Chapter 2

|| You Never Noticed Him ||

-Yoochun-

I’m a guy who can make friends quick; a guy who can make small talk into a whole conversation. As I walked into my new classroom with my guys beside me, I knew that this year would be no different in becoming friendly with everyone. As Junsu and I looked around the classroom for a place to sit, we saw two empty desks at the side with two lovely ladies already sitting there. We agreed that it was time to make ourselves known to them, so we headed their way. I have seen them around before, but I don’t really know who they are. Actually, considering how we just introduced ourselves, it seems like they don’t know who we are either.

“That’s true but its fine since I get to share a book with you,” is what I said to Saeri as she shared her book with me. When she looked away from me and just stared at her book, I grinned. My first impression of her was cute and nice. She seemed simplistic and easy-going, sort of like me. Whenever I saw her last year though, she was always staring off into space and stuff. I never once looked her straight in the eye.

Suddenly, the bell rang and the first class had ended. Saeri took away her book slowly and put it away in her bag. She took out the next textbook for the following class and waited patiently for the teacher to arrive. I saw her friend Rin nudge her and whisper in her ear. After a moment, her eyes widened and she shook her head furiously. They went back and forth like that for about a minute before Saeri put her head on her desk and smiled. What an odd girl, I thought.

“Yoochun, the guys are calling us over there,” Junsu said patting my shoulder and pointing to the rest of our group. They were waving us over so we quickly went.

“I can’t believe school is already starting. Vacation is too short,” Jaejoong –who was protective of us all and had features that made him look a bit more feminine, but yet had muscles that beat us all- said groaning and stretching his arms.

“Well, what do you expect? We spent most of our vacation goofing off; of course it went by fast. But it seems like someone is already ready for school,” Yunho –our leader of some sort and had one of the kindest hearts- replied to Jaejoong as he pointed at Changmin who was already looking through the next few textbooks. Jaejoong rolled his eyes and hit Changmin slightly on the shoulder.

“If you keep studying like that, you will go cross-eyed one day,” Jaejoong teased while Changmin tried swatting him off. I looked at Junsu who was now pre-occupied with his soccer ball in the corner of the room. This was our group really. We always spent our time together and became like brothers.

I put my hand on Jaejoong’s shoulder and then chuckled. “Let him study, for all you know, he might do some great things with that education of his, unlike you who doesn’t lay a finger on your books.” Yunho and I laughed as Jaejoong pushed me towards the direction of my seat. Just in time for the next teacher to come in as well. He came in with a stack of old magazines and dropped them on the teacher’s desk with a bang. He wiped the sweat from his brow and then wrote his name on the board: Mr. Yoon.

“Hello class, it’s the beginning of the new school year,” Mr. Yoon started. I held my head by resting it on my hand and mentally groaned. This guy is probably going to give a whole speech too now. “I know that most of you know each other, but some of you don’t. In my classes, we will be doing lots of partner and teamwork so I want everyone to be comfortable. We are going to do a little activity, to help us with that. We’re going to take it easy today but tomorrow, get ready to work your butts off.” The class laughed a bit and the teacher smiled.

“Okay this is how it’s going to work. I’m going to give a number to each of you and as each person gets their number they will go into different groups. No cheating just because you want to be in the same group as a friend; that totally defeats the purpose of this exercise. You’re going to construct a poster of what you think this year will be filled of. Any hopes, dreams, expectations. You can use markers, magazines I have brought in, anything that will bring excitement to your poster. Don’t use anything foul or discriminative because you will be kicked out. Last but not least, have fun with it,” he concluded.

Mr. Yoon started to number us off randomly and the class was starting to divide off. I had no clue what this guy was thinking, but if it meant another class of relaxing, it was fine with me. “Five,” he pointed at me and then carried on. I put my hands in my pockets and looked around the room to see a person yelling out where my group was. I walked over and tried to see who was in my group.

