Blind II – Learn to Love

Blind II – Learn to Love

Junsu remembered the day he opened his eyes after he had high fever fifteen years ago...

“Umma... the world is so dark. Did you turn off the lights?”

Junsu kept on remember when his Umma told him the truth about his condition...

“Why it has to be me Umma. I don't want this.”

Junsu always remember the day he had to let go soccer.

“Mr. Yoo, I'll be transferring in other school. Thank you for your guidance before. I may not one of your team anymore, but I'll be cheering our team from afar.”

Junsu remembered how his parents' was so supportive over his disability and never treated him differently.

“Junsu-ya, do not forget to do the laundries and the house chores. And Junsu, please be careful.”

***
Yoochun wore to his best today hoping he could make a good first impression to Junsu's friends. Choose casual pink t-shirt with brown long pants, he thought he looked handsomely irresistible.

“Shame that Junsu cannot see how lucky he is.” said Yoochun to himself and smiling evilly. Look over his arrogant smiling face through mirror, he felt ashamed to himself. He shook his again and again and nearly slapping himself for being so stupid.

Checked over his watch, it was the time that his taxi would come and so he made himself prepared in front of his house. As the taxi arrived, he jumped into it and drove away to Junsu house. Yoochun felt so happy until he remembered that Junsu still living with his parents'. The silly smile on his face disappeared. Desperately his mind spinning to think about what he should he did when he met with Junsu's parents' for the first time.

As he arrived to the address given by Junsu, Yoochun could see that Junsu and both of his parents' standing in front of a house. Took a deep breath, and when the taxi stopped, he carefully step out from the car and greet all the three of them.

“Good morning. I'm Park Yoochun and it is nice to meet both of you for the first time.” Yoochun bowed deeply and prayed inside that he made a good impression. Mr Kim held out his hand and Yoochun quickly grabbed that hand into a gripped shake. Mrs. Kim hugged his son before letting him go inside the cab and spoke to Yoochun with a sweet smile upon her face.

“Please take care of him.”

“I will.” Yoochun voice was so shaking as he was so nervous but Mrs. Kim can felt the sincerity of those words so she just nodded to Yoochun. Yoochun bowed again before get in the cab. As the cab drove away Yoochun battled with himself whether he should asked Junsu about his parents’ impression on him. After a while, he realized that he really wanted to know.

“Did your Umma asked you why is it you going out with a man instead of a woman?” Yoochun was timidly asking to Junsu.

“Of course she did.” Junsu smiled and looked over his right side.

“So? Did she mad at you? She didn't look pissed off though, but...”

“I told her my reason and she accepted it. So end of story.”

“What did you...”

“We here!” the cab driver suddenly cut off Yoochun question and stopped at the side of a buiding.

***
“Everyone, this is Yoochun and he is accompanying me for today.” Said Junsu proudly as he introduce Yoochun too his friends. As Junsu talked, the woman called Geum who worked in the association performed a sign language.

Both of them now sat in a circle of ten people and Yoochun and Geum-sshi was the only ‘normal’ person there. All of them have different types of disability.

“… and so that’s happen to me for this month. I met Yoochun on train.” Junsu kept on smiling and on that time Yoochun felt proud as Junsu told his friends about him when they were asked to tell what the important things happen to them for a month.

“He looks so handsome.” Said the girl who Yoochun think, she has a mental problem. Yoochun bowed a little to her.

“But he wears a pink shirt. Pink for girls.” Yoochun heard Geum-sshi said. Yoochun looked questioningly at her before she point out that she just translating from the man at opposite him.

“I'm saying on behalf of Changmin.” Geum-sshi stated as she point out one very handsome deaf man. That man looked somehow pissed off on Yoochun and started to perform sign language and Geum-sshi keep on translating on behalf of him.

“I wonder why men nowadays like to look like a girl when they supposed to be dressing like a man.” Geum-sshi looked uncomfortable when she translating Changmin's comment on Yoochun. Suddenly random comments flew everywhere and a lot of voices including Geum-sshi which Yoochun will never knew whose comments that she has been translating.

“He wears pink? Honestly?” The other blind man spoke out.

“I think pink suits him.” the girl before still on Yoochun’s side.

“Not for me. He looks like a bird for me.” This time Geum-sshi translating from the oldest man among them.

“His hair is so long and messy. Junsu, what is his job?” another comment.

“Why can’t he have the same hair like we do?” and another comment.

“He’s weird.”

“He still looks fine to me. Junsu-ya, I’m jealous.” This time, that girl looked so red and hid her face with her palms while her head kept on tilting. Yoochun could tell that it was a normal gesture by that girl.

Comments by comments came through Yoochun’s ears and he cannot help but to feel annoyed by all these ‘people’.

