a revealing top and tight pants.

Michelle siged impatiently,"What do you want? Make it quick."

"I think you'll be interested though. Although I know that you dislike me and to be honest, I don't like you much either. But I believe we both have something in common..."

Michelle looked at the parking lot and then at her watch, "What's that?"

"I know that you and Tavia Yeung aren't the best of friends right now. She's stealing your guy and mine. Meet me tonight at seven at the dock..."

Looking up from her watch, Michelle watched as Shirley walked away, "Crazy."

**IN SHIRLEY'S APARTMENT BUILDING**
Walking pass the grafittied walls, Shirley stopped in front of an apartment. Opening the flimsy wooden door, she found the apartment a mess with newspapers and beer cans littered on the floor. Closing the door behind her, she walked into one of the bedrooms, "Kenneth!"

Her cousin covered his head with a blanket.

Throwing the blanket off of him, Shirley yelled, "Wake up! Guess what I did today!" sitting herself in a flimsy folding chair.

Sitting up, Kenneth Ma gave his full attention to his cousin, "No way! You actually went through with the plan?"

She grinned, "If I thought up of it, of course I can go through with it."

A smirk appeared on Kenneth's face, "That Tavia Yeung will pay for rejecting me! She wouldn't have a good day as long as we go through with our plan!"

**OUTSIDE THE THEATER**
Bosco walked down the many steps of the theater to his parked car.

Tavia ran down the steps, "Bosco!"

He turned around, "Hey."

"Hey. So, where are you going now?"

"I'm going to go home, I'm supposed to have dinner with my parents. I almost forgot to thank you for before, if it weren't for you, Michael would have made me stay to rehearse till daybreak!"

Tavia laughed,"Oh, well, nevermind then..."

"Why do you ask?"

Looking down on the floor, Tavia cleared her throat, "Well, I was thinking before about what you said yesterday and I have an answer. I was just wondering if you were doing anything cause I was thinking of catching a movie or something."

She looked at Bosco who had a smirk on his face. Nodding his head, he rubbed his chin as if thinking, "I see how it is. Well I'm busy so sorry!"

Opening the door of the car , he got in. Tavia stood there, staring through the window.

Pulling down the window, Bosco laughed and stuck his head out of it, "I'm just kidding! Get into the car!"

Giving a smile and a sigh of relief, Tavia walked around and got into the car on the other side.

"So, where are we going?" asked Tavia as she buckled her seatbelt.

"You're going to meet my parents." replied Bosco as he pulled out of the parking spot.

"WHAT!?" screamed Tavia.

It was too late, the car was already driving and she couldn't get out.

**AT PARADISE BAR**
Raymond and Jack sat at a corner of the dimly lit bar.

"You know, this just gets more and more confusing each time. So, you're going out with Shirley to make Tavia jealous because she's going out with Bosco?"

Taking a sip of his beer, Raymond nodded.

"So, you're with a girl that you don't like just to make Tavia jealous?" asked Jack.

Setting down his beer, Raymond looked at his friend, "Well I can't say that I don't actually like her. I mean, it's fun to be with her and I don't feel comfortable. That says something right? Don't people feel uncomfortable when they like somebody and they're nervous?"

"Nervous and uncomfortable are two different things Ray. So, what? You're just going to play this out for how long? Till Tavia and Bosco break up?"

Shrugging, Ray popped a peanut into his mouth, "Who knows? Maybe I'll actually end up being with Shirley after they break up."

Shaking his head, Jack was glad he was married and chugged his beer down.

**AT MICHELLE AND TAVIA'S APARTMENT- 6:45 PM**
Sitting on her bed, Michelle clicked her suitcase shut. She looked at her watch which said 6:45. Wondering what there is to lose, she decided to go meet Shirley at the dock...

**IN FRONT OF THE WONG'S MANSION**
Standing in front of the double doors, Tavia just stared.

"You. Live. Here?"

"Yeah, remember I told you that my mother owned the fashion line? Well don't you ever read magazines about designer Priscilla Wong?"

Tavia then stared at Bosco, "You're joking! She's your mom!!?"

The door opened, in the doorway stood a middle aged short lady.

"Sum Jie!"

"Sew Yeh(Master/ Young rich male)." replied the servant.

"Come on." Bosco took Tavia by the arm and led her into the mansion.

"Noo! I can't go in dressed like this!" she hissed.

Sum Jie closed the large doors behind them. Tavia looked around, they were in a large entrance which was surrounded by mirrors. A large chandalier hung in the middle of the room and on the left was a large staircase which curved. Observing the marble tiles under her feet, a voice brought her attention to the left.

"Bosco!"

"Mom!" Bosco walked over to a woman in her fifties wearing a dress piled with pearl jewlery. Although she was quite young looking for her age, the stress showed with the bags under her eyes.

Priscilla Wong stepped onto the marble tile of the entrance and realized Tavia's presence. She stretched her hand out towards her, "Hello, and you are??"

"Mom, you don't have to ask her such embaressing questions!"

Taking Mrs. Wong's hand, Tavia shook it, "Hi, 'baht mo'(another way to say auntie like 'ah yee' but usually used for parents of people you are closer to) I'm Tavia Yeung. I work with Bosco at the theater."

Nodding her head, Mrs. Wong glanced Tavia over, "Ah, I see. Well, do come in, we're having dinner soon." she walked towards one of the doorways of the large foyer. "Sum jie! Tell the cook that we need one more seat!"

"Yes Mrs. Wong." obliged the servant.

**AT THE DOCK**
Shirley stood leaning against the railing looking out at the lighted buildings across the river.
"I knew you would come." she said with a smile.

Michelle walked up and stood next to her, "Whatever you have to say, say it fast. I have to leave tomorrow to New York."

"This is how it goes. I have recieved information that a stock for a company called M&G have been rising two points a day. If you buy a couple hundred shares, you would have earned double the amount by the end of the month."

"Why are you telling me this?"

"After you have earned the money, you will give me 20% of your earnings, that's all I ask. Besides that, you will bribe this man into giving me a job in show business in two and a half months."

Shirley handed a photo to Michelle.
Taking it, she recognized the man, "Isn't this the agent who specializes in recruiting actors and actresses to do series and movies ?"

Turning towards Michelle, Shirley grinned, "Very intelligent, yes it is. He will be most likely recruiting Tavia Yeung after watching her play at the theater two and a half months from now. That night, I want you to give him the money during the performance. From today on, we will keep in contact."

Michelle saw a woman not far away arguing with a guy.

"Then why did you invite me to watch a movie with you when you weren't interested in me!?" she screamed.

"I'm sorry! But I thought Isabella was coming too!" the man replied.

"If you were interested in my friend then you shouldn't have lead me on!" the woman screamed and ran off sobbing.

"Know a good telemarketer where I can buy stocks from?" Michelle asked Shirley.

She handed her an envelope, "Already had it prepared for you."

As she opened the manilla envelope, Shirley grinned, *Good thing I paid those two people to put on a show or else she might not have agreed...*
==================================================================================
I have to cut this chapter a little bit short(it's long enough already! just shorter than what's it supposed to be). It's kinda late now and I spent more time on this than I expected. So the next chapter's gonna be short cause it'll just be the rest of this chapter supposedly.Anyways, supposed to be studying but I'm just like ehhh whatever lol. I started half a chapter of "Through the Hands of Fate" but it seemed boring so I stopped writing it for now. Yeah, anyways that's all...
