Chapter 51

"You said you didn't want to see me get hurt, so does that mean you closed your eyes when I cried?" - Source Unknown

***

It had started to snow pretty hard before Xi Men realized he stood alone outside an antique store staring at an amber pendant on display. It was a good thing he wasn't talking to Xiao You before, otherwise people would think he was not only a dirty, grimy begger but a dirty, grimy, insane beggar as well.

Frozen globs of tomatoes stained his now ruined Armani coat, his forehead was starting to itch, the spot where Xiao You squarely hit him with an egg felt slightly bruised. Xi Men tried to muffle a curse. He couldn't believe Xiao You left him without even saying a word. What the hell was he, a plague to be avoided at all cost? It's not like he smelled like ass, in fact he liberally doused himself with Polo cologne just before leaving the hotel this morning and he happened to be one of those men who enjoyed taking showers thankyouverymuch!

Xi Men started to walk, muttering to himself about to idiot women friends with even more idiot women. His feet led him back to exactly the same spot he was at this morning, standing outside Xiao You's apartment building staring up at her window.

He noticed the car was gone which meant Ah Si took San Cai back to the hotel. Good, those two idiots needed to have a little talk.

"Oh crap!" Xi Men groaned. If San Cai at the hotel that meant he can't even go back to change out of his starting to smell clothes and into new ones. "Son of a bitch!" Guess he'd be keeping Xiao You company after all. But first he needed to get some 'I come in peace!' gifts, mostly because judging from the way she bolted, she didn't exactly seem too keen to be with him. He likely ran the risk of getting a door slammed on his face.

Tucking his gloved hands in his pocket, Xi Men went in the store.

Xiao You tried not to gape. Really she did. To no avail of course. She stared dumbfoundedly at Xi Men who stood outside her apartment door with that oh-so sexy smile of his. She was perfectly aware that she looked like a fish out of water with her mouth opening and closing with no sound coming out.

"C--c-can I-I c-come in-n?"

Xi Men's stuttering speech didn't come from the fact that he was nervous, because really, Xiao You thought he had absolutely nothing to be nervous about. The stuttery sentence was a direct result of him being frozen. Literally.

"What the hell happened you?" Xiao You didn't wait for a reply, which she wouldn't have gotten anyway as Xi Men's teeth were too busy chattering in his mouth. She dragged him inside towards the living room where it was a toasty seventy five degrees. She ran to the kitchen and turned the heat up up to eighty five for his benefit.

"What happened?" She asked again. Why she did she had no idea since it was obvious he couldn't formulate a sentence beyond: "I-I--I..."

Xiao You managed to pry two grocery bags out of Xi Men's hands and a box from a local flowershop. It was probably a last minute for San Cai from Dao Ming Si.

A little panicked at his condition, Xiao You grabbed all the towels in the closet and a thick blanket which she placed on the heater to warm up, the towels she brought to Xi Men.

"Take off your gloves!" She ordered.

"C--can't..."

Xiao You sighed. At least now he could actually somewhat communicate. Even if only barely.

She pulled his leather gloves off of his frozen solid hands and unwound his soakin wet scarf from around his neck. All these she tossed aside.

Xi Men remained still as Xiao You rubbed his head dry with a towel, when she finished, she then proceeded to take off his coat.

"Take off your clothes!" She said before heading towards the kitchen.

Xi Men froze. Figuratively this time. Did she just tell him to take his clothes off?

"What are you doing?" Xiao You practically shrieked. She came back to the living room to find Xi Men standing still. "Oh for the love of God!" She threw up her hands in exasperation. "I'll do it for you!"

Xi Men protested lamely when Xiao You started unbuttoning his shirt. "N--no! Xiao Y-You...I-I'll do it!"

She ignored him. Instead she lectured as she started to tug his sweater up over his head. "I cannot believe you'd be dumb enough to run around Toronto, in the middle of a Canadian blizzard, at one in the freaking morning!" She threw the drenched sweater on top of the rest of his clothes.

