It was a Saturday noon and the school was quiet. There was no class, and most students residing on campus had gone out to the town center to enjoy another relaxing weekend.
“Alex!” Wilson bumped into Alex at the student building. Alex walked over with a girl beside him. No wonder he was so ‘busy’ these days.
“Wilson, this is Michelle.” Alex introduced. The girl gave a little timid smile.
“Hi.” Wilson greeted.
“We’re going out for lunch, movies, bowling…” Alex picked up the girl’s hand and waved at Wilson, “See you tonight at residence. I’ll talk to you then.”
Wilson watched their backs and was glad that Alex had a new target now. He looked at his watch and paced to the bus loop. His bus had just arrived and he hopped onto it.
At the same time, the naughty girl passed by and saw this cool guy on the bus. She had nothing to do anyway, so she decided to follow him.

The girl tailgated him to the older area of city center and entered a little coffee shop at the corner of the street. She scanned around but did not see him. Just when she spun her head, she saw him standing right behind her.
“Whoa!” She freaked out.
“You followed me to here. Why?” Wilson asked, still in the same cold voice.
“Hm…what are you doing right here?” The girl looked at him, “Come on! Don’t be so cool. I just want to make friends with you…”
“I don’t need any friend.” Wilson muttered.
“What did you say?” The girl was surprised. She thought she heard it wrong.
“Excuse me. I need to work.” Wilson tried to walk away.
“Oh! You work part-time here at this coffee shop! That’s normal and there’s nothing you need to hide for.” The girl did not understand, “What do you do here? Server?” She realized Wilson had some cleaning supplies in his hands.
“I do anything here. But today is the cleaning job.” Wilson replied without looking at her.
“Really?” The girl approached him.
“Excuse me.” He moved his body away, “I really need to start working now or I’ll lose my job.” He wore his gloves and started wiping the tables.
“Alright, I will sit here and watch you then.” The girl pulled a chair over and sat down.
“Whatever you want to do, it’s up to you.” Wilson ignored her and continued with his work.
The girl kept quiet for a while, but soon, she started talking again, “Wow, you work fast! You’ve cleaned all the tables and almost done with the floor already.”
Wilson did not say a word. She rested her elbow on the table and leaned her cheek in her palm. She was bored and started fiddling with her legs.
Wilson felt uncomfortable with the girl staring at him while he was working. Finally, he suggested, “If you are bored, go grab yourself a slice of cake.”
The girl smiled happily, “I want chocolate mousse! I love chocolates. Are you getting it for me?”
He surrendered, “You go to the counter and choose one yourself. It’s on me.” As his co-worker served the girl, Wilson sneaked into the kitchen with his mop and bucket.
Soon, he finished cleaning the kitchen and walked back out. The girl licked her fork and threw down the magazine on the table, “Finally you’re done! So you’re off work now?”
“Not yet.” Wilson was a little tired already. He only wanted to finish his work and go.
“What else do you still need to do?” The girl was disappointed.
“Clean the toilets.” Wilson said uncaringly.
“What?!” The girl did not believe it.
“It doesn’t matter if you believe it or not.” He picked up the cleaning supplies and walked to the washroom.
The girl followed him but as soon as she approached the washroom door, the stingy smell made her sick. She peeked inside and it was very dirty.
“This place is disgusting. You aren’t really working in there, huh?” She pinned her nose.
“Well, someone got to do the job. If it’s not disgusting, why would the owner pay people to do the cleaning?” Wilson started wiping the sinks, “Miss, I don’t think you’ll want to stay here for long. It’s time for you to go home now.”
The girl could not stand the smell for any longer and reluctantly walked away. Wilson peeked out and saw her leaving the coffee shop. He sighed.
Wilson finally finished his hard cleaning work of the day. He put the supplies back to the storage room and went to his boss for his pay. He secured the money inside his pocket and stepped out the door. Intuitively, he looked around but did not see the girl. Obviously she had left long time ago. Wilson was a little down and disappointed.
He decided to walk to the bus stop and catch the bus back to campus. Just when he turned his head, he saw the girl standing across the street, waving at him happily.
He walked pacely up to her. He was trying to hide his happiness of seeing her again. The corners of his lips curved up a little, “I thought you left already.”
The girl approached his face, “I was too bored at the coffee shop so I came out and walked around. You…were looking for me? Don’t lie…I saw the expression on your face when you walked out the door…” She pointed at his face and stared at him.
Wilson’s face turned red and did not know what to say.
The girl remembered, “Thanks for the cake…hm…I still don’t know your name yet.”
“Wilson.” He told her.
“Ah…Wilson! Your name is Wilson.” She wondered, “As a courtesy, aren’t you supposed to ask for my name too?”
“Yes. So what’s your name?” Wilson repeated after her.
“Serena. But my family and friends call me by my Chinese name Siu Wai.” She smiled.
“Siu Wai.” Wilson called politely.
Siu Wai rolled her eyes, “Now you consider yourself to be my friend? I never said so.”
Wilson was stunned by her answer.
“I’m just joking!” Siu Wai giggled. She found this guy very cute, “I’m in first year Media and Communications. What about you?”
“I’m in Business, first year also. I’m an international student from Hong Kong.” Wilson answered.
“Oh, you’re from Hong Kong. I’m….a banana…made in Australia!” She pointed at herself.
Wilson smiled at the way she referred herself to.
Siu Wai tilted her head, “Now are you REALLY finished with your work for today?”
“Yes, and I’m going back to the campus now. I’m taking the bus.” Wilson and Siu Wai began to walk down the street.
“I can give you a ride.” She pointed at a little red scooter parked in front of them.
“No thanks. I’m really dirty and sweating badly after working. I don’t think you’ll want to ride with me.” Wilson stepped away from her.
“Come on! I don’t mind. You treated me for the cake and I give you a ride. Fair?” Siu Wai insisted and gazed at him with anticipation in her eyes. Wilson tried to say ‘no’ but the word stuck in his throat, and his feet naturally followed her. As he was hesitating, Siu Wai already wore the helmet on him and showed a big smile on her face. Wilson smiled back and they hopped onto the scooter. Wilson felt uneasy as he had never been so close to a girl before, and his heart was pounding wildly. He leaned backward and grabbed onto the seat, trying to leave a little gap between him and Siu Wai. Siu Wai put on her helmet and turned her head a little, “Ready?” She started the engine and dashed onto the street.
