Chapter 2

“Here’s your souvenir.” Siu Wai handed a box to Alex. Tonight Alex was treating Siu Wai and Wilson for dinner to thank her for buying the auto show collection set for him in Australia.

“Thank you very much! I’ve been looking forward to this!” Alex held the box as if it was a treasure.

Wilson stood up, “Excuse me. You two have a look at the menu first. I’ve to make a phone call and reception here is not very clear.” And he walked out the door.

“So Siu Wai,” Alex asked, “How was your friend’s wedding?”

“It was very hectic and quite chaotic, probably because they didn’t have a lot of planning.” Siu Wai was a little concerned, “I hope that mine would turn out better.”

Alex calmed her down, “Don’t worry. You two still have half a year time for preparations. I am sure it’s going to be a perfect wedding!”

“Thanks Alex! I’d appreciated it” An encouragement from a friend was definitely soothing. With the wedding day approaching, Siu Wai began to feel more and more stressful.

“You were in Sydney for two weeks. Your parents must be very happy to have you back home with them.” Alex knew her parents loved their only daughter and missed her a lot.

“Of course they were happy. Ever since I moved to Hong Kong after finishing school, I only see mom and dad maybe once every year. I feel sorry that I’m always busy and can’t visit them often. Sometimes, they’ll even need to fly here to see me.” Siu Wai was born in Sydney and had left home after graduation. She missed her parents too, “So this time back home, I spent a lot of time staying with them.”

“What else did you do besides attending the wedding and staying with your parents?” Alex certainly knew well about Sydney as he had stayed there for four years. He and Wilson went to university there together, and met Siu Wai at the Orientation, “Wake board? Skydive? Bungee jump?”

“None of those! I visited some of my old school friends and joined their family gatherings. I bought a good novel and for one day I simply stayed home reading through it. The rest of the time I just went shopping and walked around,” Siu Wai raised her wrist, “Look! isn’t this watch beautiful?”

“In the last couple years you’ve changed a lot,” Alex gazed at her, “You were once very active and played something that even us guys thought was too dangerous and wouldn’t dare to try. You can stay up all night clubbing and still went to school the next day. Even when we first came back to Hong Kong, after working three days straight on a promotion project without sleep, you still looked energetic. You always said that making you stay home was absolutely a torture. But look how homely you are now! You only jog and do mild exercise. After 11pm you’ll be home sleeping. You‘ve quitted smoking, drinking, and even strong caffeine coffee. Last time I even saw you taking vitamin supplements!”

“Well I was young at that time! Hey I’m turning…” She whispered, “thirty next year!” She smiled, “I think it’s time for a change. I really want to take good care of myself and have good health. I won’t do anymore harmful and risky things. I’ve done a lot of research and realize how important it is for a woman to have a strong body in order to carry a healthy baby. I have to make sure that I am well-prepared for it! I am really looking forward to that day.”

“You woman!” Alex did not know how to argue for that. In fact, he truly wished that her dream can come true.

“Which woman?” Wilson walked back to their table, questioning.

“This woman here!” Alex pointed as Siu Wai.

“To make it clear, “Wilson held her waist, “she is MY woman!”. Siu Wai smiled sweetly and fell on his shoulders.

“You two stop doing that in front of me! Let’s order now. I’m starving!”

“Hurry up Alex!” Wilson turned back, “Mr. Chan is waiting for us! He needs to see the draft before he leaves for Taiwan tonight!”

“Don’t rush me! I am coming!” Alex was tailgating him, "Gosh I can’t walk that fast recently. Maybe it’s time to lose some weight.”

Wilson was impatient and decided to go ahead to Mr. Chan’s office first. He was walking hasty and at the same time turning back to see if Alex was following. He was not aware that a girl was in front of him and bumped right onto her. She was about fall and Wilson quickly grasped her arm.

“I am sorry,” Wilson apologized. The girl looked into his eyes and at once had a shocking feeling over him. His deep masculine voice softly flowed around her ears. She could feel her heart pounding and her consciousness fading out.

Alex saw the incident and ran over. He was dazed by the beauty of this young girl, “Are you ok?” He cannot keep his eyes off her.

“I am fine. Don’t worry about it!” The girl shook her head trying to clear her thoughts. A bus coincidentally arrived and she quickly jumped onto it.

On the bus, she shyly peeked out the window, hoping to give Wilson one more glance.

On the street, Alex wondered how he could see the girl again.