Xi Men groaned mentally. Xiao You undressing him had been a main fixture of his day dreams lately, but undressing him in a sexual kind of way--not because his ass was in danger of succumbing to hypothermia.

"Off!" Next to come off was his shirt, up and over his head again. She immediately grabbed the blanket from the heater and placed it around his shoulders.

"Better?"

Xi Men nodded. It was all he could do. No words were forthcoming from his mouth. His body was reacting in a way it shouldn't.

"What were you thinking!" Xiao You sat on the floor and started to take off his shoes. Xi Men was very aware that her face was eye level with his--

"Ooof!" She tugged really hard on his leather shoes.

"You aren't even wearing proper clothing. You have no right to be out wearing only a leather and these pants! You probably aren't even wearing thermal underwear!"

Xi Men tried to focus on what she was saying. Honest he was. But damn! His imagination was going on overdrive. Images of Xiao You undressing him down to his underwear and having her way with him was too much not to elicit a reaction from his not so little friend down there.

Holy crap! His brain was veering along the lines of a ridiculously bad romance novel.

Xiao You finished with his shoes and socks, she stood up and started to fumble with his belt.

That snapped Xi Men to attention.

"What are you doing?" He grabbed her hands.

Xiao You looked at him oddly. "Taking off your pants." She said it like she took off his pants on an everyday basis. "Listen to me Xi Men, your pants are soaking wet, we need to get them off and then you can sit and get warmed off. You have to get them off, if you don't, you'll get sick."

"I-I'll do it!"

"Can you?"

He nodded. Turned around and started to unbuckle his belt. He heard Xiao You sigh behind him.

"I'll go get your hot cocoa from the microwave."

Xi Men grunted a response. Peeling his wet pants off was a bitch. When he finally managed to, he had exerted too much energy already and he was spent.

Xiao You came back carrying two mugs of steaming hot cocoa. She sat on the couch opposite him.

"Careful, it's really hot." She warned.

He heard her take a deep breath and braced himself for more lectures.

He wasn't wrong.

"First rule of winter: LAYERING! Pile your clothes on, you can never be too warm. Thick socks and sturdy boots, and when they say blizzard or snow storm, that usually means STAY INDOORS!"

Xi Men watched Xiao You talk, he tried to listen to what she was saying but all the words that came out of her mouth went in one ear and right out the other. His eyes couldn't help but direct their attention at her lips. Gorgeous red lips. He wanted to bang his head against the nearest wall. Lust is bad, very, very bad!

Oh but he wanted her! He wanted her with every fiber of his being. And he will have her!

Xiao You's heartbeat managed to finally slow down. The sight of Xi Men standing outside her apartment looking like a frozen popsicle almost gave her a heart attack.

Part of her knew she was overreacting but some people really seriously do get sick from overexposure to the cold, especially if they weren't used to it. She couldn't understand how he could be stupid enough to risk his health for two bags of groceries.

"Really Xi Men, don't tell me you just had to go to a grocery story tonight! And to Giants Supermarket too of all places, that's at least a twenty minute walk from here! And why didn't you take a cab? What could possibly be so important you had to get it now?" Xiao You knew she sounded like a nagging wife but she couldn't believe his stupidity. She wanted to--

"Candles." Xi Men said.

Xiao You couldn't have heard right. "Candles?"

"I heard San Cai say earlier you were afraid of the dark. The candles you bought earlier, we left them in the alley by mistake. I figured you'd be alone tonight." He took another sip of his drink. "I didn't know know if there will be a power outtage, I just didn't want you to be afraid."

Xiao You tried to swallow past the lump in her throat, the pricking in her eyes suspiciously felt like tears.

She excused herself and went to the kitchen to wash her cup. She had soaped it three times before she noticed Xi Men standing in the room with her, wrapped in the lavender blanket she had given him earlier.

"Xiao You?"

She slammed the cup down and turned to face him. Her eyes were red rimmed.

Xi Men was taken aback.

There was a slight bitterness in her voice when she spoke. "Why do you make it so hard for me to stop loving you?"
