Joe would never believe Ariel if she told him, and his mother would not take any action against her in front of Joe. She had to catch his mother on her own. His mother? No! Lucy...Lucy Tian. She had to catch Lucy Tian on her own. She had to know her plan, and she had to convince Joe of it.
Surely, once all the evidence was with them, Joe would see the truth. He was blinded by his ‘mother’ and now due to her, innocent people were dead. First Gillian, and now Vikram.
If Ariel wasn’t there, she wouldn’t have believed it. Vikram was dead. He showed Joe the truth, and tried to convince him for the past two days. He was as horrified as Ariel when Joe enclosed their location to Lucy Tian. He pleaded them to run away, to go somewhere else, but Joe wouldn’t listen. All Vikram’s attempts were in vain.
Innocent people were dying. Does Lucy Tian have no conscious? How could she seem like an ordinary, caring mother one minute, and kill two people in the next?
Maybe she didn’t kill Vikram, maybe one of her two henchmen did, but how could she let it stay on her conscious. What did she want? Why was she after so many lives? Why was she after Ariel? Why did she want to ruin so many lives?
She turned a corner and saw one of Lucy Tian’s henchmen appearing. She quickly hid herself behind the bend and waited patiently for the henchman to go in the opposite direction. Once the coast was clear she ran towards the forest surrounding the one way roads.
Trees covered the beauty of the forest from the roads. It was a deserted area, and Lucy was sure not to find her, and if she did, that was another matter.
Ariel ran towards the trees and kept running until she came across a cliff. There was no other way out, it was a dead end. She looked down the cliff to see if she could climb her way down, but it was very deep, and there was no tracking marks on the cliff. It wasn’t fit to climb. Ariel turned around and stilled in horror. Her heart leapt into her stomach that moment.
“So, we finally meet, again.” She said casually, trying to ignore the fear spreading through her veins.
“Don’t play games silly girl!” Lucy Tian grumbled and raised the gun pointing it to Ariel.
“I’m not playing games. This is a dead end, I’m not going anywhere.” Ariel replied. The courage only showed in her words, she could feel fear prickle through her at the sight of the gun.
“That’s right, now I can finish you off easily.”
“If I’m going to die, I want some questions answered.”
“I don’t have time for this, you silly girl!” Lucy Tian mumbled pulling at the trigger.
“Wait!” Ariel raised her voice, enough to shock Lucy out of pulling the trigger further. ”You owe me answers.”
“I owe you nothing! How dare you...”
“Please...I have to know this. If you’re going to kill me, at least tell me why.” Ariel pleaded.
“Isn’t it obvious?” Lucy Tian asked lowering the gun to Ariel’s relief. She hoped Joe would come soon with the police. How he would find her, she had no clue. Neither did she have any clue as to how Lucy Tian found her. Had she been following her?
“You want to own Cheng Corporation?” Ariel asked taking a wild guess. She wasn’t sure that was it. Lucy Tian married into the Cheng corporation. Everything Baron Cheng owned, would be hers. Then why did she have to kill people for it?
“Now that you know the answer, prepare to die.” She replied as she raised the gun one more time.
“But...it’s yours for the taking. It’s your husband’s company! Your son is running it, what more could you want?”
“Silly girl! You’re making me impatient with your stupidity. My husband owns the company. My son, someday will own it too, but me? It’s never going to come in my hands! I’ll just be witness to it being passed from generation to generation. Never once will the name under the contract say Lucy Tian!”
Ariel was shocked at what she was hearing, but more so by the fact that she finally admitted the truth. Although in anger, haste or impatience, but she admitted she was in fact Lucy Tian, and not Lucy Yan.
“So you are Lucy Tian? You aren’t Joe’s mother?” She knew the answers to the questions, but she still had to ask them. She wanted to get everything cleared.
“Of course I’m not! And yes, I am Lucy Tian.” She smiled at the mention of her name. “It feels good to have my name said from someone else’s lips other than my own. But alas, the person who gave me such a relief, has to die.” She raised the gun one more time.
“What did you do with Lucy Yan? Did you kill her?”
“That’s none of your business.” Lucy sighed. “But I will tell you, as all these years, I’ve been the only one enjoying my intelligence. Now finally, when the time comes to share, I wouldn’t back out.” Lucy said stuffing the gun back into her jacket pocket. “Take notes girl, you may need them in the next life.”