“I don’t think what I wear is ‘girlish’. This is fashion.” Yoochun defended himself.

Changmin still doing his hand language while looked annoyed at Yoochun. His acting somehow makes Yoochun wonder if it was anything to do with Junsu. Especially when he kept on giving him 'the look' ever since he arrived with Junsu. Yoochun look over Geum-sshi and waiting for her words. She looked so reluctant but as Yoochun somehow gave her a dark looked, she spoke slowly.

“He said that you are lucky because Junsu can't see you in your ridiculous clothes.”

Then it was when Yoochun saying something he shouldn't said... AT ALL.

“What?! At least I’m not like you. Especially when you can see Junsu, but cannot hear Junsu's sweet voice. What a pity.” He panting after he said those harsh words. The surrounding was so quite suddenly. It was when Yoochun looked at Geum-sshi's hurt face then Yoochun clamped his hand over his mouth. He quickly looked at Junsu. Junsu still sat silently on his chair. Yoochun cannot read any reactions from Junsu. Did he listen to what Yoochun just said? Of course he did! He's not deaf. Somehow Yoochun hope that Junsu was a deaf rather than a blind.

Somehow Yoochun felt trapped in that circle. He trapped and he didn’t know where he should escape. He looked over Miss Geum and she looked mad at him. She looked hurt eventhough she exactly not like ‘anyone’ Yoochun mention before. Yoochun looked at Changmin who waited for Geum-sshi to tell him what just Yoochun said, but the reaction from Geum-sshi answered his question already.

“I’m sorry… I should not…” Yoochun tried to ask for forgiveness before Junsu cut him into another question.

“Tell me what do you like to do during your spare time?” Junsu asked suddenly.

“Junsu-ya, how long have you met him?” Geum-sshi suddenly stood up and walked to Junsu.

“A week.”

“Follow me. We need to talk about this.”

“I just asked Yoochun a question and I want an answer. Geum-sshi, can you wait for a while?”

“It seems that you know nothing about this man. If not, you don’t have to ask anything from him.”

“Well it’s never too late to ask.”

“Junsu! I’m your trainer so I’m responsible for anything that…”

“He might be the one. Remember about the sign? I want to try. Give him time.” Junsu desperately said to Geum-sshi.

“What sign?” Asked Yoochun suddenly even though he was scared with the sudden situation.

“The sign of existence. Yoochun is the sign… Yoochun is the sign…” The girl before muttered the words again and again by herself.

That place was so quiet for a while. The only voice that was heard was the same girl keep on saying the same thing all over again.

“I like to watch movies.” Yoochun answered the question to break off the silent moment.

“I like music, because I can’t really ‘watch’ movies. So I tend to lean on music.” Junsu snapped back at Yoochun. And for that, Yoochun felt his knees were given out.

The lesson that Yoochun learned today... was not a good realization.

First; be friend with Junsu's friends wasn't as easy as he thought...

Second; Junsu like music... but he like movies.

Was that mean that he has to learn everything?

***
It was the end of that day and everyone walked to the main hall of the building for dinner. Since what happen before, Yoochun and Junsu somehow lost of words. They did not talk like usual and Yoochun did not know how to come out with conversation. As all of people darted towards the hall, Junsu softly gripped Yoochun’s shirt.

“Yoochun-sshi, I want to go home now.”

“O...Ok. I’ll call a taxi.”

“No… Let’s take a train.”

***
The cold air was still all over them when they were in the train. There was no single words came from each other and Yoochun felt sick of it. Was Junsu angry about Changmin? Surely Junsu understands what happened, but he can't say it was Yoochun's fault. After all, it was Changmin who provoked Yoochun first.

Or maybe... Junsu thought that both of them were so different. Yoochun was a guy who loves to 'see' everything while Junsu can only hear. Well, truthfully, it was Yoochun who on that time gave a second thought about them.

“Ahhh....” Junsu suddenly let out something and he clapped his hand and Yoochun quickly looked at him questioningly.

“What it is Junsu-sshi.” Yoochun asked.

“Now I know how.”

“About what?”

“About how to watch a movie with you. In two days there will be an assembly held for us. I'm one of the representatives. I could ask about giving out something for disability people to watch movies. Hmm... Let me think what I should request to government.” Junsu enthusiastically explain and now he was back to his silent mode as he was too deep with his thought.

“Is that why you did not say anything at all?” asked Yoochun but Junsu ignored him.

“When I was learning to understand situation, Geum-sshi give me an audiotape and electronic-formatted Braille. I guess I could request for braille notes for the blinds. In that way, I could understand not only by listening but also the detailed situation. Yes! That what I should do! If the request approve, then we can watch movies together.” Junsu said and he smiled. For some reasons, Yoochun had tears in his eyes.

