After the party, two days ago, many people had started praising Ariel. Some men even went to the extent of calling Joe lucky, and wishing they had a wife like Ariel. They however had no clue what so ever, about what was really going on. Joe, due to this marriage, had become very confused, and was constantly on the look out for any part of Ariel’s revenge. His new plan was to be as nice to Ariel as possible. Let her feel comfort, luxury and love.
But there was a flaw in his plan, comfort: he could give her, luxury: he could give her. But love? Would she accept love from him? He was after all, the man who ruined her life, the man whom she hates more than anything in this world. So much so, that she would marry him, just for the sake of revenge.
Also, was he ready to give love? He had never shown anyone but his parents his soft side since Selina died. He hid himself and his feelings in a box. He wouldn’t give any woman a second look. Try as he might, but no woman gave him those feelings like Selina did.
But there was something in Ariel. Something that made him want to destroy the feelings of hate in her heart, and instead build feelings of love. He wanted to love her, show her his true self. But how? He was not comfortable yet, to let go Selina’s feelings. Also, how could he chase after someone who just feels pure hate for him?
Joe shook his head vigorously. He wanted to stop thinking about all this and loose himself in his work. Since the past two years, work has been his only comfort. Work, and his parents of course. He would busy himself in his work, and would stop thinking about Selina. This was his routine for the past two years.
And for the past two years, this routine proved to be absolutely what he needed. From just a common copywriter, Joe became the part of the board of directors for miracle soaps. He was put in charge of major proceedings, and got a big fat raise and a house and car to go with it. He was happy with what he had. In fact, he was ecstatic. At least when you busy yourself in your work, you forget about your sorrows, fears, and problems.
Joe walked into his office, and as soon as he did, his secretary came marching inside with a note that read...
‘Meet me in my office-Ethan.’
Joe wondered what this could be about. Then he realized, the only reason anyone’s been taking interest in him for the past two days, was because of Joe’s wedding with Ariel. He sighed deeply and started walking to Ethan’s office.
“Hey Ethan.” Joe waved, as he went into the office and took a seat.
“Joe...you little pig!”
“Well, since when did we agree we were going to greet each other like this?”
“Oh shut up you swine!”
“Ethan...what’s wrong?”
“What’s wrong? I’ll tell you what’s wrong! You little traitor! You get married and don’t invite me! You have a party and don’t find it important to invite me over! That’s my worth in your eyes, eh?”
“No...that’s not. I actually...” Joe weighed the idea of telling Ethan all about the mistake, and Ariel’s decision, he decided against telling. ”The wedding was unplanned, it happened suddenly, out of the blue. And you were abroad during the party and the wedding.”
“So? You couldn’t wait for me? I am your best friend you know. This was a perfect opportunity lost, to be your best man. I don’t know who else is going to let me be their best man.”
“I’m sure many people in this office would want you to be their best man.”
“Not unless I force them to.” Ethan whined.
“I didn’t have a best man, if that’s a consolation. There was a bridesmaid, but no best man.”
“Well, I don’t care. You weren’t a very good friend, so I’m going to set an example of true friendship and give you these two free tickets and passes to hotels in Egypt. They’re all paid for, and so is your vacation. One full week of paid leave. The flights are for tomorrow, so you can’t say no. Now see you in a week.”
“But...”
“See you! If you waste a single minute in this office I will fire you.”
“But...”
“1...2...3...I’m serious...4...”
“Bye!”

Ariel woke up with a scream. “No!” She yelled as she woke up. She had the most terrible dream. She looked around for her clock. Was it morning? She firmly believed that morning dreams, as the superstition goes, would come true. To her disappointment, it was morning. She looked around the room angrily. She slept on the couch...how did she end up on of the many bedrooms? Instantly a thought came to her mind-Joe. She angrily threw her pillow to the door.
She didn’t want to remember her dream. Usually whenever she woke up, she couldn’t remember her dreams, no matter how hard she tried. She would dream of Wu Chun, in the days they were going out, and wake up with a smile on her face. But she could never really remember that dream. Now however, her dream was etched in her brain like a tattoo.