Ariel stood quietly waiting for Lucy to tell her every detail. She grazed a hand over the bulge in her jean pocket. The recorder on her phone was turned on. She needed proof, and so far, she had all the proof she could gather. This now, was an essential point in their conversation. It was proof that Lucy Tian wasn’t Joe’s mother.
“Well? I’m waiting...”
“Lucy Yan, was foolish. She believed everything I said. I took advantage of that.” She said coming closer to Ariel. Ariel took two steps back instinctively and found herself standing at the edge of the cliff. “What? Scared?” Lucy asked giving a laugh.
“Continue.”
“Don’t boss me around!” Lucy warned, but continued her story anyway. “Lucy Yan thought I was her friend, so when she got pregnant, and Baron was away in business she called me. She was weak so the doctor recommended some tablets...” Lucy trailed off when Ariel gave a gasp of horror.
“You poisoned her?” Ariel asked, not believing anyone could be so cruel.
“You’re smart...well yes, it was slow poison. She was so weak when she gave birth to Joe that she died out of all the energy required to deliver a child, or something like that...I thought the poison would affect Joe too, make him incapacitated...but that wretched boy!” She showed anger for the first time using Joe’s name. “He was perfect. In looks, in intelligence, in everything!”
“You...you horrible, horrible woman! Why would you kill your own friend for money?!”
“Friend? That bitch is not my friend! She’s the girl who stole my father from me. That’s right,” Lucy smirked when Ariel looked confused. “Arron Yan is my father. He and my mother Hebe Tian were going to get married, but his jealous wife...she gave birth to Lucy Yan and ruined everything! She grabbed my father from my mother.”
“But...they were married...they’re supposed to be together, your mother was an affair...”
“My mother was not an affair! Arron loved her, and my mother loved him! If it weren’t for Lucy and Gui Gui, I would have had the family I deserved. I would have married Baron Cheng, I would have been inheriting the Yan fortune. But no...I didn’t get them, so I took what I deserved! I didn’t care for the means.”
“Why didn’t you just go and admit to Arron that you’re his daughter? You could have spared so many lives.”
“Are you crazy? That Gui Gui, she made my father believe I’m not his daughter, when I was born. He wouldn’t believe me.” For a moment Ariel saw a flash of sorrow covering Lucy’s face. “So I took his daughters position. I took what was mine!” She smirked. The malicious woman was back.
“Were you the one that had Gillian and Vikram killed?” She asked for further proof.
“Gillian and Vikram? Heck I had Selina killed too! Joe’s fiancé. I wasn’t going to let some wide-eyed idiot take over my fortune. Same goes for you.” She said raising the gun once more.
Ariel didn’t know what would come next. She had nowhere to run. Behind her was a cliff, and the end. And before her was her doom. She didn’t know which way to go.
Suddenly she heard it. The siren of the police. She smiled in relief and looked over at Lucy. She smirked at her, as she saw Lucy’s expression change from anger to horror.
“There...now what will you do? You’re end is here Lucy Tian.”
“No...this can’t be it...this...” Lucy mumbled softly. Ariel had to lean forward to hear what Lucy was saying. She smiled when she heard her words.
“This is the end Lucy Tian. You’ve come a long way. You can’t kill anyone now. Your game’s up.”
Lucy turned around and watched horrified as the police van was coming closer. Then she turned around and gave a shriek so horrible, Ariel put her hands to her ears.
“He’s getting Ariel! Help! You wretched man...leave her alone. Take me instead...please don’t take my son’s love away.”
Ariel looked around surprised. What was she up to? “Who are you talking to?” She asked. Maybe Lucy had gone crazy?
“Don’t worry Ariel, the game’s not over yet.” She said and raised the gun and turned it to her arm. She pulled the trigger and a moment later there was a loud bang of the bullet leaving the gun, and then she gave another yell and raised the gun to Ariel.
“Bye bye.” She said. She pulled the trigger and Ariel could once more hear the loud bang of the gun. A moment later she could feel the bullet merging with her body, and hitting her chest right at the middle.
Ariel fell back into the cliff, and as she did she heard Lucy give another yell, and watched her throw the gun away. The last thing on her mind was what Lucy would do to Joe now. Then the pain was too much to think, and she closed her eyes and fell, banging her head hard on the ground. She took her last breath on the earth, and felt her soul leave her body.
