“Sweetie, could you please help to take these plates out to the dining table?” Kylie asked her son while busy preparing the food in the kitchen with the other women.
Anson reached over and walked out with the plates carefully.
“Let’s stack the plates here. How about napkins…” Wallace’s father was setting up the table. Anson meekly helped on the side.
“Wow. Thanks for helping out, Anson.” Wallace looked over and smiled. He turned to Andrew, “He seems to have grown up a lot suddenly, ever since he went to Grade 1. It’s been only a couple weeks since he started though.”
“I noticed that too. He’s been good lately.” Andrew whispered, “See how long that will last….until he starts whining for toys and stuffs.”
Wallace chuckled, “It surprises me that you and Kylie end up sending Anson to his International School, and not one of the strict private schools. I thought Kylie always wanted him to go to those instead. But you were a supporter of the international school to be more stress-free.”
Andrew said, “One of the reasons why she didn’t want to send Anson to British International School was because she teaches there. She didn’t want him to be at the school with her…you know…if his class teach is colleague of mommy…might look to other students that he’s getting privileges even if he really isn’t. That’s not good for him. Now we’re sending him to this other International School. He’s all by himself, so it’s good training for his independence too.”
“I see.” Wallace nodded.
“Kylie and I had a settlement.” Andrew continued, “Let Anson go to International School…so less stress on homework and exams etc. But he will continue with his extracurricular activities, like music lessons, drawing, skating…”
“The boy always has a busy schedule.” Wallace giggled.
“Can’t help it. His mother is a fan of those ‘fun’ classes.” Andrew stuck out his tongue, “He’ll start French soon. Classes will be once a week. At first I thought Kylie registered him for a short interest session for kids at a community center. But she actually went to the French Cultural Association and enrolled for the whole school year. Didn’t expect to be so serious about it. Well, she insisted to go for the proper training blah blah blah. Fine…”
“You two is a very interesting couple.” Wallace teased.
“She’s doing all these for Anson’s good. I understand. She’s just too nervous and serious sometimes, while I am the opposite. So now the two of us discuss openly over everything and try to compromise.” Andrew smiled, “So far so good.”
They heard Kylie and Sabrina chatting in the kitchen.
“…playgroups for babies are really good for their developments. Babies can attend as early as 3 months old…”
“Really?”
“…oh no…” Wallace slapped his forehead and laughed, “See what your wife is teaching to my wife!”
Andrew laughed.
Mrs. Ku put out some chicken wings and fries to the dining table. Anson’s eyes glowed; he loved fries.
“…looks like we’re missing somebody here.” Andrew looked around, “Where’s your dog? She was around when we got here, then she went missing.” Her bed in the living room was empty.
Wallace smiled, “Come over with me.” He led the way.
They softly opened the door of the baby room.
“Shhhh…” Wallace gestured.
The baby was sleeping soundly in her crib.
Wallace gazed at his daughter wrapped in a soft tiny pink blanket. So lovely; she was his little princess.
Puppy Coco on the floor was also sleeping. She got waken up by the sound and looked, then realizing it was Wallace and familiar face Andrew, she yawned and went back to sleep.
The puppy is guarding the little baby!
“Your baby and puppy sleep together. That’s so cute!” Andrew chuckled.
“Ever since baby came home, Coco’s been excited and always wants to stick with her. She tags along to the baby room. So we just let her. We set up another puppy bed in the baby room for Coco and also leave the one in the living room. Coco can sleep wherever she wants.” Wallace bent down and cuddled the puppy’s hair.
What a family: daddy, mommy, baby and the puppy – a loving cozy family that Wallace and Sabrina had been yearning for.
The baby’s hand shivered. She appeared to be waking up. She gently opened her eyes and looked around.
“…whoa…whoa..” She bursted out a cry.
Puppy Coco bounced up. She circled around to check on the baby.
“…no panick. It’s ok Coco. Come on…stay on one side…” Wallace comforted the puppy, the went to the baby, “…oh…be good be good…my little sweetie Samantha…”
“…whoa…whoa…” She kept crying.
“…hungry or something?” Wallace cuddled and rocked softly, “Stop crying huh?”
“Hey what’s wrong?” Sabrina heard the crying and came to the baby room. She reached over and held baby Samantha, “Usually you stop crying when daddy hugs. What’s up with you today?”
“…woo…woo…” She quieted down, but still sobbing.
“…no it’s not wet.” Sabrina touched her little butt then her forehead, “Not sick either. And you shouldn’t be hungry yet.”
“Let’s bring her out to the living room.” Wallace suggested.
“Okie. Maybe she heard all the fun we have and feels left out.” Sabrina carried her daughter to the living room.