She dreamt that she was getting married to Joe again, and she was smiling. How could she smile? She hated Joe. And then, if that wasn’t enough, she kissed him willingly. Add to that, all her parents and his parents and their friends were watching. Everyone was happy, especially Joe. Then he said to her...”I’m very happy you forgot about your revenge and fell in love with me, I mean come on, who wouldn’t?” Saying this he laughed.
Ariel quickly got up and reached for the phone. She had to call Ella and tell her about the dream. She realized that the dream might as well happen. She hadn’t done anything to Joe yet. The one time she did something remotely mean, was when she insulted his parents, but then she went ahead and apologised to them.
Now, if you look at her, you would think she was a regular housewife. She was cooking breakfast for her husband, entertaining her husband’s friends, sharing fears and dreams with her husband. She might as well have worn a ‘Property of Joe Cheng’ T-shirt.
She hadn’t taken her revenge. She hadn’t made him feel the pain she felt, and is still feeling after loosing Wu Chun. Instead she was being nice to him out of guilt! Just because she insulted his parents, and she saw his tears she became soft and forgot about her whole plan.
Who knows? Maybe they were alligator tears. Maybe he planned this whole thing. Maybe he was taking advantage of her soft heart. Well, she wouldn’t let that happen anymore. She had to take revenge. But how? What could she do? Murder had crossed her mind, but she got terrified of going to jail. Besides she couldn’t even hurt a fly.
“Ella! What do I do? I need revenge!”
“Do you really?” Ella asked calmly.
“Do I really what?” Ariel asked breaking out of her trance. She hadn’t heard a word of their conversation. Actually, she only heard her words. She hadn’t noticed that Ella was quiet throughout her mumblings or the sarcastic edge to her tone.
“Do you really want revenge? I mean, Ariel, sweetie...I know you. You aren’t that type to take revenge. You cant even hurt a cockroach.”
“The phrase is ‘hurt a fly’ and I can if that fly has ruined my life.”
“Joe did not ruin your life!” Ella yelled so loud that Ariel had to hold the receiver a little away from her ears. “He saved you from marrying that lout of a man Wu Chun, and instead of thanking him, you went ahead and married him! You ruined your life and his! And if that wasn’t stupid enough, you actually want to take revenge! YOU! You of all people! The gentlest person I ever met, the one who couldn’t even hurt a cock...” Ella paused. “...a fly!”
“Ella, give me proof! Give me proof that Wu Chun was a lout. My Wu was an angel! He loved me. I loved him. He was the one who was cheated here. He thought I betrayed him. Think of all the pain he’s in now.”
“Pain my ass!” Ella retorted. “I bet he’s off celebrating with that witch Angelina!”
“Ella, please! You have no proof of that.” Ariel said on the verge of tears.
“Ok...ok Ariel. I see that I am hurting you.” Ella said sensing the sorrow in Ariel’s voice. “I promise to get you proof. Proof, that Wu Chun is a lout! I promise. Till then, please don’t do anything stupid.”
“I’ll try.” Ariel sighed and slowly placed the receiver on its cradle. The door bell rang, and Ariel went to answer it wondering who it could be. To her surprise it was Joe.
“I...” He said as he sat on the couch. “Sit.” He commanded, and Ariel followed thinking it to be silly to protest in such small matters. “My boss gave us tickets to go to Egypt...a week’s holiday. I totally understand if you don’t want to go. But I always wanted to go to Egypt. I just never had the chance. It’s completely up to you, if you want to go or not. I...”
“Let’s go.”
“What?”
“Let’s go...you always wanted to go right? Let’s go now.”
“Are you sure?”
“Yes, completely. Lets go. I’ll go pack my things.” Ariel said as she left the room.
Joe stood there tongue-tied. All he said was he wanted to go and she agreed? Maybe Ariel had forgotten about her revenge?
But that wasn’t true. Ariel went into her room and started packing her clothes with a bright smile on her face. This trip was exactly what she needed. She didn't care if it was Egypt or Ethiopia. She would make him suffer.

Lastly watch slumdog millionaire. It's an American movie about India and it's really good and romantic. It won four golden globes and I wish it wins the oscars too. Tada!
