“Yes, I do. He has married.” The man replied.
“No! He couldn’t have. He would have told me if he had.”
“I have information to believe, that it was as sudden for him, as it is for you now.”
“Who’s the girl?”
“Her name is Ariel Lin madam.”
“What’s her breeding?”
“She is a commoner madam, she doesn’t have breeding.”
“What! How could he marry someone like that? Do you know anything else about the girl?”
“No madam, I am still trying to find as much information I can. But there is one thing…”
“Yes?”
“I have heard, she threatened Joe into marrying her.”
“Threatened?”
“The rumor is, that Joe walked into her wedding and stopped it, by an accident, and she forced him to marry her, when the groom left.”
“Hmmm. That little minx blackmailed him did she? She seems like one of us. Maybe, we should get her on our side.” The woman smirked. Hearing this news relaxed her. “I see, maybe, our plan of fourteen years has not come to an end.”
“But what if she refused to side with us? What shall we do then madam?”
“Well it’s but obvious isn’t it? We kill her.” The woman replied calmly and gave a loud shrill laugh. The man speaking to her shivered a little. He had been with this woman, as her helper, for fourteen years. Yet it still made him shiver how she could casually talk about murder, as though she were asking for a second helping of pumpkin pie.
“Yes madam. I understand.”
“Well then, get me more information on her. Find out exactly what her intentions are with Joe, and tell me a.s.a.p.”
“Yes madam.

“Joe! I heard you’re married. Married to someone and didn’t even bother to tell us.” Joe’s mother scolded as he opened the door.
“Mother…”
“Yes Joe, we need explanations!” His father spoke as he and his mother went into the house.
“Father…”
“Your mother and I are very disappointed in you. It’s been how many days since you’ve been married? You didn’t even call us to your wedding!”
“I just got married yesterday. I did call, I put in a word through the maid.”
“Well…” His father opened his mouth to reply, but couldn’t think of anything.
“That isn’t important. The important thing is that our son got married, and didn’t even invite us!” His mother sighed.
“It was a sudden marriage. I couldn’t invite you, even I didn’t know I was getting married.” Joe tried to reason.
“Where is she? Come on, out with her. I want to see my daughter-in-law.” Joe’s father smiled up at him.
“She…she’s having a bath, she will be right out.”
“Well, that’s good. By then you could tell us, how exactly did all this happen? How did you come to marry her? I thought you had sworn off women after…” His voice trailed off. Joe’s father was very uncomfortable talking about Selina. Her death had made Joe into a mess.
“Well.” Joe said thinking of a suitable story to tell. He couldn’t just tell them that his marriage to Ariel was a mistake. That she forced him into marrying her. He had to make up a story.
“Yes? What’s the story?” Joe’s father asked anxiously.
“Tell us everything Joe.” His mother exclaimed.
“Well, we…we met at a restaurant once, and liked each other since then. We started going out, and then we were in a church, to attend a wedding. I knew I loved her, and knew I wanted to be with her. So after the wedding, we asked the priest for some help, and got married officially…
“She doesn’t have a ring yet, we decided to buy it when this whole thing seems real, and the situation kicks in. Ariel still can’t believe that I’m her husband. We…well…we…didn’t want to tell anyone but pour close friends about this. She’s a little shy.”
“Wow. That’s so romantic…so beautiful…” His mother smiled.
“And such a big fat lie!” A voice called from behind them.
It was Ariel. She had her hair loose and wore a pink night gown. (Joe wondered why she wore a night gown in the day, and then realized that maybe, she decided to stay in the whole day and laze around.) Joe was a little scared about what she meant by saying that his story was a lie. She couldn’t possibly reveal the truth to his parents could she?
“Lie?” Joe’s father laughed. “Well, then what’s your theory of the story my dear? By the way…let me introduce myself. I’m Joe’s father Baron Cheng, and she’s his mother, Lucy Cheng.”
“I’m Ariel Lin…oops, sorry. I mean, I’m Ariel Cheng.” Ariel smirked.
“Well Ariel, I was just telling my parents our story. From how me met, to how we married.”
“Yes, a very interesting story it is my dear.” Joe’s father smiled.
“Interesting? Naah! The real story is more interesting. Much more interesting.”
“What do you mean, my dear?” Joe’s mother asked. “Joe isn’t telling the truth?”
“No Lucy.” Ariel smirked.
Joe looked horrified. She wouldn’t tell them the real story would she? He hoped she wouldn’t. Why would she? These were his parents. Surely, surely she would understand why he lied to them. Surely, she would play along with him. She wouldn’t just tell them the truth would she?
“Then what is the truth, pray tell.” Joe’s father asked amused.
“Well the story goes like this… I never loved your son. I never even knew him yesterday. I was getting married, a day ago. Just one day ago, and Joe here, barged into my wedding, and stole me away from it…and do you know why?”
She paused and looked around at them. To her satisfaction, Joe looked horrified, and his parents had a scandalous look on their faces.
“Hmm, no co-operation from the audience. Pity, pity!” Ariel smirked. “Well, he mistook my wedding room with another’s and barged into it, stole me on a white horse, and took me away.”
She paused again and gave a sweet smile to Joe. “Now, then when I went back to my wedding, after he realized his mistake, my groom had taken off, and wouldn’t believe me, and wasn’t willing to marry me either! So this man, who came riding on his white horse, and ruined my wedding. I forced him…that’s right, forced him into marrying me…” She looked around at those faces again. All three had their mouths open, but neither of the three spoke a word. “…I’m done.” She smiled.
“So…this…this isn’t a real marriage?” Joe’s father finally spoke in a whisper. He couldn’t bring himself to talk. What had his son done? Married someone, who was clearly very spiteful!
“Oh no, no, no! It’s as real as real could be.” Ariel laughed merrily. “The only little glitch is, that instead of him being the apple of my eye, he is the thorn that bruises it. And instead of me loving him, I…well, hate is a strong word, but I guess I would say, I hate him!”
“Joe! What have you done! Why did you marry this…this…mad woman!”
“Mad woman?” Ariel laughed at hearing this name for herself. Never in her life had she been called anything even remotely related to abuses, and she was being called a mad woman.
“Come on let’s go!” Joe’s mother stood up and started walking out of the door. She looked at Joe and smiled, and to Ariel’s surprise, she smiled at her too. Ariel could’ve sworn it was a menacing smile. But she couldn’t be too sure. It didn’t make sense. Why would Joe’s mother smile at her that way?
She turned to Joe and smirked at his expression, a feeling of satisfaction taking over her.
