Stay, My Heroine.

Chapter 39

“If I eat, would you stop trying to clean?” Yoo Chun asked from his seat at the dining room table. I looked from where I was in the living room and stopped what I was doing, surprised by Yoo Chun’s question. He gave me a blank stare and I tightened my grip on the broom in my hands.

“What?” I asked, dumbfounded. I brushed a piece of hair away from my forehead, which was coated with a thin layer of sweat. I had been at Yoo Chun’s house for the past few days, running errands, cleaning the house, and cooking the meals as he made arrangements for his brother’s funeral. Though I cook every meal without burning it, Yoo Chun never had the time or appetite to eat.

“I get tired seeing you running around like that. It’s my house, you’re my guest, you shouldn’t be cleaning; I should.” Yoo Chun said, shaking his head. His eyes were blood shot red and it was probably from him crying at night. He would never let me see him cry except for that one time. I suspected that he was ashamed of him doing so or it was because if he did, he would feel like a burden to me.

I bit my lip. The truth was, I wanted to help ease the pain for Yoo Chun in some way, but it seemed as if I was doing worse.

“I…I was just trying to help.” I said as I swept the broom under the coffee table to collect the dust from under it.

“Seriously, stop,” Yoo Chun ordered, walking towards me. “I really don’t want you to do this. You’ve been doing so much for me these few days, I feel like you’re my servant, not my friend.” Yoo Chun gave me a faint smile. It was one of the better-looking smiles that he had given me since that day, which was a week ago.

“You’ve actually done a lot,” Yoo Chun said, taking the broom from me. “I really want to thank you for the past week…for helping me. Really. You don’t know how much that meant to me. I was really emotionally unstable and you were my pillar. Thanks…”

“You’re welcome.” I said, mirroring his faint smile. He didn’t know that though I had done all that I can, I still have failed. I didn’t ease the pain; he was still hurting. I looked at the clock. “Ah, I have to go. Jae Joong’s coming to pick me up.”

Just then, as if on cue, the sounding of a horn could be heard from outside and I scurried to the front door and slipped on my shoes. Yoo Chun held the door open for me. I stopped in front of him and gave him another smile. “It’s going to be okay, Yoo Chun.”

He smiled lightly once again, and his smiles now were unlike the smiles he had given me before. His eyes don’t sparkle when he smiled at me now. It was like his life was dull and he was weary. It worried me. “Thanks.”

Jae Joong, who was in Ajusshi, waved to Yoo Chun from the door and Yoo Chun gave a friendly, light wave back. As I took a seat at the passenger seat, Jae Joong gave my hand a light squeeze. I smiled at him and then turned to wave Yoo Chun goodbye.

“How is he holding up?” Jae Joong asked with one hand on the steering wheel and the other one holding my hand.

“I really don’t know. He doesn’t talk to me… it’s like he just sits there. He’s so different from before…”

“It must have taken a toll on him.” Jae Joong agreed.

“I don’t know, Jae Joong. He looks so sad, so vulnerable. And I can’t do anything. I feel so helpless.” I said, turning to look at Jae Joong, who gave me a shrug.

“You’re doing all you can do, Heroine. You’re being a good friend and that’s what he needs the most. From what I’ve gathered, he’s pretty close with his brother…he just needs time. It’s not going to heal overnight, honey. Remember how you felt about Legs when he disappeared?”

“Who told you about Legs?” I asked, appalled, but I really didn’t have to. Legs was the tadpole I brought back home when the frogs in our science lab in elementary school gave birth. Every kid in my class got a tadpole. I brought my tadpole home and after a month, when Legs started morphing, Chang Min said it was nasty and did not belong in the house and without my consent, put Leg’s tank outside. The next day, Legs was nowhere to be found. Till this day, I do not know if it ran away, or got eaten by Miss Lam’s cats next door.

“Chang Min told me.”

“Figures.” I muttered as I sat back in my seat.

“The point is, Heroine, that it’ll gradually get better. Time heals all pain.” Jae Joong said knowingly. “Don’t try to rush him into forgetting. Sometimes, you need to remember your past to get to your future.”

“I just wish… You know, Jae, sometimes, I feel like this world is so unfair. The people who are so deserving, they don’t have everything, and the people who don’t deserve it… I just feel so bad sometimes. This world isn’t fair. Life isn’t fair. In a blink of an eye, you can lose everything you have.”

“That’s why we have to hold on tighter and cherish every moment,” Jae Joong said softly and looked at me in the eyes. His grip on my hand tightened. “Sometimes, when I’m with you, I feel like there are not enough hours in the day.”