“I... I'm...” Yoochun fought very hard not to cry foolishly in front of Junsu.

“You don't want to watch movies with me? I'm sorry I couldn't...” Junsu quickly apologize but he stopped as he felt strong arms around him, hugged him tight.

“Thank you. I’ve been so stupid as I keep on thinking about whether we should be together when I just said something so rude to your friend. But you... You keep on finding the way and how to make us work.” Yoochun tighten his arms around Junsu and hide his face on Junsu's shoulder.

“Yoochun-sshi, do you ashamed about me being blind?” asked Junsu honestly. And with honesty, Yoochun said that it was never his mistake when he asked Junsu to go out with him.

“That’s the only thing that I’m afraid of. About you are ashamed of me. I don’t want that.”

“No… never.”

“I’m glad. So would you pray for me?”

“Pray?”

“For the petition of course! I told you that there will be an assembly. I want to make a request for the ‘people’ like me.” Junsu acted like he was mad but his pouted lips made Yoochun smiled.

“Of course I’ll pray! I hope everything goes well and we can watch movies together. By the way, Junsu-sshi… thanks for everything.”

And with that… Yoochun slowly took hold Junsu’s hand. Just like he always dream of.

“Yoochun-sshi, tell me. What do you see now on this train?” Junsu gripped Yoochun’s finger tightly on his.

“Here? Now? Hmm... there's a man reading a novel.’Touch Me, I'm Sick'” Yoochun read the title on the cover of that book.

“Oo... the title sound so scary.”

“I don't know. The way that man read it, it doesn't sound scary. He kept on laughing everytime.” Yoochun explained.

“OK... don't judge a book by its cover. Yoochun-sshi, tell me more. You like to see people in a train. Share with me!” Junsu kept on smiling while shaking their connected hands.

“No problem. I'll share the world with if I have too.” Yoochun honestly said.

“Yoochun-sshi. You make me blush.”

“And I like it when you blushed over me. OK, there a boy who is helping his Umma holding a groceries bag. He looked angry though.”

“Does his Umma now persuading him by telling him that she'll buy something to him afterwards? My Umma always like that.”

“She did better. She told him that helping Umma will place him in Heaven one day.”

“Hehe... that's totally true.”

“Ooo... and there's also a couple playing 'rock scissor paper'. They look very happy. Laughing loudly and ignoring people around them. The old man beside them look very disturb.”

“Haha... I want to know about the couple.”

“They are still playing. I don't know who's gonna... woah.” Yoochun commentary suddenly interrupted as the couple end up by kissing each other.

“What? What? Tell me. Who's winning?”

“I'm not sure. But... maybe the boy win.”

“You not sure? But maybe the boy wins? Why?”

“The girl well... kind of pulling his boyfriend for a kiss. Maybe that's what they bet of.”

“Ah... so they are kissing now?

“Yes.”

“Ahhh...” Junsu looked awfully hopeful for something he can never requested. Yoochun blushed when he was trying to find the meaning of that disappointed face.

“Junsu-sshi, suddenly I remember our conversation this morning. About you were telling a reason to your Umma about dating a man not a woman. Well, you not answered my question yet. What did you tell your Umma?”

“Ah... It was nothing.” Junsu shook his head.

“Tell me. Share with me. Please.”

“Nah… I just told her that I'm blind. Even I could distinguish a man and a woman, but I can't actually see them. I mean I cannot really 'see' them with my own eyes. I do not know what and who I can call as a beauty. Beauty is something not important to me.” explained Junsu.

“So?”

“So… I see a person through my heart. And my heart told me that it's your heart that I belong too. Ah... This is embarrassing” Junsu tried to hide his face to the other side. Yoochun can felt the heat from Junsu's face and his warm heart. At that time, there nothing Yoochun can really felt. Nothing other than LOVE.

“Junsu-sshi. There's something on your hair. Please let me fix it.” Told Yoochun and he let go of Junsu’s hand.

“My hair? What is it?” Junsu quickly turned his face to Yoochun and his hand rubbing his hair questioningly. Yoochun took both of his palms on each side of Junsu before closing the gap until their nose touched.

“Try not to make any sound.” Yoochun simply said.

“What...” Junsu words failed as his lips suddenly covered by something soft, something he never used to. And he loves it. And so he tried very hard not to make any sound. Deep inside, he hoping that he became a deaf too. At least for a while so he did not have to hear what the people would say like he always do.

Yoochun never thought that he just done something more than just holding hand. But he can’t resist when Junsu was so lovable. Especially when he just knew that main lesson that he learned today...

JUNSU ALWAYS LEARN HOW TO LOVE HIM.
