Chapter 1

Hello Again.

"Eun Kyung, can you get your father and me a drink?" My mom put her hand gently on my arm, her eyes pleading me to do as she says.

She always does this when we come to dinner parties. I haven't been to one in ten years, but my mom has always sent me to get some drinks while she and my father talked amongst their friends. I have been in the US for the past ten years, studying my butt off, the last time I've been to one of these was when I was 8. Now I was back in Korea. Today is the 15th anniversary of my dad's hotel, Prince Palace. He had decided to throw this party at the hotel's ballroom. It is great to be back though, I can't lie about that, I've missed everybody; but it felt very different now that I'm ten years behind on everything that has happened to the people i used to live with ten years ago.

I picked up two smooth shining margarita cups full of-well, margarita. My parents smiled at me as I was approaching them and their friends. My father looked away and took a cup and continued on with his discussion about how he was planning on improving room service. My mother took hers and brushed a strand of loose hair behind my ear.

"My baby, you've grown up so much, I'm so sad that I wasn't able to see you grow for the past ten years. You're so beautiful now." Her eyes tenderly wash over my face that was getting hot.

"Umma, stop that!" I growled while clenching my teeth. My mom used to do that to me even before I had left, but back then I didn't know embarrassment like I do now. She bent down to fix the hem of my satin blue evening gown.

My Appa turned around as his friends went to sit at their table and looked at me, smiling again. The smile of a proud parent. My umma spotted her friends from a distance and gave me a squeeze on my shoulder before walking off to her catty friends.

"Kyungie, you still remember who your best friend was when you were born?" My father gave me a mischievous smile.

I laughed and punched him in the arm playfully. "Of course, it's you Appa!" I looked into his face and spotted the barely noticeable wrinkles near his eyes.

"Good, you still remember your old man huh?" My father laughed and gave me a noogie while giving me a big hug at the same time messing up some of my hair.

I stood up straight again and fixed my hair blindly and laughed. My father pointed in the direction near the door. "You remember your other best friend?"

I gazed into the direction of his finger and spotted the Cho's, who are all very close to my father. My father has told me many times that if it wasn't for them, we would be living in a small village tending crops; he was very grateful to them. In fact, they were very close; they even had a child a little before I was born.

Before I could think of anything to say, I was scurried to the other side of the room to his best friends.

"Oh my, look who came back from the states!" Mrs. Cho exclaimed looking at me fondly. "Good to see you again." She bent over and hugged me, like a mother.

"Why who's this beauty?" Mr. Cho chuckled and gave me a hug too.

"Great to see you again, Samchon, Komo." I smiled and tried to smile politely. I looked behind them to see if he was there. He, as in the Cho’s son, was my first ever best friend ever since I could remember. I haven't seen him in ten years, and I really want to see how he turned out.

"Eun Kyung?" a voice behind me so soft and smooth questioned. I wheeled around instantly just to find the person that I had longed to see all these years.

Cho Kyuhyun, tall, handsome, and brilliant, standing right there. I smiled at him wanting to jump into his arms and tell him how much I've missed him, but my legs were frozen. Something inside kept me from doing so for a few reasons. One was that I was a grown girl, practically a woman, and I could not do that in front of the parents. Another reason was because I wasn't sure how he'd react if I had suddenly jumped him like that-after all, it's been ten years.

The announcer walked up to the stage at that moment and cleared his throat. Everyone's undivided attention was now focused onto him.

"Would everyone take their seats at their assigned tables? It's time for the 5 course dinner that Mr. Choi has specially picked out for all of you, his guests."

All the attendees swiftly took their seats. The president table, which was used to seat the main guests, was empty as I approached it. I sat down to the seat that I could reach first and my father had taken the one on my right. My mother was about to sit on my left, but hesitated quickly and made Kyuhyun take the seat. I glanced up at him as he sat down. He looked at me curiously and smiled.

"What?" I blurted out and laughed as he started to snicker. This moment seemed as surreal as it started to flash me some good memories. As we were growing up, I used to ask 'what?' all the time whenever he stared at me. It became an inside joke, and even now it still is. I can't believe he still remembers.

Dinner has started and there were many conversations amongst everyone. My father & his best friend were a little red in the face from the wine. My mother and Mrs. Cho were laughing hard like there was no tomorrow. My childhood best friend and I were just picking at our food, saying nothing. Soup, appetizer, salad, main dinner, and the dessert have all been coming and going; everyone seemed to be having a good time-except for two, who are having an awkward time.

I excused myself and got up from the table walking out to one of the balconies that stretched out to the open starry sky. A breeze swept by as my foot reached the border to the outside and I shivered.

Three seconds later, I felt something warm cover my shoulders. I looked down and found a tuxedo jacket around me.

"Be careful, you'll catch a cold." A voice mentioned behind me. I looked over my shoulder and laughed.

"It's you again." I grinned and walked to the thick railing and rested my body against it.

Kyuhyun hopped up and sat onto the railing and steadied himself next to me. "So how have you been?" Finally a question from him.

"I've been alright; it feels like everything's changed since I was last here." I smelled the cool night air, it smelt of fresh pine.

"Yeah, things have changed here, so have you." He looked down and started to swing his feet.

"What do you mean?" The last thing I wanted was for him to say that I had changed for the worst.

"Well, for one, you've grown taller. For another, you don't look like the old you, you're gorgeous now." His eyes met mine and I quickly looked away.

I chortled as he said that. “Now? As in I wasn’t gorgeous back then?” He quickly shook his head and I snickered. "I’m just kidding! I know you're just saying that though." I grinned & licked my lips, tasting the cherry lip-gloss on my lips. "You've grown too, definitely more handsome." I smirked and turned around, then used my arms to lift myself to sit on the railing like Kyuhyun.

"No, you're just saying that." He laughed and looked at me. "So have you met anyone over there?"

Pretending to not know what he meant, I looked away into the ballroom, where everyone was having a good time. "Of course I have, there are people around everywhere, and I’ve made a lot of friends."

He sniffed. "You know what I mean; have you met anyone you've found interest in?"

"Um, Not really..." I looked at him to find his eyes and mine connect. His eyes narrowed and his stare seemed to make me want to look away. It was as if he was looking for some truth in my eye. I blinked and glared at him. "What?"

We both laughed.
