“How did we first meet?” KyungJin asked. She closed her eyes, trying to remember. She can fell him slipping away. His hand felt colder than it did before. She ignored the coldness and clutched tighter to his hand. “What were you doing? How was I then?”
“You were beautiful,” Seung Hyun said. He can hear the tiredness in her voice. “Just like now.”
“And you?” KyungJin asked. “You were running away from home. Young, foolish, and hungry for spicy rice cakes.” She found herself answering her question. A tear rolled down her cheek.
Through her closed eyes, KyungJin can feel the soft rays of light hitting her face. She hated it. She wanted this moment to last forever.
“KyungJin,” Seung Hyun started. He couldn’t hold on much longer. “I…have to go somewhere.”
“Oh,” KyungJin answered. A couple more tears streamed down her cheeks. She was unable to look Seung Hyun in the eyes. She was afraid the moment she opened her eyes, he’d be gone, forever. “Come back fast…”
“It’s going to be a while,” Seung Hyun replied. He didn’t want to leave at all. He was fading with the darkness around him.
“Oh,” KyungJin answered. She couldn’t hold in her tears any longer. Yet, she didn’t have the courage to face him.
“I…I’ll wait…so hurry up and come back.”
Seung Hyun let go of her hand and pushed her chin towards his. He can see her brown eyes avoiding him. Softly, Seung Hyun pressed his lips onto hers, taking in the warmth of her tongue. Slowly, he pulled back from her, this time her eyes were glued to his and she couldn’t stop the tears from falling.
“I…” Seung Hyun started. The pain within him was growing bigger. It was pulling him away, away from her. “I love you.”
Slowly, the image of Seung Hyun before began to disappear.
“I love you, too.”