I smiled and a surge of happiness rushed through me. I knew I was one of the luckier ones, to have found someone like Jae Joong. “Don’t worry Jae, we have forever to look forward to.”

-----

“Shut up, dammit! Oh! OH EWWWWWW.”

Chang Min withdrew his hand from my face and tried to wipe my saliva on my shirt, but I dodged his hands and he looked at his hands in disgust as I stuck out my tongue at him. “You are so freaking gross, ew. I don’t even know why Jae likes you. You must’ve given him something to drink. How can he stand you?”

“Hey! You’re the one who kidnapped me first! What the hell were you trying to do, covering my mouth and dragging me into the living room?”

“I need to talk to you without Jae Joong around, geez,” Chang Min said as he dug his hands into his pockets. He looked over his shoulder, toward the direction of the kitchen, where Jae Joong was preparing dinner.

“Why?” I asked, tilting my head, curious. Chang Min usually tried his best to avoid me, now he was trying to talk to me? That was weird.

“Wait. I’m hearing from Jae that you’re hanging around Yoo Chun this past week. Wasn’t he that rapist-looking dude that Jae Joong didn’t like?” Chang Min asked as he folded his arms and looked at me crossly.

I wrinkled my nose. “Was it Jae Joong who was complaining?”

“Actually, this was the part where I’m going to ask—did you drug him or something? He seemed…okay with all of this. I was actually the one who was making a big deal. What the hell is going on? Where’s Kim Jae Joong? What have you done to him?! Tell me, now!” Chang Min held me in a headlock.

“Yah! Shim Chang Min! WHAT IN THE WORLD ARE YOU DOING, LET ME GO NOOOOWWWW!” I cried and Chang Min put a large hand over my mouth again.

“Yah, shut up. Jae Joong’s going to think that I’m abusing you.”

I wanted to tell him that that was exactly what he was doing, but I wasn’t able to do that with his big, ugly hand over my mouth. Ew, who knew where it had been and what he had touched?! Gross.

He finally pulled his hand away from my mouth and I was finally able to breathe again. “You’re the only person thinking into this way too much. Jae Joong doesn’t care because he trusts me and he knows I love him. Park Yoo Chun and I are… friends.”

“Friends? I’m not so sure about that, considering your history.” Chang Min said, rubbing his chin and eyeing me with his weird eyes. Seriously, how did his eyes come out so deformed and mine perfectly normal? He might just be an alien and not my brother.

“Chang Min…don’t be stupid. I’m with Jae Joong now. Whatever feelings that was between Yoo Chun and I a year ago has totally vanished. We’re just friends, okay? He knows that I’m with Jae Joong. He knows that we’re in love. The relationship I have with Yoo Chun is strictly platonic!”

“You better be right. If he’s the cause of anything between you and Jae Joong, I will…” Chang Min put up his fists.

“What, Chang Min? Strike a mean ‘model’ pose? Seriously, you’re not scary.”

“Why you little!” Chang Min cried and captured me in a head lock once again. “Say you’re sorry!”

“No!”

“Say it!”

“NOOO!”

“Say… Chang Min is going to be the hottest male model on the face of the planet Earth!”

“Ha, you wish!” I said and I chomped down hard on his arm. I smiled in victory as I heard a high-pitched scream and his grip on my neck loosened.

“Yah, what are you two kids doing?” Chang Min and I turned around to see Jae Joong in his frilly pink apron, holding a spatula in one hand and putting his hands on his hips on the other. “It’s dinner time. Heroine, come help me set the table.”

“Okay!” I said and wriggled out of Chang Min’s grasp and jogged towards Jae Joong. As I followed Jae Joong into the kitchen, I turned around and blew a raspberry at Chang Min, who only glared at me in return.

“Shim Chang Min is not the hottest male model on the face of planet Earth. Shim Chang Min is a Martian.”

MWAHHHAHAHA. SEXY NEH? ;D

omg. i have been neglecting my fic too long T_T

so um, i've been noticing...i've seen a lot of Team JJ supporters and sadly very little Team YC supporters
(or maybe a lot of people converted to team JJ throughout the story)
everyone thinks that Jae + Heroine belongs together, but think about this carefully.
does heroine fully belongs to jaejoong? or does she belong to Yoochun?
because Heroine met Yoochun first, was interested in Yoochun first, kiss Yoochun first, "dated" Yoochun first.
So who will she be with in the end?

-- just some suggestions. don't let this throw you off ;D

sad to say, SMH is progressing very slowly. but i'm working on it! =P lol its just that...I've been kinda lazy about posting nowadays. SORRY.

lots of love,