Puppy Coco tailgated.
“…here comes baby Samantha!” The others cheered.
“Coco!” Anson grabbed the puppy, “I was looking for you. Where did you go?”
She licked his palm.
Sabrina leaned on the sofa and cuddled the little one.
“Baby baby.” Anson was excited, “Auntie Sabrina, why is she crying?”
“Maybe just throwing little temper.” Sabrina smiled softly.
“Oh baby Samantha. Be good.” Anson patted caringly, “Don’t cry. Don’t cry.”
Samantha instantly stopped crying. She spun around and kept her eyes at Anson.
“Hey she listens to his words! She so listens to him!” The adults felt amazed.
“Of course. My Anson is such a great boy.” Andrew was proud.
“Maybe because Samantha remembers when she was in mommy’s tummy, that Anson made the promise to help taking care of her. He will feed and change diapers for her.” Sabrina laughed.
“See how Samantha is looking still at Anson.” Mrs. Ku teased, “She seems to be attracted and so she listens to him! Hey maybe they will make a couple when they grow up…”
“Yes you’re right! You’re right! Haha…”
“That’s sounds a great idea!”
“Right Anson? Do you want Samantha to be your girlfriend?”
They surrounded him.
Anson blushed. He is shy!
“Oh look how your little face turns red.” Wallace hugged his cutie pie.
“Uncle Wallace.” He bit his lips for help.
“So do you like Samantha?” Uncle Wallace teased him also.
“Hm…” Anson whined and hid behind his parents.
“Hey stop taking advantage of my son.” Kylie giggled, “Even though I don’t object to that idea.”
“Too soon to say. It all depends on how your Samantha grows up to be like. My Anson can have lots of choices. I’m sure he’ll have a lot of girlfriends. He got a few from kindergarten already.” Andrew bragged, “Because he’s as smart and good looking as his daddy.”
The others booed.
Kylie slapped his arm, “Be serious. It’s really time for you to become more serious.”
“What.” Andrew scratched his head.
“I gave you the hints when we were at the car coming over. You still didn’t get it.” Kylie curled her lips.
“Huh? You went to the doctor for a check-up this morning, right? I thought you just have a stomach flu.” Andrew said.
“Not stomach flu!” Kylie whined and lowered her voice, “You’re going to be daddy again!”
Andrew opened his eyes widely, “No kidding!”
“What kidding.” Kylie whispered and frowned, “Don’t you know what you’ve done?”
Andrew comforted, “Don’t get mad. Stay calm. Stay calm.”
“Hurray!” The others cheered, “Congrats!”
The couple smiled sweetly at each other.
“You said you wanted a girl, right?” Sabrina held Kylie’s hand and asked.
“A girl sounds good.” Kylie stroked her tummy.
“So wow…Anson will be a big brother.” Wallace wrapped around him.
Anson watched them and thought, “Mommy has a little baby?”
“Yes Anson.” Andrew grasped his hand and put on mommy’s tummy, “Say hi to your little sister.”
“So Anson has to help taking care of little sister, huh?” Wallace smiled.
“But I want a little brother to play with me though.” Anson said.
“A sister can play with you too. She’s cute and pretty.” Andrew convinced.
“So many girls all of a sudden…” Anson curled his lips, “And I have to take care of all of them.”
They gave a guffaw.
“There’s a little sister coming.” Kylie softly patted Anson’s head, “But no matter what, daddy and mommy promise to love you as much as we did in the past. The three of us, add our power together, will pass on our love to the new baby in the family. Sounds good?”
“Daddy and mommy love you, always.” Andrew gave him a hug.
Anson smiled sweetly, “I love you too, daddy and mommy.”
“Good boy.” Kylie pecked his cheek.
“Hey getting hungry! It’s time for dinner!” Andrew reminded as his stomach growling.
“…what’s that smell?” Mr. Ku sniffed.
“…oh we forgot the roasted duck in the oven! Hope it’s not burnt!” Mrs. Ku ran to the kitchen.
“…let us help you…” Wallace and Andrew followed.
“…are you sure Andrew?” Kylie freaked out, “Godmother you’d better not let him touch the duck! He’s not a kitchen person! The last time he dealt with an oven was probably 3 years ago! He might turn your duck into a…chicken!”
Puppy Coco barked.
“See? Even Coco doesn’t trust you!” Kylie giggled.
“Give me some encouragement, teacher. I’m learning hard to become a family man!” Andrew complained.
“Don’t worry Mrs. Ho!” Wallace stuck his head out, “I’ll keep an eye on him!”
They all laughed and enjoyed the happy and blissful time together.
