Chapter 2

Entry 2: Mirror Image

Jaejoong’s Pov

I was with my team. We were talking about the company’s latest business venture—Fashion. Kim Empire is primarily an oil distributing and hotel-managing corporation. But due to the noticeable upsurge of people’s interest in custom-made clothing and accessories, the company has decided to include garment making in their trade. And I, being the company’s sole heir, was tasked to oversee the said undertaking.

I was still laughing, about the rival company’s disastrous fashion show, when I caught sight of Yoochun and Bomi at the shadowy corner of the room. I looked around. My grip tightened around the champagne glass. What do they think they’re doing? Are they freaking crazy? What if one of the guests sees them? It would create a nasty speculation about me. I can’t let that happen. Bomi had already managed to destroy my happy life, and I would not give her the chance to smear my good name. It was all I had left.

I excused myself from the group and strode towards the pair.

When I reached their spot, Yoochun was already asking Bomi about her bruise. My wife was not answering. Good, I can still appease my friend’s over-suspicious mind. I walked behind Yoochun, ““Is something the matter, Yoochun?” he turned around.

“Jaejoong, what happened? Did you guys get into an accident?” Yoochun looked worried.

I noticed my wife’s panicky expression. She had better be alarmed, I thought. I smiled and walked over to Bomi. I slipped my arm across her back, faintly pressing the sore muscle, and rested my hand on her waist. I felt her body shudder. “Oh, it was just plain clumsiness. She fell off the bed the other night and bumped herself against the side table.”

Yoochun, doubtful, looked at his sister, “Is it true, Bomi?”

Bomi just nodded.

I smiled once more, pulling her closer. “Hey, bro, I heard that you’re going to handle your family’s real estate business in Japan, is it true?” changing the subject altogether.

“I’m just going to persuade some Japanese businessmen to invest in our company. Dad has no plans of retiring yet, thank God! ” Yoochun replied.

“It would be a success, don’t worry.” I reassured him. Yoochun, back in college, was a tycoon-in-the-making.

“How long will you be gone?” I asked.

“Hmmm, 3 months the longest.” He quipped.

“You heard that, honey?”, my voice mildly deceptive. “You’re brother will be gone for quite sometime. I think you should give him a Bon voyage party.” I looked deep into my wife’s frightened eyes, she squirmed a little. I just smirked.

“Oh, that won’t be necessary, Jae. I would leave early tomorrow morning. Actually, I just dropped by to greet you on your birthday and say goodbye to my sister.” Yoochun smiled at Bomi. “Oh yeah, before I forgot…” He took out a piece of paper from his coat’s pocket and gave it to me.

“That’s for Geunjoo. It’s an all-day amusement park reservation note. I know that he’s still too young for that kind of entertainment, but you can probably set it aside for another event or something. It’s a gift since I wasn’t able to attend his party the last time.” Yoochun was referring to my 4-year-old son.

“Thanks.” I scanned the room and motioned for my secretary to come over. “Changmin, would you please make sure that we would be able to make use of this pass for the employees’ children’s Christmas party.” I passed him the white card.

“Yes, sir.” Changmin bowed and walked away.

“So… I’ll go ahead then. I still have to do some last-minute errands for tonight. Happy birthday again.” Yoochun shook my hand and hugged his sister afterwards.

“Take care.” Bomi whispered.

When Yoochun was out of sight, Bomi immediately disentangled herself from me and rubbed her bare arms. She then walked towards the grand staircase. I can already guess where she was heading to--- the nursery.
