Chapter 9

|| Make Her Smile ||

- Yoochun -

When you hear amnesia there are one of either two things that come to mind. One: that person doesn’t remember something. Two: what the heck is amnesia? But that’s beside the point. Amnesia can be something good or bad. In Saeri’s case it’s bad, but for Jin, it is definitely a good.

As Jin crossed his arms in front of me and waited for me to say something, I felt a grin forming on my lips. I raised my hand in the air happily and changed my grin to a full-on smile. Jin looked at me as if I was crazy. I nodded once and then pointed at my hand in the air. “If someone does this, they are usually expecting a high-five. Now come on, don’t leave me hangin’ here,” I said eyeing my hand and then him. I did not receive a high-five though.

Jin stared at me blankly, making me lower my hand to my side. Silence came between us and the sound of people being paged tried to fill it. I looked around and started to whistle. If only he high-fived me back, I could have said what I needed to say. But, now the timing wasn’t right and I would just sound plain weird. I guess this was the disadvantage of being a romantic, planning person; right timing was everything to me.

The stiffness ended when Jin put a hand on the door handle and was about to twist it.

“Wait,” I said quickly. My hand was lifted a bit and Jin eyed me again.

I put my hands back by my sides and looked at him seriously; now was the right time. “I still haven’t said what I needed to say.” Jin let go of the handle and leaned against the wall looking bored. He cocked his eyebrow, which gave me the initiative to start.

“Saeri’s amnesia is a good thing,” I started. A flash of anger went through and before he could react I held my hands out in front of me. “Just hear me out,” I said and then paused seeing that he was trying to relax, “okay, think about it, Saeri has nothing right now. She doesn’t have any idea of what has happened in her life, including things that happened within the last two weeks. You know what that means?”

His expression stayed blank and I shook my head at him. “You are so uncooperative. At least try and pretend that you’re actually listening to me,” I complained.

He pointed at his face. “This is my listening face.”

“No it’s not. The expression when you’re listening to Saeri is way different,” I pointed out.

“Well, are you a girl that I like?” he asked. Before I could answer he spoke again, “No you are a guy and I don’t give particular faces to guys. Continue on.”

Sighing and feeling defeated by Jin’s lack of wanting to be friends I continued. “Okay well my point is that Saeri doesn’t feel anything at all for me. She doesn’t remember having feelings for me or anything. This could be your chance to make her yours! Take this opportunity. And if she regains her memories, she will have already fallen for you. It’s a fool proof plan!” I exclaimed proudly.

Jin leaned off the wall and narrowed his eyes at me. “You are truly a babo.” My jaw dropped and I had trouble finding words.

“Wh-wh-what?” I stuttered. He took a step closer to me and looked me straight in the eye with a bit of rage showing in his eyes. It was a good thing we were the same height because if he was taller, this could turn into a scary situation. I tried to keep my gaze steady as I felt anger emitting from him.

“You think that I can make Saeri fall for me?” he asked mockingly. I nodded once.

“You think that after all the feelings she had for you, she will suddenly turn them towards me?” he asked again. I nodded once foolishly.

His narrow eyes turned into a glare. “Even though Saeri has lost everything in just one day, feelings are never lost. They will always be there in her heart despite everything. They are buried deep down and can come up at any moment. Feelings like that don’t just go away with a temporary problem. Get this through your thick skull Yoochun: she loves you. Nothing can change that.”

I lowered my eyes and shook my head. He could take advantage of this, he really could; Jin was being a fool. His firm tone started again so I lifted my head up. “The reason why I think what you just said is so ridiculous is because, you’re not thinking anything through. I’m saying a definite no to that. I just want Saeri to be happy and I know that I’m not enough for that job. I’m going to hand her over to you,” he said through his teeth. I almost laughed at this. A smile was about to appear on my face when I saw he was serious.

“Are you kidding me? I don’t even get what you’re talking about,” I jokingly said.

