Chapter 1
Family oriented
It was an early Monday morning & I lay still looking at the sun rising through my bedroom window, I heard commotion downstairs most probably my mother rushing lunches & on her way out to work, I sighed at the thought of my poor Mother working two jobs yet again, getting home late, working overtime for extra money & spending even less time with all of us just like the past year.
Will this be another year full of hardships for us? I fiddled with my duvet when I heard a light knock on my door.
“Yeah Mum… I’m awake, I’ll be out in 10” I said quietly, almost everyday since my Father left she woke me & made sure I was up to make sure things run smoothly after she left for work.
Her day job was at the biggest Law firm in the capital as a secretary & her night job was at some huge factory where she was the supervisor.
After showering & changing into my uniform I woke my siblings & made my way down to the kitchen just in time to see Mum off. “Good morning hon” she smiled briefly as she grabbed the car keys.
I smiled back and admired how beautiful she looked in the morning light “G’mornin Mum, so when will you be back? cause I can do dinner if you’re gonna be late tonight”
“I’ll probably be back around maybe 10.30ish tonight because my shift at Daechuk ends at 10.”
I lowered my head to hide my disappointment “Oh.. okay I’ll be back home around 5 after school to start dinner before I go to work”
She smiled again “You’re a gem honey, please please make sure Sohee actually goes to school, I don’t want to get another call from her teachers saying she’s not there & could you remind Jinwoon to take his permission slip for the Pusan trip?” she looked at her watch “Okay I’m off I’ll see you later, have a good day at school”
I sighed as she rushed out the front door “Yeah I will, bye! Have a good day at work.”Just as I finished cooking breakfast Sohee slumped down the stairs “Ohh morning unnie” she said looking around
“Yeah morning lazy brat” I replied biting into my toast.
“Mum’s gone huh.. she really rushes off too early these days.. maybe she has a boyfriend.” she smiled
I almost choked on my toast “You!, how do you think you got those new shoes huh? from the fresh air? You know she’s working, she barely has anymore time for us how could she have a boyfriend” Sohee laughed watching as a bit of food flew out of my mouth into my coffee.
“Yeah yeah I know, I’m only joking, don’t waste food over it hahaha” I pulled a face
“Ya Min Sohee don’t say unnecessary things.. just worry about getting your ass to school got it?”
“Yes ma’am Min Sohee shall get her ass to school today” she grinned
10 minutes later Jinwoon appeared “Yo Noona! have you seen a small white paper slip? I need to take it in today”
“You mean this?” I said holding a crumpled note between my fingers, he grabbed it out of my hands
“Yup this is it, thanks, I’ll see you two later” he said walking out the front door
“Woah woah woah.. wait, have breakfast first” I held on firmly to the back of his shirt.
“Ugh! I can grab something on the way! Lets go now” he whined “Besides I don’t want porridge and-“
I stuffed a piece of toast in his mouth, then we set off.
