"It's not funny! How would you like it if you fell down the stairs?" Tavia said walking past him into the car.
Ray started the car and drove away from the theater.
"So...why did you ask me out today?" questioned Tavia, a bit nervous.
*It has to be a date! I mean, you don't ask somebody 'what are you doing tomorrow?' unless it is right?* She began to smile.
Raymond was reminded of what Ron told him yesterday. However, he shoved the thought out of his mind. He didn't want to ask her..yet.
"Um..I was just worried that that guy would stalk you again so I decided it was best to pick you up. Also, my boss gave me half of the day off so I thought we might as well I have dinner too." he lied.
*WHY am I lying? I'm supposed to find out if she likes Ron! But what am I supposed to say? I asked you out today because Ron wanted to know if you like him?!*
"I see." Tavia replied and looked out the window grinning.
Suddenly, Ray's cell phone rang.
"Hello?"
"Hi, Raymond! Are you coming home for dinner tonight?"
"No, I can't mom. I'm going to have dinner with a friend."
Tavia listened to his conversation. *Did he just say 'a friend?' So maybe I'm just making a big deal out of this..*
"What friend? You're finally going out with somebody aren't you! She's Chinese right? Is she pretty? How did you meet her!!?" babbled Mrs. Lam.
"No, Mom, it's Tavia."
"Oh ok. Well where's Ron and Michelle? How come it's only the two of you?" she asked a little disappointed that her son wasn't going on a date.
"Mom, it's Hong Kong. If I was gonna date a girl, wouldn't she be chinese? And I don't know Ron and Michelle are." Ray tried to avoid the fact that Ron asked him to meet with Tavia. He didn't want his mom finding out only to tell Mr. and Mrs. Ng..who'll tell Mr. and Mrs. Yeung. Then them telling Tavia.
"Alright. Well I made this huge dinner because we were supposed to have guests. But they had a family problem and couldn't come. Why don't you and Tavia come?"
"Alright then, I'll be there in ten minutes."
"Ok, see you then."
They both hung up their phones.
Mrs. Lam couldn't wonder but why it was only Tavia and her son that was going to dinner together. Perhaps Raymond liked her? Well, Tavia was a nice girl. She was nice, pretty, and smart.
"Who was that?" asked Tavia even though she knew perfectly that it was his mom.
"It was my mom. She was supposed to have guests over but they didn't come. So, she has a huge dinner and can't finish it so she wants us to go."
"Ok sure."
**TEN MINUTES LATER THEY ARRIVED AT THE LAM'S HOUSE**
"Hi Tavia! I haven't seen you in such a long time! Why you just keep on looking prettier and prettier!" exclaimed Mrs. Lam opening the door.
"Thank you Mrs. Lam. Well, I don't look that pretty compared to you." Tavia replied.
"Oh stop joking around!" laughed Mrs. Lam.
Raymond led Tavia to the living room to watch tv. Mrs.Lam couldn't help but wonder if what she thought was true. She entered the kitchen to cook the rest of the food.
"I think we're going to be able to have wonderful grandchildren to take care of soon!" she said bubbling to Mr. Lam.
"What are you babbling about now? Our son doesn't even have a girlfriend!" replied Mr. Lam.
"No! But he would soon! I think he likes Tavia."
Mr. Lam didn't reply and just assumed his wife just making crazy assumptions again.
**AFTER DINNER**
"That tasted really good. It's even better than the restaurants! Maybe you should open one, I'm sure you'll become rich from it!" Tavia said complimenting Mrs. Lam on her cooking.
"Oh, you just know how to say the right things!" exclaimed Mrs. Lam smiling.
"Now, Raymond are you going to drive Tavia home? It's dangerous for a girl to go home alone so late." asked Mr.Lam.
"Yeah, sure. Come on let's go" said Raymond getting up and heading to the door with Tavia.
"Be sure to drive her all the way back to her apartment. Then walk her upstairs too! It's dangerous at this time of night. Tavia, you're welcome to come again anytime." rambled on Mrs. Lam.
"With your great cooking, I'll be sure you to come again." replied Tavia politely.
With that, they left and Mrs. Lam closed the door after them.
"SEE! What did I tell you? Our son's going to have a girlfriend soon! Although a little late but better late than never. Hm...where do you think that the wedding and banquet should be held? Here in Hong Kong or abroad?" Mrs. Lam went on and on.
Mr.Lam sighed and ignored her again.
Tavia sneezed as the wind blew outside.
"Here." Ray said, putting his jacket on Tavia.
"Thanks. So, that was pretty fun..it was kinda like meet the parents except we're not going out"Tavia said and laughed nervously.
"Yeah sorry about that. My mom just assumes things alot."
"It's ok."
There was this long awkward pause between the two of them.
"WATCH IT, MOVE ASIDE!" a voice yelled behind them.
Raymond pulled Tavia aside just as a guy on a bicycle sped past them.
"Why don't you watch where YOU'RE going instead?" yelled Raymond at the bicyclist.
"Are you alright?" he asked Tavia who he was still holding onto after pulling her away.
She nodded as a reply as Raymond stared back at her. She found herself slowly moving her head towards his..and so did Raymond. But suddenly he stopped and let go of holding her.
"Um, it's late I should take you home." he said and started walking towards the car, leaving Tavia where she was standing.
**OUTSIDE TAVIA'S APARTMENT**
"Bye."
*Was that all he had to say? He's not even going to discuss what happened before?! Maybe it's not the first time it has happened since he always has tons of girls swarmming towards him! He must think I'm just another one of those ditzy girls that fall for him because of his car!* Tavia thought.
"Bye." Tavia said angrily and got out of the car, slamming the door behind her.
Raymond sighed as he watched Tavia walked off. *It's not that I don't like you..but so does Ron..*
**INSIDE TAVIA'S APARTMENT**
"Where did you go? Coming home so late!" said Michelle teasing Tavia.
Tavia turned to see Michelle and Ron in the dinning room as she headed to her room.
"Nowhere. Ron, why are you here so late?"
"Uh, I was working on a report with Michelle." Ron said, partly lying because he was waiting for Tavia. Ron and Michelle both worked in the same business company.
"Oh, alright. Well I'm tired, I'm going to go to sleep now." Tavia said as she continued walking towards her room.
"Wait! Can I talk to you..outside?" Ron asked.
"Can't we talk about it here instead?" asked Tavia.
"No..." Ron said looking at Michelle.
**OUTSIDE TAVIA'S APARTMENT**
Ron and Tavia sat on a bench. Ron suddenly noticed that Tavia was wearing Raymond's jacket..
*So he DID meet with her! So he must have asked her then!* Ron thought excited.
"So, what is so secretive that you have to talk with me about it outside?" Tavia began.
"Well, I know that you and Raymond went out today and he must have told you..."
Tavia noticed Ron was looking at her and she realized she was still wearing Raymond's jacket. She took it off and handed it to Ron.
"Here, you can give it back to him when you go home. And what are you talking about? Told me what?" Tavia asked, confused.
"He must have told you that I like you." Ron replied.