He pinched his nose bridge and sighed deeply before looking at me again. “To make it simple, I’m not going to do what you asked me to. I’m leaving it to you to take care of her. I’ll be around, but I’m making you responsible for her. I don’t want anyone else to do this job. You better stay by her side all the way Park Yoochun, or so help me, I will murder you.”

I shook my head at him. “I’m not the right person to do this,” I said clearly.

“But you are. Like I said before, she cared for you the most and the last person she thought about was you. No matter how strong my feelings are, I know that she should belong with you. I want her to regain the feelings for you no matter what. I know it may sound crazy, but inside, I know that her emotions are just screaming out for you. When she gets everything back, I want her to be happy that she got to spend so much time with you. I don’t want her remembering everything and going back to a dull life of just daydreaming to spend a day with you,” he paused, “just make her happy Yoochun. That’s all I’m asking from you. Make my girl smile.” With that, he entered Saeri’s room not looking back at me.

I leaned against the wall and ran my fingers through my black, short hair. How was this supposed to work? I may think of Saeri as a friend, but I can’t take care of her like how Jin wants me to. That’s way more than I should ever have to do. I mean, she has parents doesn’t she? Why can’t they take care of her? I groaned and looked at the door through the corner of my eye. There was no way that this is ever going to happen.

- Saeri -

When Jin entered my room, his smile was big, but his eyes were covered with sadness. I frowned at him and patted on a space beside me on the bed. He carefully sat down and kept a deep stare on me. I felt myself blush at it and tried to stare back. “Is everything alright?” I asked trying to keep my gaze steady.

He stopped staring at me and nodded. “You’re lying to me. What’s wrong?” I questioned becoming more concerned. I shifted and took hold of one of his hands. He gripped my hand back and grinned at it.

“This is what’s wrong,” he murmured. I mouthed a ‘what’ and stared at my hand entwined with his. “I’m not the one you should be holding,” he said and then smiled at me.

I shook my head and looked at him. “I have no clue what you’re talking about,” I said feeling absolutely dumb. Just as he was about to say something, Mr. Handsome-but-weird walked through the door and closed it behind him. Both of us looked at him as he walked over to the foot of my bed and grabbed a chair to sit on. As he sat, he looked deep in thought.

“Are you okay Yoochun?” I eyed him suspiciously and he shook his head. What is wrong with guys and not wanting to say if they are alright or not? “No one ever says anything,” I muttered under my breath.

It got silent in the room and then Jin stood up. His hand was still in mine and he kept a good hold on it. “I think I better go now. I missed out on school today and better tell my parents why.” He looked down at me and grinned. Just as I was about to smile back, he bent down and kissed my forehead lovingly. I felt warmth from it, which I was glad for. He patted my entwined hand and let go. My hand dropped lifelessly onto the bed as I watched him pick up his bag, a notebook and stop at the door.

Jin turned his head slightly and looked directly at Yoochun. “I will know Yoochun,” he said coldly before leaving the room.

I looked at Yoochun curiously. I may not know him so well yet, but by the look in his eyes, he seemed to be frustrated. Not knowing anything about the situation, I didn’t know if I should say something. After a while I sighed and thought of something. “Yoochun-sshi,” I said catching his attention, “just smile.” His face lit up and a bright smile appeared on his face making him look ten times more handsome than just mere moment before.

Just as he was about to say something, we heard the door open and saw my doctor coming towards me clutching onto her clipboard. “Good news Saeri-sshi, you can get out of here in a couple of days. Also- ” she stopped and spotted Yoochun. She looked at him and then me, then smirked.

“Well well, Saeri, I don’t know how you attract such fine young men. First that bad boy looking character earlier and now this pretty boy guy. How do you do it?” She faced me and winked. “You must show me later okay?”

I cringed but nodded politely. I snuck a peek at Yoochun and saw him smirking. “I’m sure a lady like yourself has men lining up for miles and miles,” he said making my doctor blush.

She turned to me and patted my shoulder. “I think this guy is a keeper Saeri.” I rolled my eyes and looked at Yoochun who was all smiles because of the compliment. She may think that this guy is awesome, but he’s making odd first impressions. First a weirdo and now a flirt? Some speculating must be done.
