Madam Ye pushes open the door to JieLun's room so that it gives just a tiny room for her to watch Jo sleeping. She has such a peaceful angelic face, Madam Ye realizes, that no one will ever thought of how tough life has been to her.
Such a strength enclosed in such gentleness- perhaps that's what make JieLun fell helplessly in love with this girl.
Madam Ye remembers the night before JieLun flew to Japan to shoot for Initial D. His son had cried inside her embrace for a lot longer than she could ever remember.
She had sat beside her only son, watching his face falling apart. Never once he appeared any more miserable than that day. Not even when he came home with nothing on Golden Melody Awards a year prior. As a mother, she couldn't stand seeing her son wretched and broken. She always wished she could share a piece of his pain.
"Ma, if God does exist,… why would He let horrible things happen to good people?"
She took a lungful of air and breathed it out. She had prayed days and night for her son, wishing that one day, he would open up his heart and started believing that there's really a greater power out there who watches over every human soul, that there's really a loving God somewhere up there. Though she wanted her JieLun to follow her path and became a believer, she never persuaded him. She wanted JieLun to personally experience God's love, instead of just for the sake of following her path.
"God never promised us a smooth journey, JieLun, but He'll guarantee that we'll have a safe landing. Just remember that every problem happens for a reason. Once we manage to conquer it, we become even stronger than before.
Sometimes we need to experience a bad thing before we could appreciate a good thing."
Jay strode quietly toward the windows. His back was facing his mother.
"Four years ago, a girl was raped by her teacher and got pregnant." His eyes roamed blankly at the dusky early morning outside, "For the sake of not hurting the one she loved, she chose to run and carried her burden and shame alone. She had lost everything; herself, her baby, and her dreams for a bright future," Jay pauses and turns around to meet his mom's gaze, "Ma, tell me if this kind of girl doesn't deserve to be loved."
"Everyone deserved to be loved, JieLun, without an exception." She had said with determination.
"So tell me, Ma, whether it is wrong,” Jay pressed on, walking to approach her, “if I've let myself fall in love with this girl."
Her lips part, as if wanted to say something, but no words come out from her mouth. She took a deep breath and strode toward the kitchen to get herself a glass of water. She felt her throat had become so utterly dry that she couldn't voice out a single sound.
"Love is not a matter of right or wrong, JieLun," She said after downing a glass of water, "To me, love is a miracle. Sometimes you can't explain how and why you fall in love with a certain person."
"Ma, you haven't answered my question." Jay was persistent.
"Well, what do you expect Ma to say?" Her voice grew weak.
"Zhi Yao Ni Shuo Ke Yi, Wo Jiu Bu Guan Bie Ren Shuo De Hua. (As long as you say it's okay, I don't care about what others say)."
She closed her eyes and took a deep breath. She didn’t want to give a wrong advice, yet she didn’t want her son to be unhappy.
"For the last twenty five years, you have let Ma decided so many things for you. This time, I trust you to make your own decision, JieLun." She finally said, walking back to the living room where Jay is standing like a statue while leaning his back against the threshold.
"What if I make a wrong decision?" his tone sounds unconfident.
"Whatever decision you're making, right or wrong, there'll be something to lose, and something to win." She gave his son a reassuring pat on his shoulder, "Just remember that whatever decision you're making, Ma will be always supporting you."
"Thank you, Ma." Jay threw his arms around his mom, hiding her inside his embrace. "If there's something that makes me believe that God does exist, that would be due to the fact that I have the most awesome mom anyone in the whole world could ever wish for."
Touched, she had hugged her son back with all her strength. Thank You God, she says in her heart, for such a precious son.

What will be JieLun's decision, up until now, it's still a mystery to Madam Ye.
She wonders… does he really love Jo that much, which makes him unable to get over her during these four years, or was he just curious why she had left him, and that he's just seeking for an answer, an explanation, a reason of any kind?
Maybe some time away from her and Jo in Japan will get him all sobered up to figure out what he really feels, and what he really wants.
Right or wrong decision, it isn't her part to decide. Her part is to support her JieLun, no matter what happens.
"Ma,"
She turns her head toward the entrance door, where she thinks she just heard her son's gentle voice from.
"Wo Hui Lai Le (I'm Back)."