-Saeri-

I instantly grabbed a friend of mine’s arm and looked at her happily. She looked at me oddly and raised her eyebrow. “He’s in this group!” I exclaimed and then started to swing her arm slightly.

“Who is?” she asked and looked around our group.

I grabbed hold of her chin and pointed it into the direction of Yoochun. He was high-fiving with some guys I suppose he knows and smiling. I looked at her face to read her expression and I saw her jaw-drop. I let go of her chin and smirked. “I know he’s really something huh? I can’t believe he just moved here!”

She closed her jaw and then faced me with wide-eyes. “Do you know who he is?” she said looking at me like I was crazy.

“Of course I do. He’s Park Yoochun,” I answered with a smile on my face. Saying his name made my heart beat a little.

She rolled her eyes at me and slapped my arm slightly. I winced and frowned at her. “Okay and you said he just moved here?” she questioned. I nodded and rubbed the slapped area of my arm. She rolled her eyes again and slapped my other arm lightly. I grabbed that arm with my other hand and rubbed it.

“You shouldn’t slap people. You’re slaps are hard and you’re nails are long,” I complained.

For the third time, she rolled her eyes. “Park Yoochun didn’t just move here! He was here last year too and I have known him since elementary school!” I looked at her dumbfounded and tried to find something to say but no words would come out.

“He is a kingka, okay? He and his friends have been at the top as long as I could remember. I know all of them and they are way beyond our reaches,” she explained. I was about to speak when she cut me off.

“Oh and you don’t know about them because if memory serves me correct, when we were looking at the possible guys in this school, you looked at our class and found nothing. You looked class B, there was nothing. You looked in class C there was absolutely nothing. Then just as you were about to look in class D, you didn’t even bother because you thought it would be pointless. Well smart one, that’s where all the kingka’s were. Plus, you never had a class with them ever and whenever we have school wide things, you are always looking at the ground. I can’t believe you never noticed them before!”

My jaw dropped and I kicked the wall. “You never thought of mentioning them to me before?” I cried looking at the wall.

“Well, I thought you knew about them; everyone knows about them. Also...,” she started saying and suddenly trailed off. I tilted my head at the silence and then turned around slowly. My friend wasn’t looking at me anymore, but at my other group members who were already getting started on the poster. Why didn’t she finish her sentence, I thought. I bit my lip and was about to join the group when I felt a pair of hands on my shoulders. I stiffened and exhaled. No one was behind me earlier. Suddenly, my fear of ghosts and such overwhelmed me and I didn’t want to turn my head. I looked around to see if anyone else was watching me or seeing something odd, but no one was looking in my direction. All of a sudden, I felt a slow breath of air on the back of my neck which made the hair on my arms stand up. I screamed and then turned around. When I turned though, I did not see a ghost or anything of the likes; just a hot guy laughing his head off.

Yoochun was holding his stomach as his laughter was bursting out of him. I puffed my cheeks and tried to look away from him. Although he just scared the life out of me, his laugh was really cute and that over-powered my fright. My face turned red and I sat in a near-by desk. I looked around seeing no one paid attention to my scream either; was the project really that intriguing?

Yoochun bent down to my level and ruffled my hair. “It was all in good fun Saeri-sshi, don’t get mad okay?” he said putting on a pout. I turned my head far away as possible and scratched the tip of my nose. Don’t give me a pout, I kept repeating in my head.

He tapped my knee and held his hand out for me. “We have to contribute to the group too. Come on, let’s go.” I got up on my own and tried not to see eye-to-eye with him.

“Don’t worry, I’m not going to scare you again,” he laughed. I looked up at him satisfied and nodded. “But, I’ve never seen someone freak out so much because of a little wind on the back of their neck.” I puffed my cheeks and hurried towards the group faster. He walked faster as well and we both peered at what the group has done so far.

He put one hand on my shoulder again and grinned at the hard work our group has put in without us so far. I looked at his hand and blushed. It felt so right being there.
